A true Blindness spell. Where when cast on you either makes your screen completely black or distorts your screen to the point you can't see whats going on.

Well one thing I have wanted for a while to see is an actual blindness spell. I mean instead of it effecting your chars hit/miss ratio it actual distorts whats on your screen either by making it completely black for awhile or blur's your vision bad enough you can't really see whats going on. Sound would be your only friend.

The problem is with every MMORPG that has come along this wouldn't have been that effective with auto attack and target and the likes. But with the mechanics this would actually be feasible and I think it would actually make Blind a awsome spell lol.

I mean imagine it, suddenly your blinded. You can't see whats going on. You hear footsteps coming towards you rapidly. You run in a frantic attempt to escape. Unable to discern what direction you are heading, where your attacker is, whats in front of you.... nothing. lol would be funny if you even managed to fall off a cliff lol.

What say you?

What do you think about a True Blindness spell

I like the idea
I don't like the idea
I don't care

Yeah I know it has been in FPS games via flash grenades etc. Hasn't been a true Blindness spell in an MMO that I know of though. DFO I believe is one of the first MMORPG's that could probably pull it off.

EQ flash of light was true blind spell you get hit with that and the screen goes black i think they nerfed it like most of the cool spells in that game cause people cryed that they hated losing control of there character.. so big deal if darkfall adds this i hope they have a charm spell like the old days of EQ and you can make people run in lava and die!

This topic reminds me of some very fun pvp times i had while playing Neverwinter Nights.  All my buddies were playing and dueling each other was just a blast.  There was this spell called Darkness and it was an aoe type spell where when cast, a fairly large area would turn black.  And anyone in the area of the spell could not see themselves nor anything else.  Only the caster could see himself n other players.  Whomever casted the spell could see the outlined shape of other players in the area.  Of course there is a counter to the spell, i forget what its called but it would let u see in the darkness just like the caster could.  Anyways, i thought i'd share that with you all.  I like that concept as a blindess spell, tho in nwns, they also had a blindness spell that gave like -2 to atk or somin..  d&d stuff.

Too bad all this MMO business has caught on.  i.e. world of dookiecraft   NWNs2 might have had a better development community.

in Morrowind if you get the Boots of Blinding Speed your screen would black out unless you have magic resistance. The spell was available but didn't have 100% blind effect. It was an useless spell from the Ilussion school. In a MMO would be interesting.

Have you ever played the original Everquest? If a mob or player blinded you, your entire computer screen turned white until it ended or was nullified by another player. Not only that, but the Original EQ had some of the coolest "illusionary" spells ever implemented in a game. If a mob mezzed you, you had absolutely no control over your character and he forced you to fight for him. Levitation was also always fun to do. There was nothing better than journeying through dreadlands/overthere, etc  scaling over mountains to reach your destination.  Invisibility was also very cool to cast. EQ's Invis was the real deal. You couldn't see any shadow, or blurred white image, nothing. It was pretty awesome! If someone didn't have see invisible up, you could literally walk up to people without them knowing you were ever there. Also certain mobs would b e invisible and b y the time you realized they were there, you were either mezzed, stunned, sleeping, or dying, lol.

Also, I how chanters could literally turn into objects like mugs and all sorts of things. Druids could turn into trees.. One thing I loved to do was turn my druid into a tree while outside of Blackburrow. The newbs would run up to the cave, then stop and examine the tree in front of BB.. Some would even shout OOC asking if there was a bug or glitch near bb because they see a tree blocking it's entrance, ROFL!!!

Last but not least, I loved how EQ's night vision worked more than any other game. Infravision, ultravision, serpent vision, aqua vision, etc was definitely needed while traveling at night. I remember I played a Human Druid and it was literally a nightmare playing the game at night,,,well until i hit level 24 and was able to turn into a wolf. :P

Boy, those were the good ol days!  MMO's today have been so dumbed down and alot of the fun stuff has been taken out so that younger, more simple minded kids who all came from games like CS could enjoy them...

Vanguard tried to bring back the good old days of EQ, but SOE forced Sigil to release the game at 60% complete due to money problems.. SOE hoped people wolud ignore how incomplete the game was and deal with it until sigil fixed everything within a few months. But one thing they didn't think would be a major problem was the overall performance issue that really plagued the game and forced ppl to quit.   Anyway, I'd love to see another MMO come out that features at least  80% of the insanely awesome stuff the original EQ had. Then add to it by putting in a very complex, yet exciting pvp system and you have yourself a definite WoW killer...  But guess I'll keep dreaming, lol

Sounds like fun, I only played EQ for a month before me and my friends went to FFXI.  Wish I would have gotten to play the game longer than that.   I would have loved blocking stuff as a tree, I would have spent tons of time doing that.lol

I think it's a great idea but I don't think it's easy to make it completely black because some people might think that there computer is getting stuck. Maube the spell can let your screen shake or flash it on and out.

This is in the game already hehe.

It's listed under a spell list somewhere, but personally i've had mobs cast it on me.  It turns your entire screen bright white, unable to see anything, and fades after 5-6 seconds.  It was a projectile missle that hit near me, and exploded splash 'blindess' onto me, so it could hit big groups of people.

A spell similar to the breath of some Beasts in Savage II.

I would like to see that. It could be very effective in games like wow, simply by making the player loses his target.

Confusion, takes GM 100 before you can buy it and you can see it in action in my vid at 3:44 click it's the white spell on the right of the screen. It hits a distance off and you see a flash, the intensity depends on proximity. If close by it blinds me for about 5-10 seconds, I call them flash bangs as they remind me of those in Battlefield.

Get hit with confusion by someone who has 100 skill in it and you will be blind with a totally white screen for 15-20 seconds. This can also be stacked by other peoples confusions.

NEWS FLASH! A bank was robbed the other day and a man opened fire on the customers being held hostage. One customer zig-zag sprinted until he found cover. When questioned later he explained that he was a hardcore Darkfall Online player and knew just what to do.
