My new motto; Nothing worth saying takes less than a giant wall of (kinda)structured text! :D |
If you do not want to reply, than don`'t, i fully respect that:) I COULD try to install this game and find out on my own whats so special about DARKFALL, but i simply lack the time and wilfullness to do so,... downloading, installing, creating an account, costomizing options, creating a character and playing maybe for days or even weeks to find out what is so great about darkfall. So i am asking here to fellow gamers. I HEARD SO MUCH HYPE ABOUT THIS GAME, and i hear this games name on online sites quite often as randomly. So please, do tell me, WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT DARKFALL? `Why the hype? Why does it seem to be so well known? PS!! Ofcourse* i looked at the home page of the game to find out about it, but to me it just sounded like your average mmorpg.-....... Coz it feels like this game is either the holy grail of gaming, OR its the worst game to exist in the history of mankind... like its on the extremes of one side of the other,,,, Thank you.

It's the only game that is currently released that has free for all PvP, full loot, and a first person view. Mortal Online promises to bring the same stuff in a better package. |

Simple. The game was in development for 8 years. During that type the devs made it sound like the holy grail of mmorpgs and continuously lied about it being "Feature-Complete" and ready to go while continuously prolonging the beta phases. The game claims to be a sandbox but apparently it's just a war game, which the devs have recently said themselves. If you're really into a fantasy setting and pvp on a large scale then Darkfall might be worth looking into for you. For a lot of people it turned out to be a disappointment, though. With 8 years of development time the hype is bound to grow to huge proportions. Most reviews put darkfall in the 4/10 range, but like any game its worth trying out for yourself. For some people it's really the best game out there while others think it's garbage. Pros: Large, open world Cons: Severely lacking in content (mainly PvE content is absent) Unfortunately you can't take advantage of any free trial because one isn't offered. The only way to play is to dish out the $50 or so and give it a try for your free month. |

While there was a lot of hype for the game a few months ago.Right now I don't think there is much hype. Here it is more of a side game for people to make fun of Aventurine and how they are handling the game. Also the game does have some die hard fans who try to support Darkfall, but for th emost part don't do so well. Just read the forums to see what is special. Maybe some time in the future the game maybe in a position to start the hype again. |

Game had some nice ideas but overall it is failure. I would suggest not buy as it will probably will be waste of money. Good points: If you like Open world pvp, full loot, maybe sieges. Bad points: Everything else sucks.
I tried it and got worst feeling for years, it feels just so crude and unpolished. It is like buying car and not driving it (because it is broken) but pushing it to wherever you go. Or something like that. |

DFO is about player politics (simlar to EvE), Full Loot true FFA PvP centirc MMORPG. While people will say that the game lacks in a lot of areas it devliers in others. Main problems right now is that PvE doesn't yeild enough reward for the time and items invested, the grind is steep, and AoE magic removes twitch skill from the equation. Main postive of the game is that it has working sieges, supports large battles (yes it does now), and even though people will disagree actual player skill such as tactics, strat, and twitch is very important to winning in this game. The patch, which is said to be huge, is suppose address the main problems with the game. If you are going to compare this game to MO IMO MO = PvE centric with Lite-PvP (not truly FFA) and focuses on small scale PvP due to sieges being removed from launch DFO = PvP centric with lite PvE with a foucs on large scale warfare and politics.
For some information about the game both fan and "hater" check out Bannerfall DFO's first full newspaper with in game news, reviews, game update talks, etc
Edit: I notice someone said skills only matter every 25 levels. That hasn't been true for several patches now, about a month.

I wouldn't even classify it as an mmorpg, but an Online FPS, deathmatch! A free for all envireonment to run around with a bunch of other slaptards and just mindless attack other people. Some like to extend that boredom to the message baords and stir up anger, by talking highschool smack to each other... which Xphiher has mistakenly took as "politics"... lol. Darkfall is a childs game for beginner FPS players, who need to learn the ropes of circle-straffing and knife fighting. It provides large groups of people who are also learning how to play video games, thus safety in numbers (ie:Zergs) is the best way for newbies who don't know anything to feel comfortable and safe. While still learning to play a FPS games. If you've played Battlefield2 or 2142, there is no reason to step down into a Fisher Price FPS game like Darkfall.

