Lets face it, MMOs today are turning into single player console games with a chat box included. |

I think that this is worth quoting, as it is an entirely valid reason for Aveturine to be proceeding in the way that they are. This seems to be as close as we are going to get to seeing inside the minds of the devs. This is that all important "why." I am a skeptical supporter of DF. I am not a fanboi nor a troll. I seek the truth in every discussion, and I am truly sorry if I mistakenly state a fallacy. |

Omg, lol. You point out in your first line that anyone interested in this game is not a customer and then you go on to write 2 more paragraphs about their relationship to these non existant customers. How can they have good business practice when no business has been conducted? How can they have a track record they have never sold even 1 game? You cannot buy anything from them. You can sit on this on this forum for the next 5 years complaining and you know very well that if at the end of this period they release a good game that you will buy it anyway. It is impossible for them to wrong you via their businesses practices at present time as you cannot pay them any money. |

Haha, Aventurine might be a shady company, but I still can`t see how they do anyone in the mmo community any harm. I have to quote Obama on this one. "We`ve been asked to pause for a reality check. We`ve been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope. but in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope." Right now Aventurine is offering the mmo community something new, and most of us oldtimers really hope they will change something. It`s not Aventurine, but the hope of PvP in a mmo again. Sure we are skeptic, but we don`t have any other mmo. All the game out there is either really old or an EQ clone. What I don`t get is why many of you are being so negative about Darkfall. We are probably only 250.000 who will play this game anyway. None of you WOW, WaR Lotr or the rest of the EQ clones will play it anyway. If Darkfall fails to deliver, we who love hardcore pvp will be the only one who will suffer. But we will still wait for the next game that might give us what we want. And no, Darkfall don`t rob me of any time. The TV, WAR and civ 4 does that part really well.
Teenspotting, I noticed this reply from you in general discussion. "There's no mmorpg's that interest me at all.. I don't even play mmorpg's anymore. I am waiting for StarCraft2 and Diablo 3. Guranteed great games and years of entertainment." Why are you even in this forum or any forum at mmorpg.com? Mmorpg is Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games, what you are waiting for is a comand and conquer clone and a console game. I cannot belive they made those games massive. Currently grinding Darkfall |

OP, I'm still waiting for an answer to my question. Here's what I said.
"Whoa whoa whoa whoah. Wait a second, whoah. I'm going to resist flaming the hell out of you, because I really want an answer here.
HOW LONG did you follow Lord of the Rings Online? It was possibly one of the WORST development histories. I followed it from 2002 to release. And what did I get? SHAFTED. Here's the history.
Turbine talks about releasing an MMO, called Middle Earth Online (same game) where the point is to live in Middle Earth. It is a sandbox, stays strictly to the lore, stretches from Eriador to Moria. Do whatever you want, make your own story.
Then, about 2004, I went to Turbine Nation, where a demo of MEO would be on display. There was no demo, I talked to the devs, they seemed really cool and enthusiastic. 2005 they canceled Turbine Nation. All information on MEO stopped. NOTHING, no information for about 10 months. Then, come new year, Turbine announces they won a legal battle and would be developing MEO by themselves! Yay! Also, the game is called Lord of the Rings Online now, but its the same game don't worry! 2006 I attended an even better Turbine Nation then before. Most of the awesome devs were gone, and isntead there were a bunch of rookie looking 20 year olds there, many of which didn't really care about the books from what I asked. I got to play a LotRO demo and won a place in alpha testing, along with a Sting replica. Playing in Alpha I realized something was wrong. The entire game that they had promised us was scrapped. The whole thing redone. No alignment system, no sandbox, it was a series of quests and instances, nothing more. The community was outraged, they called them out on this, and Turbine responded "we wanted to emphasis fighting an adventure in Middle Earth, its more exciting than just living in it" and totally went against just about all the policies they had set up over the years. LotRO was one of the biggest fingers given to a community of dedicated fans since the Star Wars Galaxies NGE.
That being said, your ENTIRE point is invalidated. " |

If he had mentioned DF in his post, maybe. However, he is questioning you on LOTRO, not DF. Now please, stop dodging his question and answer him. I am a skeptical supporter of DF. They are, actually. Many people have completely lost their heads over this game. What sets them apart from other companies, in this respect, is the sheer number of people that have lost their common sense out of hate for this game. The fanbois are to be expected, every game gets those. I am a skeptical supporter of DF. I am not a fanboi nor a troll. I seek the truth in every discussion, and I am truly sorry if I mistakenly state a fallacy. |

Here is an interesting quote by the developer of one of this years top selling pc games: "So even though Galactic Civilizations II sold 300,000 copies making 8 digits in revenue on a budget of less than $1 million, it's still largely off the radar. I practically have to agree to mow editors lawns to get coverage. And you should see Jeff Green's (Games for Windows) yard. I still can't find my hedge trimmers." I actually found this quite surprising as I assumed that gaming sites proactively sought information to fill their websites. Obviously they are more in bed with the big publishing houses than I thought. |

they are playing it perfectly keep everyone talking with small shopped snips and reinacted "real game moments" till the fake beta and the presale. then start releasing more and more fake to keep the presales rolling then oops problem darn no release. But the good news is anyone we took money from will get a free beta invite and game item/time once we fix it. News game sold. And here we go again. If it smells like vaporware.................. Maybe to top it off in the next wave $oe will buy the name and release. |

They are playing it perfectly, except for the whole no pre-orders, so that only the investers could potentially lose money. Now, the investors are the local government, and they have actually (according to numerous sources that can't really be trusted, so don't hold me to this one) produced simulations for the greek government. So they did not rip off their investors, and have no system that would alllow them to rip us off. How are they making money off of this? I am a skeptical supporter of DF.
