It's becaue they can't get anyone to publish or distribute this in the USA.

Funny how they don't just put it up on Direct2Drive.com

Then they would not need ANYONE. No one to distribute or burn DVD's. All they would need is their own servers.

The fact that they do not go this route and put it on Direct2Drive just tells me that it isn't good enough quality to go there.

Exactly, this is just more smoke and mirrors, they don’t have a Publisher or distributor for NA because no one over the last 2 years who they have demonstrated Darkfall to has ever wanted to publish or distribute it, and its increasingly unlikely that they will find anyone who wants to with only 5 months till launch.

The only company we know of so far who has any involvement with Aventurine is AVE who only have an MoU to distribute Darkfall in Europe, so nothing definite their yet, and still no Publisher for Europe either.

If you read what he says carefully, he’s trying to give the impression that they have lots of options, and are considering offers, that things are moving fast and could change at anytime, that this is only what might happen, that they are hoping to do a simultaneous launch, or launch in NA soon after Europe etc. this is all just more marketing and promotional BS in my opinion, he’s been saying the same things about publishing and launch for years.

Aventurine is going to have to self publish Darkfall and distribute it themselves because so far, 5 months from launch no body else seems to want to, despite what Tasos says.

Tasos is going to maintain this façade to the last possible moment in a desperate attempt to attract potential investors ,publisher and distributors, 5 months before launch with no definite contracts for publishing or distribution looks bad for Darkfall but he’s going to spin it as positively as possible, especially to the customers/community.

People can draw their own conclusions as to what this indicates about the potential quality of Darkfall, and its chance of success.

And if Aventurine does sign publishing and distribution contract's for Darkfall with company's for Europe and NA over the next 5 months I will accept I was wrong, but even Tasos himself is acknowledging this at the very least might not happen, let alone that it is even likely to happen at this stage.

What does it cost to "put it up on Direct2Drive" ? Also I don't think that the distribution is the biggest problem here. You would like to have some servers up and running in the states right ?

publishers are not that picky when it comes to publishing games. that's where they make their money. they are, however, greedy and understandably stingy toward studios without a demonstrated track record of game development.

i would say it's a straight business decision, they've had offers, but turned them down for business reasons. even though DF is a niche game, there's no way in hell a publisher is going to not submit at least an offer, unless it conflicts badly with their extant portfolio.

trust me, tons of people are watching DF.

 Nothing. They just take a % of each sale you make.

 Aventurine would not even have to do that. They could simply setup an online store and sell the game for Direct download themselves.

It's very easy to get servers setup in the USA even if they are in Greece. The data center sets everything up for you based on your specs and you can simply remotely connect to them for maintenance etc...  or have Data center employees do it.

Of course you actually need some real money for that..

All Darkfall related websites used to be hosted in Texas at theplanet.com.

Now they are all hosted in the UK for some reason..

So true and the reality is is that they also will want to start of with a single cluster and grow from that which will allow for a better gaming experience.

It's basically so obvious that you can just call it a fact that they cannot find a publisher because they're product is not up to par with industry standards.

And just so you know there ARE smaller publishers in the USA that are very "hands off" and don't get involved in development at all. They only box up the product and distribute it.
