On news that Double Fine Productions new adventure made more than $1 million in fan funding in only 24 hours and still going for next 29 days, Obsidian Entertainment is first in line to consider tapping to the same scheme. Now, if they are sincere in there intentions like Double Fine and there founder and gaming legend Tim Schafer, thats fine, no, it is more than fine, it is great. We are possible witnessing evolution in game development, where gamers matter and we are not just cash machine to gaming industry. It would be nice to have some saying in development of games, would that be in financial funding, constructive advices or ideas. Is there any long term future in this kind of scheme or it will be dismissed and short lived. I for one am hoping this is for a long run.

You're still cash machines. In fact, you're financing a project that does not even exist yet, and unlike real investors, you won't be making your money back.  With that being said, projects are more likely to being more oriented towards what the gamers want, rather than what investors want *cough cough* WoW *cough*, so in that sense it's definitively a positive thing. You're still cash machines though :þ

Maybe, time will tell.
