I hope Darkfall is a quality game and gets enough subscriptions to produce a decent profit. If this happens it will provide an example to the mmorpg industry and it's investors that you do not need to produce formulaic clones in order to make a healthy profit. This industry is lacking in companies willing to go against the grain and produce innovative products. A successful Darkfall will also make it easier for other independent developers to raise funding and give everyone a wider variety games to play. If DF is very successful it will be good news for game purchasing public. |

I just want it to be known that sandboxers are a minority and the trend of the market is to go for the big show.. 100,000-250,000 active subs? Forget that.. They want the 1m+-- and they usually fail in the process... take their hard-copy $ and move on. I want it to succeed simply because I had to sit here watch this genre DIE... but sadly I doubt Darkfall will be the AMAZING solution-- lets just hope its an acceptable solution to the starved sandboxers... |

The only difference between a Troll and a Fanboi is which side of the fence they stand on. |
I want it to succeed so people stop bitching about how graphics don't matter and gameplay with FFA PVP with full loot is important. Of course, the industry as a whole has shown us that graphics DO matter, and FFA PvP with Full Loot isn't very successful really... However, I feel that id DF succeeds, that at least we can hear people stop complaining about it... that's the success I'm shooting for... not neccessarily the game doing well. |

People that actually pay for DarkFall will have had a chance to try it for free before hand comming close to 100% retention rate. They may even pull many people Nitche MMO's wouldn't normaly interest simply because they tried the free trial and decided they liked it. I like when small companies take the larger ones on especialy if they win. So I'm rooting for DF for that reason and because I realy enjoy the concept.
As far as the poster below you in regards to WoW. No ones honestly expecting DarkFall to pull WoW numbers. WoW was made from pure marketing statistics. The game play is simplified that almost anyone can play it. The System requirements are the lowest of any current MMO and most past MMO's. WoW was pure and simple meant to be a money machine. It's just sad how they went about it. They went to the owners of the Warhammer IP and asked to make a MMORPG based on there concepts. Of course they were told no. They did it anyways but changed it enough to not be sued. On the other hand if you combine the subscribers of other MMORPG's and compare them to WoW you would see they surpase WoW numbers so the Community that wants something other than WoW is out there and they are a larger community than WoW. So it has the potential to atleast. UO still has a fair sized player base, Shadow Bane as well, EvE has a good sized player base, LoTRO good size, EQ2 Good size, AoC between Fair and Good thats debatable so I will comprimise to keep the flames down and say fair - good. The point is lets say 250k subscribers actualy i'll be fair 150k subscribers on "Average" for other MMO's. There's what a minimum of 10 other fairly popular MMORPG's on the market at the moment thats 1.5mil players right there and there are more MMO's currently being played than the 10 I could think of off hand that I have played lol. WoW boasts a 1mil subscriber base and just the 10 mmo's I have played have atleast 1.5mil player base as of now and I was being very fair with the 150k subscriber average. So the potential is out there since atleast 1,499,999 other people besides me would rather pay to play something besides WoW. So yeah DarkFall has the potential , I doubt it will pull that many people due to it's sandbox nature , FFA PvP , and full loot. An easy estimate of it's player base would be 250k this isn't a unfounded estimate either and may even be lowballing it to some extent. But 250k easy maybe more. LoL I really did put my foot in mouth on one issue here was just informed WoW numbers are up to 11 million now oO'. Not sure how they got that many but they did I guess lol. So no deffinetly won't pull WoW numbers. |

*cough* A slight mistake here. The original Warcraft IP was made after Blizz was turned down by Games Workshop. Warcraft was first a RTS and that's what Blizz was asking for back then (which is a good while ago now),. WoW came later. But that's just a small detail.
On the whole, I want DF to succeed because it will bring some much needed fresh air into the genre. It may show bigger companies that the tried and proven method is not the only way to make games. That other options are there and that diversity is a good thing on the market. It will not pull WoW numbers. Too much "niche" game for that, but if it is a reliable financial success, it will get noticed and that's really what I am hoping for.
So hope against hope that DF releases as promised and doesn#t turn out to be a huge pile of broken promises in the end. |

I wasnt it to suceed just for same damn variety. Okay, I understand that games like WAR and WOW and AOC and most mmo's out there were designed for the lowest common demoninator, which is why they get so many subsrcibers (no not because they're good, since thats opinion only) It's like the Wii's success, any moron with a pulse can play Wii and that's most of it's success. Am I saying those mainstream games suck? No, in my opinion they don't. Wow, WAR and AOC are great for children, or people new to the MMO genre, or even people that dont like complixity and don't really want to think. Also very good for people who do not like risk vs reward and are cool with pretty much everythign they do meaning nothing. But the MMO genre needs spice, needs more options. I dont play any of my game son easy mode I dont want to play my mmo's on easy mode either. Give me risk vs reward, a game which requires thought, pvp that means something other then cookies and smiley face stickers which you can turn in for prizes yayy!! Give me hard-mode mmo's. Thsi is why I hoep DF succeeds. |

I hope that Darkfall is successful enough to prove that there's profit in trying to appeal to a more specific audience. No matter if you love the "theme park" games or you don't, you can't argue that they were designed for a very broad market. It seems like common sense to me that a new game shouldn't try to compete directly in a market already saturated with really solid titles. I hope this game prooves that theory. |

I agree 100%... we need Darkfall to be a success, it will pave the way for more pvp oriented sandbox mmorpg's. |

I really hope DF to bring back "hardcore" features with new commercial implemetnation so they can be liked by the masses. The best example is PK wich most of the old player like but chase most of the new players that do not know how to handle it. I really hope that DF can give example how "not fun" features can be polished and addapted instead of removed at all. Only with the time we can see what will happen. Even if DF do not become commercial success, I really hope to be great game for seasoned sandbox players. |

I hope DF is a success for my own selfish reason. The DF cult will hopefully to busy playing to spam forums constantly. The pvp whiners will finally have a game to play instead of whining about how carebears ruin their games. The pvp crowd can finally put up or shut up about how big their niche market is.