There is absolutely no need to listen to xpiher as his arguments are biased and uneducated as usual. He is a well known DF fanboy who constantly ignores the HUGE issues this game has and makes a gold nugget out of every turd. MO is NOT a PVE centric game you shill...do your fucking homework and read lol seriously. MO is a FFA PVP SANDBOX similar to good old classic UO. STOP spining facts to fit them into your own agenda. Also stating that DF is more PVP centric then MO is like a frikken joke because the PVE in DF simply sucks donkey balls and is either barely existant or a source for constant exploitation. Nice attempt to turn something positive on MOs side into something negative. In short: DF is a half-assed attempt to create a sandbox with Full Loot PVP. Sadly it turned out to be a naked gank-fest with horrible to no balance full of cheaters. Sandbox features are basically not existent. Crafting is horrible and useless. Imagine Quake Arena with some small RPG elements...therefore it does not deserve the term sandbox. ALSO sieges ARE NOT removed from MO launch as THEY WERE NEVER PLANED TO BE IN ON RELEASE. Housing WILL be in when MO releases and your house will already have hitpoints so the housing mechanics are already prepared for sieges. The MO devs show much more professionalism and want to implement a working system rather than the joke you will find in DF which was obviously pressed into the release with not much brains. Xpiher obviously believes that all what matters in a sandbox FFA PVP game are sieges..which is so wrong that i do not even find words for it. Sieges in DF are nothing more than ZERG VS. ZERG and therefore also DO NOT deserve the right to call themselves "sieges". A true sandbox MMO offers much much more than just simple hack&slay PVP. And what does "not-truly" FFA means in the case of MO?? Do you even have the SLIGHTEST idea how MO works and that it is even much more FFA and PVP-centric than the joke you play? Again another attempt in twisting facts.
So i hereby correct Xpihers pathetic attempt to lure people into the game under false facts. MO = FFA PVP-centric game with full loot/no safe-zones and all the typical sandbox features following on the basics of pre-trammel UO. (Housing, advanced in-depth crafting, local banking, seamless world, exploration etc.) It includes also huge amounts of PVE content to fit all playstyles as you would expect from a sandbox. DF = FFA PVP-centric hack&slay game with full loot and safe zones (guard towers). Sandbox features are barely existent. (no housing, barely useful crafting system, universal banking, etc.) PVE is horrible and totally unbalanced and basically useless. Also mentioning EVE in correspondence to DF is a blasphemy that smells to the high heavens and every EVE fan will punch you in the face for such an assumption. EVE is LIGHTYEARS away in every aspect from DF! I would highly recommend to you to get an EVE trial so you maybe can learn how a sandbox works.
To the OP do not buy DF in its current state as you will be very very disappointed and once again do not listen to Xpiher as he will still try to sell this game to people long after it is gone. Also his propaganda newspaper reeks of bias even after the introduction of "critics" so no need to get brainwashed there. Besides all that Aventurine is a very shady company which double bills customers, ninja edits game faqs to fit them to their own incompetence and runs a heavily biased forum which silences every serious suggestion to game improvement while obvious pro-troll posts get bumped for weeks. |

Darkfall is so bad even the lame pk guilds like Murderherd and Bad Boys For Life are bailing on it. When guiilds like that bail for another game taht isn't even in open beta yet, youknow Darkfall has got to suck. Or you could play it for a month like I did to realize first hand how much it sucks. |

