Coming to Tablets and Possibly Consoles

Jagex has announced that RuneScape will be making its debut for tablet gaming possibly as soon as winter 2013. In an interview with IGN, Mark Gerhard also indicated that the venerated game might also make the transition to consoles.

HTML 5 Runescape 3 Coming This Summer

Jagex has announced that Runescape 3 will be released in the summer of 2013. According the the press release, Runescape 3 will ship with an HTML5 engine, improved graphics, longer draw distances, new audio, new design features and world changing content updates as the game moves into a new age.

440k Subscribers Take Part in 'Old School' Poll

The RuneScape team has announced that voting in the most recent poll has closed with over 440,000 subscribers taking part in just over two weeks' time. The poll asked players if they would be interested in an 'old school' server that would bring back the 2007 version of RuneScape. The response? An overwhelming "YES".

Happy 12th Anniversary

RuneScape is celebrating its twelfth anniversary this very day. The original opened on January 4, 2001, almost a lifetime ago in some ways. The team is promising that 2013 will bring even more gameplay enhancements and they are planning an ambitious year.

A Stray in a Manger Holiday Event Announced

RuneScape devs have announced the 2012 holiday event for players. Called "A Stray in a Manger", the quest arc charges players with assisting Santa' Snow Imp in rounding up stray dogs to help deliver pet presents. After the event concludes, players will be able to adopt one of the strays and earn a special kennel for their effort.

Player Events Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

RuneScape clans have banded together to raise awareness for breast cancer research by donning pink for the month of October. Thousands of players are sporting pink hair, clothing, armor and more. Players also participated in a walk across the Gielinor game world.

Botters Beware!

Jagex has announced a new initiative aimed at stopping the activities of rampant RuneScape botters. Players caught using a bot program will be warned twice along with having their avatar altered to show their guilt. If they refuse to change, they will be banned to a new location called "Botany Bay" where they will be judged by their fellow players.

The NYPost is reporting that 19-year old Humza Bajwa has been arrested and charged with second degree robbery following the alleged robbery of 4.7 RuneScape coins from Fordham University student David Emami.
