Darkfall is a curious combination of no to little information, coupled with an unknown developing team and a HUGE promise.
If they hadn't promised all the features they did, people might not be as untrusting. If they hadn't boasted of how their game will be bigger, better, faster, and avbove all innovative than all others, people might believe them a little more.
As it is, they promised the MMO Dream come true, with no risks involved, free to test, no strings attached. All the while providing no proof that they actually have a game with all those features they promised (even though it's supposed to be feature complete for a while now).Is it really that difficult to see why people could be skeptical?
I hear alot about these huge promises and yet when I read the featurelist, I seem to find no features that haven't been done before in one way or another. Could you be bothered making a list ? I don't see why ppl should be so sceptical because you as a customer will be (or should be) able to test the features before any cash is exchanged. Most hoaxes are aimed at getting cash, not crushing MMO dreams. |

Most hoaxes are aimed at getting cash, not crushing MMO dreams. There was at some point, a list of all the promises Darkfall has made. And it's not -one- feature that stands out, it's the combination of all of them. Let's see. I'll list a few from the top of my head.
1.) Largest world in any MMO Currently out or in Production (Twice as large) 2.) At the same time, seamless world with NO Loadingscreens whatsoever. All of it handcrafted in all detail. 3.) Advanced AI that will make Monsters have their own "societies" Player actions will have effect on the creatures ecology (making it possible to actually eradicate certain creatures from an area). 4.) Ship combat with fully walkable ships, each crewmember manning guns and whatnot. 5.) Mounts that are not just mounts but companions with their own AI. 6.) Intuitive Skillsystem with 500 Unique skills and 500 Spells at launch alone. 7.) Crafting System that will put others to shame, with -EVERY- item in the world being craftable. 8.) FPS Style Massive Combat with 200 people on screen while still getting 60+ FPS from an average computer with 200+FPS during normal loads. 9.) 10000+ players on one server, in ONE world, no zones, no nothing. 10.) Chatsystem that will even allow you to access chat from your Cel-Phone.
So...that's just the things I can think of in a jiffy. Alone, by itself, each feature might not be so hugely surprising. Add them all together in ONE game...it sounds rather too good to be true. |

Yeah...if it ever realeases with all those features in it, it will be an excellent game (provided it will also run as great as they promise us). I think nobody would ever argue that.
The question here is the possibility of the game releasing with all they have promised. And in my eyes, that possibility is very...very low. |

Originally posted by singsofdeath Look someone made a funny. I think even Blizzard Entertainment would run at full speed away from attempting something like this. It would literally cost like 50 million dollars to develop something like this from scratch with at least a 150 man team working for many many years. P.S - you forgot to include the hundreds of dungeons and hundreds of quests. Darkfall is a pipe dream. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a lunatic. |

It was a hoax as in they did not deliever what they promoted.... Its that simple.... AoC is a shell of what they told everyone it was, it was not even close to what was hyped. AoC = Failure and should not have launched.
So.... By your way of thinking. If Darkfall doesn't deliver EVERY single feature they promise, (and they promise the HOLY GRAIL of features), then Darkfall will be a hoax also? Because... If you've read the feature list that Darkfall has promised, you might as well start calling Darkfall a hoax. I'm serious. Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't call Darkfall a hoax if there were some missing features BUT... You would have to, based on your statement above. |

Trying to use logical thought doesn't work so good here. Good try though. But you're never going to get through to him. |

Want Darkfall now! |
I dont get this? Who decides whats difficult to develop? Some say DF features are "Utterly ridiculus". But some company have to do it. We know its not impossible, we know MMOs get less and less features for every year that passes....but computer power are doubled almost every year. Isnt that something that should be called "Utterly ridiculus"? Or is it ok maybe? Some dont want to see forward, what we can do today. Blizzard and Funcom refuses to make anything complex, and every other MMO developer must follow that! Its a very lame excuse for you to not demand more from the todays developers! Because noone else does it! Very lame. |

Please. Just try to think of it logically. The more features you want to have, the more difficult it becomes. Yet, DF promises -all- while being a company that has no MMO publishing/developing experience, very little funding and a comparatively small Dev team. Do the math. |
