So yeah, I totally have the utmost respect for Aventurine after watching this video, and my excitement for Darkfall 2.0 is now at an all time high.

I saw this early and went back to view it again, but it's been removed by user.  I wonder what happened.

Yes. It's the same one. Thanks for posting.

It's cool to see the people behind the game. It makes me less inclined to mercilessly troll them and accuse them of lying etc., (like a lot of people do in the official forums) when you can see that they are just dudes who made a game and they are trying to do something they are passionate about. I also hope they succeed to provide an alternative to the more mainstream offerings for our special niche that loves this game.

You have respect for what?

I would say they totally fcuked up a good game.

What did they say. 500000 have tried the game, but still we have 500 active players left. That is what I would call an epic failure. They never fixed the main problems and I`m not sure they ever will. We can only hope DF2 will take care of those problems.

GUI, newbie experience and the insane grind.

At least we can buy reagents in bulk now. Clicking 10000 times only to get enough reagents to get my skill X up for 1,02 points.

Who did wrong? The advertiser hired to sell the game or the consumer who put faith in advertising?

They said 150,000 in the documentary. That's pretty good for this type of game.

Also get used to the fact that with every mmo that releases, many more will try it than eventually sub to it. Name one post-WoW mmo that has been any different (save EVE).

Sorry my bad.

150000 is good, that`s true. We now know there is a marked for full-loot pvp, so then the question will be why they all quit. If AV doesn`t fix the reason why full-loot pvpers quit, then DF2 will also fail.

Wrong, they said 150,000 have bought the game. Bought the game != Active Players.

As for the video itself, it seems that Aventurine does not understand why their game flopped. When they start talking about how, at Lauch, they failed to take the opportunity to make more money (buying the game at Launch was a feat in of itself due to constant crashing and small amounts of copies released per week), but that is wrong. Launch did screw them over pretty badly, but it should be noted that MANY very important features that were said to be in the game suddenly...weren't. Now that's a killer.

Respect for trying something so risky and different, especially being such obvious amateurs as can be seen in the video.

I have a lot of faith that they will get Darkfall 2.0 right, and bring back those thousands of players that were there at EU-1 launch, and hopefully bring in new blood as well. They admit in the video that they fucked up the launch, and it's obvious from the recent weekly updates that they believe they have learned from their prior mistakes and failures.

Only time will tell, but I strongly believe that we'll all be playing on populated servers once DF 2.0 hits the market.

DF2.0 will fail unless:

- effects of skills in combat is taken way down so that a newbie still stands a chance against a vet

- an ongoing racial territory war is started that players can lead and influence. Orc incursions into human lands etc.

- get rid of all race clans they ruin the lore

- get rid of the stupid village system, add player housing in cities or out in open

- add local banking

- increase crafting complexity

If some kind of ongoing racial war that is lore led is not intoduced the game decends into epeen clan vs clan.

Just my thoughts.

According to their update on the 30th, they are going to Korea this week to meet with their "Korean partners."

I would prefer DF with no race rather than forcing players to play with their faction. Unlike wow and other games, you are only allowed to make one characer. I wouldnt want to buy 3 accounts only to play with 3 different group of friends.

local banking, while it would be great, it wouldnt work for a huge world that we have in DF. Well, it can only work when DF will finally manage to gather 10k players in 1 server. That way, regional pvp will happen everywhere, so there wont be much reason to move far away only to find pvp.

The village system is far from stupid. Its just not sandboxy. The real problem is, only few players can own a house at the same time. They just need to allow every single players in game to have their own house spot with their own vendor. Anyway, why do you want housing in cities?

Someone explain it to me how they managed to claim Darkfall and AV to be a success story ?!

Half a million tried the game from which 95 % never paid for it and the population of both DF servers is probably under 2000 players combined. If that's an example of Greek success story, no wonder that country is in huge trouble.

Pvp surely was a promising despite ridiculous melee combat system, but that's about it. Darkfall's seemless world feels rather lacking of FUN and I won't even mention the Holy Grind, average graphics, horrible animations and sound effects. The game lacks of fun driven game play, generally speaking game content which would attract more then just some pvp obsessed minority. Even them left when there was no more sheep to kill.

I never had a problem with AV programming team, maybe except fact there is simply not enough programmers in it. AV failed at the design level.

If they do make a succesful darkfall 2.0 i hope they will be able to open a server near australia because playing on the US servers is almsot like playing a FPS on a Server with 200+ ping its isnt to much fun. You couldnt melee, and you have about a .4 second longer cast on spells and arrows which doesnt seem like alot but it does make alot of difference.

Well, nowadays, for mmo's i'm not sure what success is when most of them are F2P.
