This can seen as both a good thing and a bad thing.

The good? There's really a game trying to come out. But I don't think many people actually doubt that there's a game. What they doubt is if it will ever come out and what shape it's really in. Even the person who visited has doubts about it ever coming out.

The bad??  Darkfall development is self funded. Self funding and MMORPG's simply don't mix good together. Especially one with DF's intended feature set. Just think how much money it took to make World of Warcraft's features and than think of people attempting to match WoW with self funding. An almost impossible feat.

Also , the current 2008 engine and screenshots appear similar to what she saw in 2006.

This is from an editor at woman gamers who visited Aventurine in Aug 2006 who I emailed to ask for some info.

I spent somewhere in the tune of 4 hours talking to the devs, and maybe 30 minutes actually looking at the engine.  So, I didn't get to see a lot of the complexities of the engine in action, just the combat, some of the zones and the mounts.  I haven't really been keeping up with the latest content, but as far as the graphics engine goes, it looks similar to the screenshots that are currently on their site.

Why do you ask?  I can assure you that after having seen a team of guys at computers working on in-game models and coding, as well as seeing someone ride around in the engine and chop off a few heads, it's not vaporware. They're paying for that office in Athens and that's not cheap.  It's not like a few guys in a garage blowing smoke-- it's very much a studio. 

The Darkfall guys are almost obsessively dedicated to making what they consider to be the perfect game, and since they are self-funded, I wouldn't be surprised if it takes them a long time to get the game out (or on the flipside, if they end up never being content enough to launch it).  Although I can't imagine anyone would fund years of MMO development without ever launching... that would be a massive amount of wasted money in salaries and rent.

I'm not sure what their status is today, but when I interviewed them they certainly had a burn rate and were going full speed ahead.  Seeing as how I don't see much updated on their site, and the fact that the news isn't updated frequently (although they did make a post in June), it's quite possible the funding issue bit them in the butt and they had to slow down.  I got the impression that the founder had money from a previous venture though-- he claimed to have enough to pay for the development without a publisher if they couldn't find one that was "hands off" enough.

But it's been several years now... and self-funding for that long is going to take a toll.  Who knows, I'm just speculating. 

Amazing that in an e-mail, she would say she saw the game, but in the article, she clearly states the only thing she did was talk to them for four hours in a conference room.

Nice try, but we've already dealt with that article before when fanbois tried to submit it as proof. The woman saw nothing, they took her in a room and talked.

By the way, you forgot to make the headers match on both the e-mails. Noob.

No, no Aventurine offices don't exist, the game doesn't exist, and womangamers is some fake site and that's a fake person invented by Tasos, right, RIGHT?

I am amazed how people suddenly discovered that Darkfall is "self-funded" (which only means that there's no other big company above that funds and controls the development, not that they're all piss poor as certain trolls try imply). It's been known for ages, e.g. from Tasos' posts. Why all these serious investigations to prove something the community has known since Aventurine was created?

I also don't understand why this is brought up as a "bad thing". EVE Online, the best MMORPG to date in my humble opinion, was also funded by its developers. Same with plenty of other indie games. You'd rather deal with the bullshit of EA & SoE? Great, go ahead and play SWG, such a great game with plenty of outside funding!

I'am not a DF fanboy. In fact I could care less if it comes out or not. And I actually think this is more harmful to DF than it is "good". But it's the facts as she says them to be.

I thought you had implied he was a DF fanboy making stuff up to defend the game and the article, when it was not. But I guess I was wrong. Regardless, instead of outright denying any possibility of it being true, I think it'd be in your best interests to confirm it instead.

OP have some serious problems. Why go through all this trouble making fake e-mails just to bash some coming MMORPG?

If this really is Polarization (teedle), i think you haters should really take a deeper look on what kind of work he is "capable" of  going through just to bash Darkfall and Aventurine.

So what's your point?

This is not confidential information.  She even said that she would be willing to email the DF devs and see if she can get a Q&A with them to check on the status of things.

I would post that email also.. but of course it's fake.

As for the headers, guys, do you even know how they work? They differ like that quite often if the person is using different computers/clients e.g. home/office. Not to mention you have all the means to check if he lies, but you'd rather just not try it in case he doesn't ;)

Oh, and yes it could be Polarization, there's not many people who would spend so much time "investigating", but in that case I am again amazed by his trouble to "prove" that the game is self-funded. Thanks Sherlock, I knew that since 2004.

Where is my pitchfork and torch!  Good lord, you guys are pretty rabid.  I might believe this was fake if it actually went over the top, but it doesnt.  Looks like it could easily be legitmate.  If you really cant take it, send an email.  If you want, send it via the feedback link at womengamers.

Actually, I just fired off an e-mail to { Mod Edit } with a link to this thread as well as copies of the "supposed" e-mails.

If these are indeed legit, did you ask the young lady if you could paste her e-mails all over cyberspace? I doubt it, and that is wrong. Anyway, guess we'll see if she's perturbed at you or not, as I'm sure she'll know who she was talking to if those are indeed from her.

I told her it was for a debate. And not using the email would just cause everyone to say it's fake.

The email is public info. You can get it just by using the contact form on the site.

She sent me a final email saying that she responded to a few of the people who wrote her to verify this.

So there you go.

But she wants her email removed because of spam so I edited out her email in my posts and will edit it out in the picture.

I suggest everyone else who quoted me with her email in it to edit it out.
