This is true. However some games do need a giant warning to stay away from as good public service. Not saying DF in particular but some. Granted its all opinion but some scores do make sense and reflect what the game deserves.

The OP is absolutely right.  A quick glance at ratings here show you that the site and players rank crappy games really high (see Aion and Eve) so the rating on Darkfall is wrong.  Based on other ratings, it really should be much, much lower.

Y'know, I remember back when Darkfall was rated fairly high. This was because the Darkfall community was spamming the rating system - I know, I was one of them. Darkfall's current state is due to all those who left when the game was released, due to not finding what they were looking for. In their disappointment, many, many of them came back here and changed their rating. Again, I know - I was one of them.

Whether Darkfall's current rating reflects the state of the game or the state of the community, I don't know. I do know, however, that there are likely very few botnets dedicated to voting this game down, which means that the majority of those downvotes represent the opinions (informed or otherwise) of actual people.

Personally, if I could put up a big 'do not play' sign on any game, it would be Darkfall. It's the kind of game where either those who have absolutely no real life reign supreme (which is a huge draw for addicts) or those who partake in RME / account sharing to have a character being trained 24/7 benefit most.

It's like Tibia, but not as cute.

You stopped playing before the last big patch. No life grinders no longer have the upper hand anymore and many of them even quit. You should really look up the game progresses before making definitive statments like that.

I think you missed a very important point in all this.  The scores you see at your link are NOT from our writers (who actually score the game *reviews* that we do, not our staff).  The scores in your link are based on our community casting votes for the games...not us.

Scores usually are based upon other factors besides full loot PVP/ seamless world like how polished the game is. Scores don't mean much to me unless they are like 1 2 3 4

First off, does DF deserve a very mediocre rating at best? Absolutely! Even many of us who would love a well done FFA PvP game stayed well clear of this steaming pile because of how unfinished and badly done it is. Does it have "potential" to eventually be a decent game, sure...in a year, two..five / who knows when they will actually "finish" it...by which point it will be even more badly dated in terms of graphics and gameplay.

The tiny detail that most of the official reviews on this site are nearly worthless because of how badly "vetted" the process is and the degree to which it is dominated by fanbois, shills or people with other agendas really doesn't somehow make DF finished or a better game than it is.

You can't rate Darkfall because its in a class by itself.  There is no other MMORPG like it on the market yet.

I really don't think the topic's stupid.  I don't believe Darkfall's as crappy as many titles rated higher than it, and most people who play would agree.  Your opinion that my topic is stupid, is stupid.  That's my opinion.

I don't think I would have taken it quite as far as to call it a stupid topic but he is right actually.  A rating is based on opinion and in the opinion of most mmo players this game is not fun desirable or worth a high rating, and it would be no big surprise if the actual reviewer giving an opinion felt as most people do.  Think of yourself as a trailblazer you are just the leader of a new revolution in gaming maybe that way you can feel better and stop trying to bash other peoples games.

The way you act after the original post makes all the bad stuff said about DF fans seem highly valid you throw in barbs toward popular game types and why?  You don't like them don't play them like we do DF for the most part.

The only valid reason I can see for rants like you tend to go on against anyone who doesn't agree with you is anger that you are actually not having as much fun in DF as you think maybe it is a low population issue, I mean why else would you rage against the rest of the mmo community?  Did it ever occur to you most mmo players are not even pvp players?  I play one of the games I'm sure you hate LOTRO and I've never even known what it is rated because it's fun for me and many more people so we don't need to go trying to convince people of that point.

So my suggestion is instead of getting pisseed at the other companies out there serving the more common market get mad at AV for being unable to this point to pull off the sandbox "world" that this game appeared to be on it's way to becoming.

For the record there are many players out there myself included who would have no problem being fodder for you the hardcore types if this game offered even one iota of what we are used to and enjoy in games.  And in a professional package that in many ways didn't appear to be something put together in a college dorm room.

That's my opinion of DF and as opposed to worrying about the games that you denounce for purely personal taste why don't you push for AV to meet those games standards and maybe it would have a higher rating.

 At one point Darkfall was the highest rated game on the site.  Then it was released, people started playing it and it has been dropping ever since so I would say it earned it's rating.

I think I found that the problem is that the DF fans tend to think they are in the cool club and they know  a secret but no one cares about the secret so they try to push it on others.. DF isnt horrible and its not good which puts it in the mediocre rankings.  Fact is in reality no score under 9/10 would have been high enough.

One would assume you have never played those two games, then. They are older, polished games that do very competently what they intend to.

A game as shallow as DFO cannot compare, at this stage. Maybe in the future, if there's a future.

Exactly ratings are based upon how a game does what it does and DF does most of what it does bad. Later on op mentions Wizard 101, have you played that game?  I assure you it does what it does and serves it's market much better than DF does.  And that is why it has a higher rating than DF.  The ratings are not based on "cool" factor but actual gameplay ease of game graphics stability and community and in all of these departments DF is seriously lacking.

Why because you happen to like DF better?  Well if so that would explain why you aren ot a paid reviewer.  Again guys as a reviewer it is not that persons job to give Hello Kitty Online a bad review because it is not a "cool" game or a pvp game but to rate it on whatit does offer and how well it serves it's market and again many pvp players don't even like DF.  The end result is this post takes fanboism to the extreme.

its ranked so low because the quality of the game is low and rather shallow. Does that mean its a bad game not really. Does it mean you shouldn't play or try it no. If you like the game that should be all that matters.

UI is crap, gfx is crap, content is crap and combat is crap. So yes, it should be rated that poorly.

Both UO and AC were better than this pile of junk. They were professional games made by professional developers, DF is an amateuristic game made by amteuristic developers.

The GFX engine of Darkfall is not much better than AC which was released, what, 10 years ago?

Lest we forget the fail human behind Adventurine that is untrustworthy and would steal your wallet if he had the chance!

Is just the dubious and incase of eurogemer the shoddy have giving such low ratings. Respected print media with years of experience in gaming like Total Pc Gaming magazine has written given more objective ratings. Not to mention that the haters here coming from the mediocre bad mainstream games give DF an biased gamers voting, anyone who even don't played DF and hates good and challenging games has the chance to freely show his bad voting behaviour here  without restriction.
