I dont know about you guys but while i like the idea of your gear dropping when u are killed I dont like the idea of permanant item decay, that will lead to you losing alot of gear if you do serious PvP not only will u drop it when killed and possibly lose it but then youll lose it all a some point even if never get looted let me know what you guys think

if nothing else it is realistic any real time weapon you buy requires more maint. the more you use it and eventually it will become beyond repair. The way to offset this in an MMO would be to make sure you can make back the money to buy a new one without having to suffer elsewhere because of it, if you can buy new stuff when the need arises and maintain the other areas of gameplay I dont much see a problem with it.

There is supposed to be permanent item decay and the aspect of losing your gear.  Its a game where your success is not measured by how many "shinies" you have   Its also not going to be a game where you spend 18 hours raiding to get one piece of end-all uber equipment that if you lose it will be devastating.  Its more dependent on actual player skill than most other MMOs on the market, not just picking an auto-shot button and letting your equipment and level win the battle for you

Its tough to get out of the mindset of the point of an MMO to be getting "shinies", but I am looking forward to this game, I think it will be very rewarding and extremely immersive when you are in to it!  Having amazing items that never decay or break or can be lost devalues crafters and doesn't really encourage interaction and cooperation as much, IMO.  But, to each his own!

I agree and I suppose that my final opinion on the issue will be how easy it will be to make quality weapons and armor because when i think of all player made weapons and armor my mind jumps to Asherons call II where the crafting system was nearly unworkable at release and I dident play the game for long because of it so as long as you are able to get decent equipment without grinding for hours for mats then I think the system will work out well

There needs to be permanent item decay so it creates another item 'sink.' Sinks allow tradesmen to sell more items, encourages regular npc hunting for drops which promotes p2p sales and best of all removes the 'epic' weapon trend.

Personally, I love it.  If you can get rezed and make it back to your corpse in time there is no problem.  If someone loots you well then too bad.  I just think back to old UO and I really enjoyed how that worked:)  Hope this is the same.

i think its very awesome. if they loot u just keep their name and later on hunt em down and kill them. take their stuff and maybe yours backya but it sorta is dissapointing that it could be an extreme set of armor or a weapon and u just lose it. but oh well i say it makes the game way better

Items will not have that great a value and , I have a feeling that a lot of corpses may go un-looted. strength of arm may build a reputation but ganking to steal worthless or standard loot may become seen as lame.

Really looking forward to this a lot, if it is skills that matter and people are not gaining mass rewards for kills just hardship and their are no leader or score tables or end game loot. Then acheivment will come through reputation and kingdom building.

"Life is a prison, Death a release"

I dont think this is a good idea, for Darkfall atleast. Because when you get killed you lose everything, so why have to spend money on repairing AND risking the fact that you can lose it all...

Played almost everything...
Currently playing nothing...
Waiting for: Darkfall, WAR, Guild Wars 2.

It is in though. Its in to make sure that a player needs to get new weapons periodically thus boosting the economy.

- you don't know how easy it is to be killed

- vast world , skill based,  items will help but won't be the end all...

- worrying before the event can't be healthy, precursory worrying will ruin your game experience.

Honestly, I like the idea of permanent weapon decay. It takes the emphasis off of gear, plus gives crafters a viable reason to exist. If everyone has to replace weapons and gear often, crafters will always be needed, plus the price of gear won't be either a) retardedly high from people hording leet gear, or b) worthless cause everyone has it already.

things like crafting materials will keep their worth, i.e. ores, leathers, wood, blah blah. There will actually be a reason to have crafting after 1 year of game release.

Decay helps to solidify the idea of weak items in DF. I for one don't want to get ownd every time I come up against someone with the Sword of 1337. If it takes item decay to limit the power of weapons, I'm fine wiht it. Also, I will guess that decay is very slow, and you can repair the items periodicly.
