I see threads on other sections of the website as well as on other forums of people who want darkfall to fail. Why is this?

I could only think of positives from darkfall. People who enjoy sandbox mmos could play a type of game they havn't been able to enjoy for a while, and people who have never experienced a sandbox mmo can try it out.

You must ask yourself a question grasshopper.  Is it that people want it to fail or is it that people have been so let down over the years that the just expect it to fail.  To VERY different things.

i think the OP was trying to point out that people generally feel a need to be right - it creates a comfortable position for them to be in even if they know sub-consciously they are wrong. Many people will hate on darkfalls principles as a game even though they may not actually find anything wrong with it just so their game is "better".

  Aparently you haven't seen any footage of Darkfall. Not only is it set in the same time frame as most MMO's currently out there. But it has the worst graphics. I had better graphics on my Atari 2600.

You know, flat out lies and hating will make you lose the little credibility you have on this forum, DF's graphics are not bad you probably watched the youtube version or something and you are truly a shallow gamer if you think graphics>gameplay and if DF is what it promises to be it will have the most awesome gameplay ever

I don't think anyone really wants any game to fail.  I have noticed that a lot of people here enjoy a good arguement and the long time devotees of Darkfall are easy to get a rise out of.

I hope this game makes it. I dont understand what kind of bitter and twisted individual would actively hope for a game to fail. Unless they have some kind of personal vendetta against the developers or something.

For the most part, it isnt that people want the game to fail per say.

Many people are just tired of some of the actions that the Darkfall fans have done in the last few years here.  Having the entire forumfall forums create memberships here and then several alts to vote "ones" in all the upcoming games isn't exactly a mature thing to do. Nothing wrong with creating memberships to hype your game....but its bad form and childish to lower the other games.  People here can see right through that.  Those actions alone is enough for people to lash out against the fanbase of the game.

That and many people are just naturally optmistic. Not many game companies takes 7 years to develope an MMO. Seven years in computer years is a long time and because of this many people are just "suspicious."

Haha, you're so cool.

Why? because of the rabid fantatics. Darkfall could be a good game, if it had a good community behind, but it doesn't. It has the worst community I have seen ever. And I have seen many.

Well the way I see it there are four possible reasons:

1. The "Vaporware" Crowd... These are people that have been crying "Vaporware" for so long that to admit it might be a good game at this point would be admitting defeat. So now they have switched to "It's gonna suck" just so they can save face for as long as possible.
2. The Class Based Linear Cheerleader... These are people who are into the "flavor of the month" theme park MMO and the fact that something different that may be enjoyable is about to release scares the hell out of them. So they attack it out of fear of what it may become.
3. The Anti-PvP Crowd... These people just hate PvP and people that enjoy PvP so they attack the game out of there misplaced hatred for that guy who ganked them all those years ago during there first PvP experience.
4. The Standard Forum Troll... This is someone who sees a game that others are bashing so they jump in because in some warped way they think it makes them seem cool.

I think you'll find everyone who bashes Darkfall fits neatly into one of these four categories.

The community was not like that originally. It has developed into a poor community over the years because of the negative responses directed at the game. The haters did not realize that the developers just want to get the game right. Also I believe the development team is pretty small, if you compare it to a lot of other MMO's pre-release teams.

And personally I do not think you can have "Rabid Fanatics" withough having the complete polar opposite "Hater Fanatics".
