"Originally posted by eldanloco Ahhh Darkfall, the game we all love to hate. No, we can not force them to release details about their game. I imagine if there is an actual beta happening right now it is behind 2 concrete walls, bulletproof glass, and a curtain. You know what is killing a lot of MMOs nowadays? Bad word of mouth! People go into betas with the mindset "This is the game," when it should be, "Time to do my job and test this game out to fix bugs." They then complain, turn lots of people off, and people that do make it to the game start looking for all the bugs. When they find them, and they will because it is an MMO, they act like the game is horrible and must be clensed from this earth. Aventurine needs to keep their baby safe and sound until it is to a level of their satisfaction. The MMO community has lost its patience with games that come out with too many bugs and empty promises. How many times have you heard, "_____ feature didn't make it into release, but we will try to work it in soon!" It never makes it. Games are releasing with too many servers, which makes every server low/med populations... let's face it, too many people is not a bad thing. I used to love being a solo MMO player, but that is an antiquated notion. People like playing with other people or they would be playing Oblivion instead. I could go on and on about the change in the MMO market, the rabid consumers, and the weak-willed developers, but the fact is that if you want to survive in this day and age in the MMO biz... you can afford few mistakes."
This is the best explanation of Aventurine's policy that I have found. Whatever you think of it, I'm sure that, if they have the game they say they have, then some version of this is the motivation behind their secrecy. I am a skeptical supporter of DF. I am not a fanboi nor a troll. I seek the truth in every discussion, and I am truly sorry if I mistakenly state a fallacy. |

I do agree with you to some extent about the 'judgement' of a closed beta, but when you consider the fact that this game is supposedly launching this year, you'd think it should be almost complete. I'm amazed that not a single person has come forth and even posted a screenshot to confirm that closed beta is in fact being carried out. Anyone without downs could get away with it. We've been going by what Tasos has been saying for the last few years with hardly any actual proof to show for it. The most gameplay footage seen would not have been possible if it weren't for a fan that got to attend the Athens event. Aren't you the least bit skeptical/worried about the progress of the game? I still believe the game will come out eventually, it's just the absolute unorthodox approach these guys have taken that has me wondering when it will happen and how feature-comple the game will be. Don't even know why I bothered typing this either... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

There was a thread posted earlier by a mmorpg moderator about people being in Darkfall beta that cant say anything about it because of the NDA rules. So even if staffers from MMORPG.com were invited into darkfall they cant tell you squat, they cant give you any info. Also I would like to believe that everyone even staffers from this site would be in the "waiting list" as a possible beta tester. Just because they have a site doesnt give them the gaurantee that they will get in beta, so basically I guess they are treated as "regular" people and will have to wait to see if they can get into beta just like many of us. |

Originally posted by TenSpotting They are inviting people who will test the game, not contest winners or editors. People can review the game when it is released. DF needs no more hype, it is already much more hyped than what they intended. Everyone that intends to play DF already knows about it, marketing like a beta preview would be pointless. Let's remember, this isn't AoC, they are making a real game and want it to be good. They aren't trying to get as many people as possible to buy it at launch before they realize the game was shit. Just use common sense. It is a TEST afterall. Try harder trolls, maybe then someone will take you seriously. Look harder on the big guilds websites, even the small guilds lol, you will find beta leaks. Your mind is like a parachute, it's only useful when it's open. |

Yep and it is unfortunate because there are some very intelligent people on these boards. However it is a breeding ground for people who need to compensate for RL and troll to feel good. DF forums are a prime example. I mean sometimes we get baited but for the most part, deep down, everyone looks at some of these posts and feels bad that there is an actual human on the other side of a computer somewhere. ---sig---

Also because anyone who has lived in the real world knows that Aventurine has no "actions" to explain at all. When they release a product on to the market, then they will be judged. They have done NOTHING wrong to this community. Sorry if you didnt get to play the game for free the times the attempted to have beta and feel wronged. Because besides that, they have done nothing. ---sig---

Tenspotting, if they are giving away beta invites so prolifically, why did you feel the need to post a thread knocking Aion earlier today? Which, I might say, you would not have posted had the same issue been null from the Darkfall forums. I have never knocked the DF aesthtic, yet somehow, you felt the need to drag the argument (like a DFVWT) to another game?
Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom. Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR. |

I bet they do pay more attention than you think. Polar's thread awhile back is pretty good evidence of it. What else are they doing? |

My guess is, since you have only been here a few days, is that you came here from Yahoo chat, and only for Darkfall, which if that was why I arrived, I might agree... But, I hate to tell you this, tastethe, javac, muffins: mmorpg.com is a decent place. If you don't like it, make it better. Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom. Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR. |

For information about upcomming and released MMOs....yea its probably one of the best around. For forum conversation...it is hands down one of the worst youll find anywhere. That is pretty well known around many other forums, not just my opinion. ---sig---
