I still say that by the time Darkfall goes live you will either have

1) servers with no equipment loss
2) a system where you can "bind" a certain amount of items
3) an insurance system where if you pay for your insurance you respawn with the same items you lost.

lets be real no one wants to run to the armory after they die in a city siege to get a new set of armor. I think the Insurance system will be the most likely.

I will not run to the armory i will run up to the nearest guy i see picking flowers and kill him for his gear beofre running back to my corpse to find my attacker.

If no one is around I will head to the nearest humaniod NPC camp that uses armour+ weapons and kill them for their gear (NPCS drop what they are using in DF).

If neither option is available I will ask my clan for help in catching my killer and getting my stuff back.

I havent started to consider making my own new gear, buying gear in town, getting spares from the bank etc.

Although pre launch the expectation in the minds of many is that DF will be a violent non stop PvP game, the truth is likley very different and a much more cooperative world will eventually be formed due to the dependance of players on each other to succeed.

the game is going live in 3 months and it will be full loot - its not even being considered otherwise. Full loot is a core feature that was discussed and decided upon in 2003 or thereabouts. so I dont know wtf you are babbling about.

Because no matter how any times people keep repeating it none of those things are completely true.  However the developers intend to strike a balance where those things will be more nearly true than in the vast majority of current MMOs. How well they do remains to be seen.

Then don't play the game if you have such an issue with penalty for dying.

Freaking carebear <<

I love it that they have a risk, compared to other games. I mean seriously, ooh i died and got a battle penalty which i can take away by paying a small fee. Or a small exp loss. That's so lame and there's no Risk Vs Reward.

And if the fella is trying to attack you, just make sure you've trained your sprint/run ability. Who can catch someone that runs 1/3 faster than him? :D

There should be an option to flag yourself non-killable by other players. Since farming is in the game I would not like to be killed while taken care of my crops.

Can you think a bit further then for yourself ? What would happen if this get implemented and all use this "feature" in every  situation ?

I hope this game doesnt turn out to be lots of naked chars running round trying to equip themselevs for the next fight! i like to spend most my time fighting not equipping :( then again it could just be the so called self confessed hardcore players on this site are ruining the rep of DF. I have to admit i used to argue that i'm not carebear but recently it seems its more respectable to be carebear than hardcore. you can tell real hardcore players...they are not on forums claiming to be hardcore!

Since we've seen little of DF its hard to answer questions like this.  Closest parallel I can make is with EVE.

In EVE we follow a rule, never fly what you can't afford to lose.  So, if I'm about to go out into a fight where I'm certain ship loss is imminent I grab something cheap, easily insured and that I don't care much about losing. (like an 8M ISK cruiser)  If I'm heading out in a huge fleet where I'm pretty sure we're going to destroy our opponents (or I'll have a good  chance to run) I'l break out the 250M ISK Battleship.

So I rather expect in DF the same will be true.  If' I am leaving town and am pretty sure I'm about to hit a gank squad solo, I'll grab a sword and go out naked (or wear some cheap, easily replaced gear.) However if my guild is getting a 40 man together, expect me to put on the good stuff, but even then, I figure I'll be able to replace it even if its lost in battle. (just like the 250M ISK BS I mentioned above)

And don't get me wrong, I'm a cheap SOB and hate losing. So just because I'm flying an 8M ISK cruiser doesn't mean I don't fear dying (hate seeing my name on the wrong side of the killboard) so I play just as hard no matter what ship I'm flying. (OK, except for T1 Frigates, don't really care what happens to me then, but thats sort of like fighting naked)

To the last point.  While it might be true a highly skilled, but naked player could beat a geared character, that's not the way to bet unless the skill differences are extraordinary.  And truthfully, if a player knows he's that good, he'll have no fear of putting on his best gear, because he knows he isn't going to lose, and the gear only serves to make it that much more so.

Look, I'm a carebear by nature, and I don't like dying or losing my gear.  But just like my fear of needles when I was a child, I've learned to overcome my fear of PVP and now days play on nothing but games which have strong PVP with reward/penalty games. (and I'm still a carebear, but I do love a good fight now and then, and thrill to escaping the gankers)

So give DF a chance.  A lot will depend on how the Dev's implement this system, but hey, they've had 7 years to mull this over, maybe they'll get it right.

"Pretend inferiority and encourage his arrogance." -Sun Tzu

While having player looting will severely limit their player base, I think a lot of gamers are happy to see this in an MMO being released in the near future. One thing that disappoints me about WAR is the fact that there is no penalty for death, except for about 20 seconds waiting to be ressurected.

Darkfall ceo is a retard! Who wants to lose his hard earn equipment? No one does! This is why I'm making this petition to save Darkfall from a miserably failure because No ONE PLAYS a player looting game nowadays. The player-looting era ended with Runescape that game is horrible due the fact its pvp was player looting type. I play mmorpg for progression and my progression means alot to me and many other people aswell, neither they or I want to lose my equipment to some asshole!

I want Darkfall to be a successful mmorpg, but the approach Aventurine is taking will only lead Darkfall to its failure!
