Star Wars: The Old Republic News

Latest Headlines for Star Wars: The Old Republic

  • But Everyone Else Was Doing It Too!

This week, Star Wars: the Old Republic put in a patch that had a fairly large number of tweaks to the game, mostly a lot of bugfixes and updates to various group activities such as changing which comms drop and rebalancing certain encounters. Sadly, however, much of these things were not the topic of many conversations about the game the past few weeks.

  • Three Things We Want from SWTOR in 2015

Star Wars: The Old Republic may never live up to the lofty expectations many had for it before it launched back in 2011, but the game seems pretty healthy despite all the initial setbacks. 2015 is a new year and with a new year comes new possibilities. Let's take a look at some things we'd like to see in SWTOR this year.

  • Was Forged Alliances Really Necessary?

In their prelude to their current expansion, Shadow of Revan, Star Wars: the Old Republic spent five months giving us new big-picture epic content via four Flashpoints collectively known as Forged Alliances. I spent an afternoon playing all four of them back to back on solo mode now that it's possible to do so and have been left with some questions that remind me of another big-name scifi franchise's first movie: Is this all that there was? Was there nothing more?

  • Shadow of Revan - Final Thoughts

On December 2nd, early purchasers of the Shadow of Revan expansion were granted access to two things: the new content that was being added for the $20 purchase of the expansion pack, and the new skills and streamlined combat systems. For people who have played SWTOR in the past and are just curious about the new discipline system, I'd recommend just logging in and trying it for yourself.

  • Shadow of Revan RIP #2 - New Planets

Introducing new environments to explore is a staple of MMORPG expansion packs, and Shadow of Revan does not disappoint. After the prologue missions, the new content kicks off on the relatively obscure planet of Rishi, home to some interesting looking bird folk and a whole lot of pirate business. Bioware reached way back and dipped into the classic trilogy for the second planet (or rather moon), Yavin 4, recognizable to fans as the home base to the Rebellion in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

  • Shadow of Revan Review In Progress #1

Since the first official announcement of Star Wars: the Old Republic, BioWare Austin has not been shy about letting its audience know that story is one of the main pillars that they felt was missing from the MMORPG space. A bulk of their effort developing the game went into creating a richly-told, voice acted story that would ease the pain of the traditional level grind.

  • The Value of 12X Class XP

With the launch of early access for Shadow of Revan on Tuesday, Star Wars: the Old Republic retired a subscriber perk that had allowed hordes of filthy casuals like myself to finally get through each class story and have a character at the now-previous level cap. Today's article is about that perk and whether it ultimately had value to the game.

All players will have access to this new content.

  • The New Discipline System Primer

The latest expansion pack for Star Wars: The Old Republic has arrived, and with it the game is graduating to version number 3.0. One of the banner features of the upgrade, although not specifically tied to the expansion pack, is the new method for dealing with skills: Disciplines.

  • Revan Hinted to be the Start of Focus on Story

IGN has a new interview with Bioware's Jeff Hickman. In the article, he indicates that if Star Wars: The Old Republic players like what they're seeing in Shadow of Revan, they won't be disappointed when they see what 2015 will bring to the game's story.

  • Shadow of Revan - A Look at Flashpoints

With a little more than two weeks before Shadow of Revan launches, Bioware and publishing partner EA invited the press and select members of the SWTOR community to EA's Redwood Shores offices for a peek at the expansion. Though the event was in some ways a retread of previously released information, we were given some hands-on time with the new solo-able Flashpoints.

  • Changes Coming for Troopers & Bounty Hunters

Two blog posts have been published on the Star Wars: The Old Republic site laying out big advanced class changes for both the Mercenary and the Commando. They also announced three tiers of rewards based on the Rating players will acquire during the season of play. Today, we'll take a look at the game's PVP options and see where the fun is.

  • Shadow of Revan - a First Look in to SWTOR’s Future

We were invited to a first look at Shadow of Revan, the new expansion for Star Wars: the Old Republic. In it, players tackle the galaxy-threatening Revan in the third installment of his centuries-spanning story. The event focused primarily on the game's story and future content rather than the nuts and bolts of any new game systems.

  • Revan is Coming

Star Wars: the Old Republic 3.0 has been formally announced, and it's proof that BioWare Austin is very fond of the letters S and R and the word 'shadow'. Shadow of Revan promises to bring even more story to the almost three-year-old MMO, as players get to hopefully sink their teeth into what is the end cap of the video game trilogy focusing on an era in galactic history where he was pretty much the central lore figure.

  • Crafting and Galactic Strongholds

We've all been trained long enough by the folks at BioWare Austin to remember that they'll tell us when they tell us and there isn't much we can do to hurry the process up. So I'm going to be constructive and cover some of the basics of how Galactic Strongholds has finally given crafters something relatively meaningful to do since the advent of the massive glut of orange moddable gear.

This past Tuesday, Community Manager Eric Musco and Lead Writer Charles Boyd took to the game's official Twitch channel to run through the Flashpoint and revealed who the big bad of that expansion might very well be.
