First let's take a look at probably the best video out for Darkfall which I believe is fan made:
Then let's take a look at a fan made video from the beta of the upcoming Warhammer Online: mythicmktg.fileburst.com/war/us/home/flash/2008_03_VotM.html
I am certainly not a Warhammer Online fanboy by any means. I admit that I did love the PvP action in Mythics "Dark Age of Camelot" on their PvP servers Andred and Mordred. Now, while the video for Darkfall is more exciting and promises sooo much and probably makes it seem like every fantasy is gonna come true with the game, the Warhammer Online video just seems so much more authentic and much more believable. The Warhammer Online video kindof unimpressed me as I thought their graphics were better then what they looked like there. The supposed gameplay videos for Darkfall make Darkfall look far superior to be honest. But then again, you just get the feeling (or I do) that you're seeing something much more REAL with the Warhammer video. Watch both videos all the way through. I know most of you have already seen this DF video, but watch the Warhammer one all the way through as well. It's from March 08 beta I believe. The dragons fighting was actually pretty cool and a couple of other scenes as well. Which video do you guys think makes you actually believe the game is 'for real' ? Even if you don't think you'll like Warhammer much, can you see yourself playing it easier then you can see yourself playing Darkfall in January of 2009 ? Discuss. This thread was not started to become a flame war. Please discuss with respect and maturity to prevent this thread from being locked up in 10 minutes. I think this can definitely be an interesting topic. Also please vote on which video you like better and perhaps explain in your post if you decide to post.

Not only that, but Warhammer is backed up by an experienced mmo developer in Mythic Entertainment who has already put out arguably one of the best mmo games ever with DAoC and is now backed up by the monster game company "EA Games" with enough cash flow to feed every hungry child in the world for life basically. And Warhammer is having to take out some cities and stuff. What does that do for your confidence that a 15 man unheard of team or whatever can actually come through with all the amazingly never-seen-in- an-mmo promised features? Doesn't that seem just a little "too good to be true"? I will grant Adventurine this much. If they come out with an even half way stable game that has even HALF of its promised features, then Adventurine should be crowned as the best and most amazing mmo company ever and should have movies and books made about them for years! ..You know those kinda of "Disney" type movies that help people understand that "anything is possible" and "if you only wish upon a star" type crap. But really now. Compare what Warhammer is doing with sooo much talent and all the money and resources they need VS what Adventurine is trying to accomplish. Then seeing Warhammer having to have stuff cut out. Now look at Darkfalls promised features again. Use common sense now. Actually THINK people. Use your heads here. Magic may be inside these mmo worlds we play in, but how plausible is this in our REAL world now? Hmmmm?

Looked like 90% of the Darkfall video was still shots. The Warhammer one looked 100% in game |

Yeah, the DF video is a lot of still shots, some video, and a ton of text making claims that the author obviously cant know are true. I happened on this quote from Abe Lincoln the other day, and was reminded of it. It goes like this: "How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg? Four. Calling a tail a leg doesnt make it a leg." |

Darkfall has been in development a lot longer a lot longer then World of Warhammer, so yeah they probably won't have to cut as many features. Aside from that a few months back a list of features for Darkfall was announced as cut from the game by the staff, so yes cuts have been made to the game. You start out like so many claiming not to be a fanboy but the moment someone brings up a negative about Warhammer you immediately resort to insulting Darkfall as well as its production, so I guess you are a fanboy congratulations. But on to the subject of the two videos, we have video one, Darkfall. This video is old as dirt made mostly out of screen shots and footage that is older then Mythics undertaking to build Warhammer online. That video is very obviously a fan made video and is host on youtube of all places. Meanwhile the Warhammer video, that's video, is actual footage released by Mythic, not by fans. It is even hosted on Mythic's site for crapsake. I have no idea what you are trying to prove with your so called discussion but it comes off as nothing more then a sad attempt to troll these unfortunate Darkfall fans, who have nothing faith to keep them warm at night. P.S. I'm not a fanboy by any means either, but I have no patients for pointless trolling either. |

Most already know my stand lies somewhere in the middle. I would like to discuss this thing about small(indie) companies vs big name ones. Have you ever heard of the term Beauracracy? Just because a business is large, and has ample resources, does not mean the game is gonna be any good. Often times just the opposite. Big business is very inefficient, very often lacks decent communication between divisions. And has employee's far less dedicated to thier "job". If you have ever worked for a large corporation, or even the Government, you know exactly what I mean. Now it is not always the case. However, small companies often are the most innovative. Then, once they blow up, they begin to lose their creative edge. I am not saying this is the case here, and I know you are all gonna keep on, keeping on. I just think it is silly to say that since a company is small it can't make an innovative game. Lack of funding is probably the best argument here, but I personnaly would take a 25-30 man team with 20-40 million. As oppossed to 100-150 man team with 150 million dollars. None of this negates many of the other unknowns one could argue against DFO being a complete, or even near complete game. I just wanted to bring this issue up. |

In direct response to "Writh".....
I left a place for your vote "WTF why didn't you post "this" video. You are certainly welcome to post a link to any video that you think will outshine Warhammers beta video. As far as the Warhammer video being from the Warhammer website, ofcourse it is! I also went the the Darkfall website to look for a video there. All I found was screenshots and I think a place to "download" a video. I wanted an actual LINK to a playing video. So I had to resort to Youtube. I have seen many videos of Darkfall, and I think that the one I have posted is probably the fans favorite. But by all means, lets see your link to any Darkfall video that you think can top that of Warhammer. You claim not to be a Darkfall fanboy, but by your anger, you obviously are. Look dude, don't be angry by my videos comparing the two games. Warhammer Online is certainly competition that Darkfall will face. That's not my fault. And it's not my fault that you are pissed off or whatever because you can see that the Warhammer video obviously puts the best of your Darkfall to shame. I am just bringing up Darkfalls competition here to discuss. I can see what that does to you.

Originally posted by MaximumPvP WAR is a themepark MMO. DF is a sandbox MMO. Completely different stories, completely different crowds. There is a reason why EVE Online has so stable fanbase, because there are no games like it on the market. Same goes with Darkfall. There's obviously a lot more video footage of WAR, because they decided to do the beta with players. DF has a bunch of private and professional beta testers, who know what they are doing and rather spend their time searching for bugs, than for making fan videos. I can say, that WAR has better public relations. We all know that Mythic is not a first timer in the MMO business, so they can handle the crowd control. Mythic's DAoC was a great game, but WAR seems just too eager to get ready for the dinner table before the ham is cooked.

Your polls are abit wierd, they are based on your own opinion. Try to make them impersonal. And your threads value are the same. Based on your posts so far you don't like this game so much. |
