Some point to emphasise:

1) if you're judging the graphics from youtube without watching the hi-res version, your opinion is pretty worthless.

2) darkfall's graphics are not instanced in any way, it's a seamless world, with no zoning except for dungeons.

3) darkfall's graphics were designed for 100v100 battles at playable framerates.

4) the general standard of Darkfall graphics is very high, they are just let down a bit by *some* poorer quality graphical elements, specifically cannonball explosion effects are pretty ordinary, and some character animations are a bit jerky, eg: dwarves walking down slopes needs tweaking.

5) certain things, like Darkfall's outdoor environments, sky/clouds, and dynamic shadows are absolutely top-notch, not to mention the amazing wind/weather effects on trees & grass moving, eg: aerdian cat video.

6) it's still only a low-resolution video of footage taken on medium settings.

Words

if people simply havent found the non-youtube versions yet, they arent morons.  so edit that if you want people to take you seriously.

other than that, all very valid points.  and for the record yea the youtube quality is not the way to watch this video, it is a completely different experience.

Yes, they are. If the video is about Darkfall and they don't have the brain to check the official Darkfall forums for the video update, then yes, they are stupid.

If this game had AoC and Vanguard graphics, PvP on this scale, with collision detection, physics, and twitch FPS style combat, would not be even remotely possible. Age of Conan can't even have 40 people on a screen with their mediocre combat system before it dies.

All that, and the trailer was on a test machine, during beta, on medium settings. Pretty good so far.

I too had the download going and got anxious and watched the youtube videos. It was horrifc looking on youtube. Honestly it was one of those "I wish I had my beer goggles on" Moments. Then when the video finally finished downloading the difference was almost incomparable. OF course I had a couple of beers in between but still! I watched it this morning too and it was great. Although that first morning beer is always the best. Haha!

I found the graphics to be pretty good actually. Some of the animations could use work but beta hasn't even started yet. And to be honest, I'd rather have massive content and immersion over top of the line graphics anyway. If I just wanted the best graphics, I'd go play AoC with it's empty shell of a game that it is.

Content-Immersion > Best Graphics

You hit it right on the nail. WIth today's technology, this is what you get. They may update some of the graphical elements by October's beta. But it won't look like what you see in today's games such as EVE, LOTRO or Age of Conan. You basically get what you want. You want 100vs100 battles. Well you get dated graphics that can with stand that number. I doubt they will ever make it that much better. The engine is probably just as dated as the graphics. It will run into the WoW scenario. WoW couldn't allow flying mounts in the Old World because the engine it was built on would have to take a significant overhaul. And they didn't want to go through having there subscribers download some outrageous DL just to play. This may have changed though for WoW. I have not played the game in quite along time.

SWG Publish 4 Jedi:Flurry: TKM unlock

As long as they find a good balance, which i think they will. That and ALOT of peple bashing this game seem to forget, when making games with any ammount of players in all out combat, "Its not only the gamers who half to have the rigs to handle the gameplay""" You half to take in consideration of the servers that are running the game and whether they can handle all this without just blowing up, so to make a game seamless and huge like this be able to play looking good on highest settings and fairly decent on medium, for a wide range of systems to handle, And also keep gameplay fair with such scalable graphics, Well i know i would have a hell of a time even considering how to start that, Its like finding the "perfect blend" between graphics, players, fairness, server stability, and player stability... While running seamlessly and looking nice? Added with the features that they promiss, this is almost unheard of. Let me rephrase that, "This is unheard of"

no sigs

Your mostly right. The WoW engine could allow flying, however, the devs never made Azeroth with flying in mind, therefor they don't allow flying in Azeroth. You could access a lot of areas they don't want you to get to like the unfinished zones.

100 vs 100 battles at decent framerates across the internet even on the lowest graphics setings is going to be a hell of a trick.  Shadowbane can't do it and their client was designed to run on a pentium III 1.2ghz and a 64 Mb openGL  compliant video card minimum.  Then again SB's horrid avatar graphics and animations are better than the ones seen in the Darkfall video. So far.

Even sandboxes have fundamental rules such as; "Don't eat the cat poop, you'll die."
