Honestly, my first impressions of Free Realms from an Adult Perspective(only been playing for a few days) is that it isn't really even a full-on MMO. It's more like a Virtual World, like Second Life, or Gaia, wrapped in a MMO suit. Just a Casual World where you can walk around and socialize, and have all these activities and minigames that you can do for fun. as far as I can tell, even Combat is a "minigame" sort of activity. a 3D Facebook, so to speak, where the MiniGames are the "Facebook Apps". I wouldn't compare this game at all with any full-on MMORPG. It is a Social Media Network that imitates a MMORPG. in my opinion. and you know what? I'm good with that. Free Realms is good for what it is, but I wouldn't count on it for engrossing MMORPG play. when I want that, I'd look elsewhere. If I want to have a bit of casual fun, do some socializing and play some fun little minigames, I'd look at Free Realms. |

I share the exact same perspective. The thing about FR is that its nice to go in, and walk around, socialize and do some of the mini games and whatnot that are around. It's nice that it isn't hardcore and that I don't have to spend my entire day trying to do ONE thing. I can do many things in FR in a day. :P The other thing I love about FR is that being that its only $5 for a membership I can easily afford to subscribe to this and another MMO at the same time.

I believe the next step in MMOs is to get away from meaningsless questing and getting involved with more epic stories of bigger scales. I believe FFXI came too early. FFXI is an excellent example of a gameplay many new MMO players will appreciate very soon. I think most people are just getting tired of having it too easy during exploring, questing, and being able to solo and grind through 95% of the game. I`m sure very soon, more and more people will request a game where they are REALLY dependent on eachother THE WHOLE TIME, like in FFXI. The only problem with FFXI was that it didnt really get the population it really needed to funcion properly as it was intended. I`m totally possitive, that this is what the market needs next. A MMO where everyone around you is actually important to YOU as a player, and that you feel important to other players at all times, not just when you go into a dungeon or instance or whatever you want to call it. We need more challanges and a sense of meaning in the world we`re playing and the community we`re playing with.