Darkfall was intended to be a return to a sandbox MMO game, similar in many respects to UO, with aspects of shadowbane, eve and others mixed in. Ultimately it was designed around the clan vs clan warfare mechanic as its basis for the game. The game uses a 3rd/1st person FPS style combat system, which is really not in depth at all. however, it works for the MMO genre really well in alot of respects, and is something relatively new and different from every MMO out there. Ultimately while the design is not bad, the implimentation of the design is very poorly done, with many flawed or fatally flawed elements which tend to drive away a large portion of its potential playerbase. Darkfall by no means is a commecial success, and probably never will be. it might make money if it can survive for another year or two, but in reality its going to fail most likely, or go to an F2P /item mall system to generate revenue to continue to exist. Its potential market share is very small due to its ffa anything goes design, and it tends to attract a higher percentage of undesirable players who ultimately will cause the game to self destruct, or cause other players to leave. For myself, i found elements of the game to be great, most especially the PVP, clan vs clan aspects. What ultimately turned me off though, is that the underlying game mechanics were complete failures, or just frankly tedious boring and did not create a game that was fun enough to play. The game is a skill based game, in which charecter development is a must if you want to be successful long term. This is not a bad thing, but the implimentation is very poorly done, with almost every aspect of charecter development, crafting, harvesting, pve being a mind numbing grind. its not that the grind is bad, its that its presented in the most tedious boring way possible, and each element is a seperate grind. you have to harvest 1 resource at a time, once every 10 seconds, you have to craft items 1 at a time every 20 seconds. you have to use active skills hundreds of times, one at a time to gain skill. This has led to a situation in which the majority of the playerbase macros 24/7 or as much as possible, and only stops to play the game once in awile, so you stay logged in 24 hours a day, and mabye play 2 hours or 3 hours a day, while the rest of your time is spent botting/macroing to persue skill gains. Given that there is no skill cap, and no decay, the game quickly devolves into running on a hamster wheel in an attempt to keep power curves relative to other players, rather then actively fighting other players. Again poor game mechanics, create this system and frankly there are no checks and balances at all to keep a competitive system in place. as an example,if you gain a whirlwind skill in mutiple weapon types, you can use whirlwind with each weapon type, swap weapons and use it again. While each weapon has a cooldown, there is no global cooldown. Pretty much this basic failure on the game designers part, means that players will gain as many skills/spells/abilities as possible to spam them en masse. Ultimately the game suffers from a serious lack of basic RTS concepts , and a unending vertical progression curve, in which the power rating of individual players is never capped, until you have gained every skill/spell in the game at this time. This ultimately will eliminate 95% of the playerbase from serious competition, leaving only a minority who will tolerate, or abuse the system in order to be at the top of the power curve and gain significant advantages over eveyone else. The lack of competitive balance, slipperly slope mechanics ultimately will be the death of this game.

Your house is a safe zone. Yes thats right, if someone doens't have your key you can go in your house and be safe. The house cann't be destoryed. Also all newbie towns will have Guards. If you think guard towers in DFO are safe zones then you MO will have safe zones as well. Furthermore, if you kill your own race you get punished for doing so. To me that is FFA PvP-lit

Which means it lite FFA PvP. Sorry, punishing people for the occasional PK, in this case killing someone of the same race, is lite PvP and forces RP. I hope they put some control that prevents one of the races from gaining the intial player advantage, or at least not punish people so serverally from joining a ARAC clan .... oh wait there aren't sieges, at launch, so it really wont matter. All an alignment system should do is discourage newbie PKing and nothing more. The system MO is using will force people to adhere to the RP ruleset.

