That's great. They have a fixed camera where you can't see shit and don't want to make it adjustable at all, so somehow this is now a good thing. Yep. I can see just a tad bit of bias in this review. {insert sarcasm} Next this reviewer will tell us all that the game freezing up and crashing your PC is a good thing, because it means that every player has an even chance of standing there letting a player get revenge on his avatar who is stuck standing there helpless in the game while his previous victims come up and attack and kill him freely. {sighs} Sounds like a sales pitch of an unfinished, broken game to me. But yes, I am happy as hell this review isn't biased at all or anything! lmao.

And once again ( as usual ) there are no mobs other than goblins. This was a waste. |

Call me as you wish. But just stop and think for a minute here. A "fixed" camera that cannot be adjusted. How fantastic will this work? First we have to assume that we actually ever play this game. So here we are with the camera fixed in a position that shows us an angle that works fine and shows what we want to see right in front of us. Cool. Then we start to move and move up or down a slope. Now imagine this un-adjustable camera in its fixed position either showing us the sky or the ground and we cannot adjust it to see anything. Not anything behind us, nor anything in front of us. Truly advanced alright. Sounds like great fun, I can hardly wait to play now! - Zaxx

Originally posted by zaxtor99 I think you have misunderstood. You can aim up and down (as mentioned in the article), but you can't spin the camera around and look behind as your running forward. I imagine it will play very similar to a FPS, but the camera will be just behind your head instead of inside your eyeballs. |

How I believe it'll work is it'll tilt with your character's head movement...I could be wrong and it's stuck in the air...But whatever, I'll leave my judgment until I try the beta... And of course, your well thought out reply will include something like, "given a beta ever does happen" Well, no shit. But it's always good to keep a level head, and a slightly optimistic outlook. Otherwise people tend to post pessimistic, close-minded viewpoints on forums where no one really cares. ....And no one wants that. ------------------------------- |

Originally posted by zaxtor99 1) Gianna's comments seemed pretty fair, actually. You're putting words in her mouth, especially the words "good" and "advanced", neither of which appeared in Part 2. 2) She expressed concen about how much of the surroundings once can see, especially for tall characters fighting shorter opponents. Likewise, she expressed concern that shorter races may have an advantage when fighting taller opponents. 3) There appears to be a veritcal camera axis. How else would you be able to aim up or down? As such, your concerns about the view while running up a hill seem unfounded. That being said, I, too, would like to know how they address this issue. Is it as simple as adjusting the camera automatically to changes in the terrain? Some games do this today. Here are some pertinent quotes:
In 3rd person view the camera is pretty close to your character and it’s fixed, so you can’t mousewheel back until your character is tiny and you can see for twenty yards behind you. Your chance to spot other people is to actually turn and look. Period.

Originally posted by zaxtor99 The camera is fixed behind your character. Moves with the mouse cursor to where you're aiming, higher, lower, left and right. You are unable to move it seperately except when resting because it would give an advantage to meleers over assassin-types. I can't guarantee that it works perfectly but it has been said before what it will be like and it's logical compared to the info we have about the game. Nothing unfixable and untweakable, and certainly not the biggest problem surrounding Darkfall. Well it's all for me grog, me jolly jolly grog,
all for me beer and tobacco! |

Understood Rhinok, but my concerns about Darkfall are even greater seeing that Darkfall is trying to pull off even more now. To be a first person style of game, then the game engine needs to run VERY fast and smooth to provide for good game play, as in a first person shooter FPS. Could you imagine playing Halo 3 with slow character movement or extreme lag? Okay, so they are trying to pull off a first person viewpoint where your move your mouse in the direction you are looking. I got that now. I never really studied all the promised features of Darkfall and how they plan to implement everything, but now I wonder about a million more little details, which is probably not answered yet. See, this game certainly seems like it is trying to pull off way more then it can handle. It's trying to be a fast moving, skill based FPS style game that is also an mmo on a single server with 200 vs 200 player warefare as I've seen talked about several times on these forums already. It's trying to promise a million things and everyones favorite parts of a hundred thousand game style elements and put them all into this "sounds too good to be true" type of game. But we can talk forever about what they are promising to be implemented in the game. What is actually going to happen when I install and play this game on my computer is where my real concerns are. My doctor can tell me that a pill I'm supposed to take tastes like moist, tender Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and warm apple pie all in the same little pill. And his nurses that work with him, for him in his offices can tell me the same thing. But that don't mean I'm not gonna taste a chalky piece of crap pill when I put it in my mouth. (The nurses in his office being all the friends and people who put up reviews of this game from the offices or control of Aventurine) - Zaxx

Honestly, sit back and try to enjoy the ride. If the something big is going to happen, it'll happen this month. There's no reason to get worked up about the "flaws" of a game you've not yet played, so just hold off until the beta. Go play some 360...Or something. ------------------------------- |

DnD fixed this by reducing the movement speed of the shorter races (they do have shorter legs after all) and for some of the really big guys, slowing them down too. I honestly dont see a problem with this as it just adds a little more realism. Will there be a problem of shorter races ganking everyone in PvP? no...because if it does end up happening then everyone will just be looking down more often then up. I won't call you a troll, because you are not a troll. But man, you're here... bashing a game you have no knowlegde about. You haven't read any of the features I see, and yet you're here thinking fixed camera (BTW here's thr quote, she didn't say the camera is fixed, but the mousewheel zoom is... So you failed right at the start "In 3rd person view the camera is pretty close to your character and it’s fixed, so you can’t mousewheel back until your character is tiny and you can see for twenty yards behind you. Your chance to spot other people is to actually turn and look. Period." Or did you even read the text, or just passed it like you did with Darkfall's main features?) is something you we had in Doom I, where you couldn't move your crosshair, just move your character and crosshair went with it. I'm sorry, it's just funny. It's common knowledge not trying to be smart and bash something you know nothing about. It will just make you look like a fool, like you look like just now.
PS: I am a fanboy, but I am getting sceptic about release this year, sadly so. This preview we are getting from this girl seems to be the only thing we're getting for atleast a few days, so don't see Open Beta starting and ending in "Early december". But we shall wait! |
