If you''re going to be crazy, you have to get paid for it or else you''re going to be locked up.

1) if you're judging the graphics from youtube without watching the hi-res version, your opinion is pretty worthless.

2) darkfall's graphics are not instanced in any way, it's a seamless world, with no zoning except for dungeons.

3) darkfall's graphics were designed for 100v100 battles at playable framerates.

4) the general standard of Darkfall graphics is very high, they are just let down a bit by *some* poorer quality graphical elements, specifically cannonball explosion effects are pretty ordinary, and some character animations are a bit jerky, eg: dwarves walking down slopes needs tweaking.

5) certain things, like Darkfall's outdoor environments, sky/clouds, and dynamic shadows are absolutely top-notch, not to mention the amazing wind/weather effects on trees & grass moving, eg: aerdian cat video.

6) it's still only a low-resolution video of footage taken on medium settings.

First off you contradicted yourself in points 1 and 2. First saying there is a hi res version and then saying there is only a low resolution version. I watched the download and I didn't like it,  the gameplay didnt look all that fun . I understand that there is supposed to be massive battles and not many Instances but the gameplay looks jerky as is and its not even that  big of battles.  Vanguard has good graphics and its an open world with dungeons that arn't instance, well atleast not all of them. If Darkfall was free Id try it but I wouldn't spend 50 bucks to buy it and pay 15 bucks a month to play.

Playing FFXI. Waiting for Fallen Earth and SE new MMO.

On a decent computer with the graphics options turned down, yes. I played L2 for over 3 years and even mid ranged comps for the time could do playable frame rates in a siege with the graphics at a minimum. Sure you would have lag spikes now and then but nothing that was "game killing" as usually they were at the server level so everyone experienced them at the same time and they usually lasted less than 1 second. This is more than doable and to say it isn't is just plain ignorant. If a 5 year old game has pulled it off Darkfall certainly can.....no doubt in my mind.

Edit: Hell I even sieged once or twice on my craptastic Dell laptop. Sure the framerate wasn't great but it was still more than playable. Just a little annoying.

Either your pain threshold is considerably higher than mine or low settings is stick figures.

Just curious, but how were your experiences with L2 mass combat?  How was lag for you?  What settings did you have to go to?

Thanks in advance.

I just watched the videos again and I have to say, I think the graphics are awesome. The animations need work like running and explosions but overall it looks very nice.

10:00 - 10:25 on this good quality version (though not the best) is just so great to me in terms of graphics and the land.

Seriously it may not be the best graphics in the industry...but to call this thing dinosaurware or crap is just wrong.  Im all for people opinions but those really bad comments about it is just crossing the line of personal taste and trolling.

Or youre on drugs...really good drugs.

daoc is pretty good when it comes to large scale pvp.  frame rates in this vid aren't that bad but even here you can see the lag and rubber banding.

i'm curious to see how darkfall will deal with this problem.  i doubt scaling down graphics alone would solve it especially with twitch based combat.

i'll reserve judgement on the graphics because they weren't at full as some of you say but i do wonder why they didn't record this highly anticipated video in better quality.

Depression is just anger without the enthusiasm.

Anybody that's truly *that* worried about graphics isn't, in my opinion, a real MMO fan - or for that matter, a real gaming fan full stop. Graphics are nothing more than an extra measure to help engage the player, something which shouldn't be necessary if a game's actual gameplay is engaging enough in itself.

This is correct, 100% correct.  And the people who are making complete judgements about this game purely based on graphics, which arent even bad, just are beyond my comprehension.

Awsome game, cant wait.

i accept the graphics are a tad crappy due to the tech requirements of the game but seriously...even for such a tech heavy game...they can do better ( and no doubt they will try).  SWG was pretty openworld/big and it managed to have way better graphics than what Darkfall currently has.

I also agree 100%.

Despite the graphics looking pretty mediocre (wow without art direction), it really seems to be pretty fun. More so than I thought before seeing the video.

saying swg had "way" better graphics is pushing it.

if you look at 10:00 to 10:25 in the link i gave above in this thread...and look at that temple in the sand/desert it reminds me for some reason of tattoine and there is no way that tat was any better than that.

Im a swg vet and if i really cared enough i could pull up side by side screen shots.  DF graphics are just as good, if not better regarding so