ROFL again..uneducated guesses. Do you even know how the flagging system works in MO? You do not get "automatically" punished for PKing...that`s hilarious hahaha. There are things like murder tokens. Also the system DOES NOT punish "occasional pvp"..you do not turn red after just killing someone (murder tokens? your own flag? etc.). I would highly suggest you read the flagging pdf because you make a fool out of yourself. You don`t have a single clue about the mechanics..
The guards you talk about also will not help you automatically...you actually have to call for them and their help depends on their security level. Also there won`t be guards on every corner in every city....so if you are a half-brained monkey you should be able to kill your target anytime. The ONLY safety in place is a 20 hour grace period for new characters to protect noobs.
And where the hell do you pull this crap that you get punished for killing members of your own race?? You just pull it out of your behind because such a thing was NEVER stated! Do you know that there is a blood mix system?? That you can mix two or more races on character creation?? Explain to me please how you punish such a thing when there are no clearly defined races. You are also in no way punished if you play a "pure blood" race. Races will be purely aesthetic and provide different stats possibly. Again you have no clue whatsoever. THERE IS NO PUNISHEMENT FOR KILLING A MEMBER OF YOUR OWN RACE. You can be punished by receiving a murder token from the player you killed (This also depends on how the killed player was flagged too in any case. READ.). This token can be applied to you BY ANY RACE no matter if it is pure blood or bloodmix. It is in fact a very complex system with multiple flagging options. read the damn pdf seriously...i will not explain it to you as there are so many different possibilities. The system works VERY similar to UO pre-trammel..if you played it back in the days you would damn well know the basics and would stop bringing up such lame uneducated arguments.
Oh and safe zones...did you ever play SWG pre-CU/NGE? Did you ever got you butt camped in your "safe zone house"? I tell you something about "house safety". You are inside and safe...but you are also locked out from doing ANYTHING. Being "camped" might seem safe to you but it SUCKS so yeah cool safe zone. Also nobody is standing around in front of his house all day in fear of getting PKed so good luck getting there in time. Please don`t compare WTFPWN zaptowers to housing..it is pathetic.
There are also no "RP rulsets". WTF are you talking about seriously...your whole post is pulled from the air and it is very thin air! You call a game that tries to achieve some depth with a decent background and basic rules as "PVP-lite"...lol dude yeah whatever floats your boat. What you want is a game loaded with anarchy and mindless zergs...UT4 is over there welp... Saying that small scale pvp is "lite" is such a joke i can not believe it. Small scale pvp actually ask for much much more skill than your cool zerg "sieges". What you define as sieges are mana missile spamfests. There is nothing "siege-like" involved LOL. And yeah i would rather have the devs watch the game some months to develop a good siege system that works well. But i guess you prefer a half-assed concept some bored guy wrote up while eating burgers at McDonalds.
Honestly if you want to be taken seriously please get your facts straight. I am done arguing with you because you are pretty much a shill like seanmcwhatever throwing around some random fantasy arguments and twisting information in some hopeless struggle to make DF look good. NOBODY who ever played a working and balanced sandbox MMO will play this catpoop. All you got are the L33T kids who will throw insults at each other and form naked gank squads to PWN! wooot! The only good thing for you about DF is that it attracts only the biggest tards and the uninformed. I guess everybody is pretty happy that all the uber-roXxor-h4rdcor3 morons are gone mostly and sucked up in DF. I know i am. Have fun in your kitty litterbox! P.S.: funny that you pretty much ignored the whole content of my previous post circumventing almost all the arguments i brought up like the fact there is not even housing in DF yet you discuss its "safety" and use in MO...LOL..ignorance is a great thing man keep it up!

Species ! = race. There are suppose to be 9 races and each race has about 4 sub-species. The blood system only works with the species that belong to that race. You can't mix different races blood together. You kill a member of your own race you get a "murder token." Murder tokens only go away with time. You defend yourself after getting a "token" and kill the "blue" player you get another murder token. You can't work off the murder tokens, they go away with time like UO. The RP "ruleset" that I was talking about was based on the fact that you don't get punished for fighting an enemy race, like DFO, but you get more surveraly punished in MO than you do in DFO for attacking same race players. Apparently you don't know enough about MO either if you didn't even know there were defined races. I ingored your other post because all you did was attack the game and call it notthing but zerg v zerg and is just e-pee stroking. You know nothing of politics in DFO and must just watch TM propganda.

I'll tell you what this game is all about. You log in and you get a quest to kill some goblins. So you head to where the goblins are and find out that there are about 50 other people waiting for those goblins. Once you see a goblin spawn and try to attack it, those 50 people will attack you and the goblin. After getting wtfpwnt for 4 hours while trying to complete the quest, you realize that those 50 people have the right idea, and join their ranks. You may, at some point join a guild, which will teach you how to exploit game mechanics and how to wtfpwn newbs better. Then, you may go on a city raid, or your city will get raided. That's basically it. Oh yea, then the server will shut down without any warning.
