Star Wars: The Old Republic News - Imperial Agent Class Revealed!

Posted by Michael Bitton on Nov 06, 2009  | 38 comments in our forums

The Imperial Agent has been revealed as the sixth class for Star Wars: The Old Republic at a recent European press event. Today, the new class has been officially confirmed on the Star Wars: The Old Republic forums, with its HoloNet entry to be published next week.

In addition to today's confirmation, IncGamers has the very first set of screenshots of the Imperial Agent, which you can view here.

Below you'll find the official description of the Imperial Agent  by Star Wars: The Old Republic Community Manager Sean Dahlberg:

The Imperial Agent is heavily inspired by several classic Star Wars characters such as Zam Wessel and Grand Moff Tarkin. Imperial Agents work behind the scenes to get the work of the Empire done. Specializing in high-tech gear, the Imperial Agent always has the right tools at the right time. They use abilities of subversion and subterfuge to infiltrate and assassinate enemies of the Sith Empire with deadly efficiency. Players who choose to be Imperial Agents in The Old Republic (TOR) will see the underbelly of the Empire in a whole new light.

This leaves two more classes to be unveiled. What do you think they will be? And what do you think of the Imperial Agent? Let us know in the comments below!

Myself.. All of the classes revealed are interesting. I think they are creating a game in which each class will be played by a large majority. Creating re-playability in an MMO is a great asepect. There is a possibility that things will be linear but in completly different ways. I am excited about this one....

Agreed... but highly doubt they would limit the character slots. By creating a diverse experience for each class.. they would shot themselves in the foot by keeping the playerbase from making a character from each class.

IMO

I'd be surprised if there was a true caster class.

Sounds awesome.  I'm one of the many as some would claim who is going with a Jedi main but I'm hopeful as others have mentioned they don't limit the characters per server.  Most games as I understand have done this mostly due to pvp reasons.  My only experiences off hand with this are SWG and DF as I can recall.  And as others have stated it would be kind of like shooting themselves in the foot by making a story based game and then limiting the players ability to see as much of the story as possible.

I expect there to be some form of Sith Lord in the game (I.E. force user focused on force powers as opposed to martial combat like the Sith Warrior) . Of course, I'm just speculating here. :)

Agreed, im sure it will be possible to skip the weaponry parts of the jedi/sith skill trees and focus on pure force mastery.

But what I don't want to see is people having to rely on buffs like in SWG for pvp standing around spamming " I need a buff".

These people working on the game are cutting out all that BS and flat out going to make the most UBER game for the next DECADE!

They had also mentioned about having crafting, hope Crafters and Entertainers aren't one of the up and coming classes.

Hope this crafting systems is new and inventive and also not have to rely on other players. Just my thoughts others may like

that kind of game play.  I could be totally wrong and the next two classes ..... to use the terms Casters for a class in this game just seems totally wrong.  Seems to me like all the classes are pretty darn close in able to kick azz and take names so as for the next two will be equal in power also... nothing that is overpowering will throw the whole game out of whack. Anyway can't wait to play and hope to see all of you in the NEAR FUTURE!!!!

Just got back from it, I didn't hear about the agent as much as I was hearing about the Jedi Consular and a Sith Inquisitor,  I'm surprised they're not officially announcing them.  Everybody there heard about them.

I'm guessing they're the Caster force users, like Yoda and Palpatine.

Unlike SWG, there shouldn't be Medics.  They want a game that better reflects the films.  There were no living medics ever in the films and thus are leaving such mundane tasks for droids.  Will there be exceptions?  Maybe for exspansions.

I think the posters mention of "casters" is pretty on the mark.  We shall wait for the announcement.

I was hoping for some sort of class which would allow us to expiriance Grand Moff Tarkin and Zam Weasel-like ways. I am really excited that they mentioned these two classes, though I though Zam was a Bounty Hinter? it makes sense I suppose. I just hope in an expansion or something, we can play into the Grand Moff class. But as for the next two classes, I would think the caster class is the way to go. Man thing the sith and jedi could have combat trees like in WoW and that ma be, et BioWare keeps referring to these classes as melee classes. I can't wait to see what they come up with next!!!

i hope they don't put a medic class in. instead they should do casters next and give them secondary healing abilities, i would go with a heal for jedi and a siphon health for sith.

Nifty, now to hope they publicly post footage of it unlike the trooper gameplay video which was stuck in the PAX demo.

Wonder if this class will be as entertaining as spy was in SWG.

I expect it will be better looking by the time it comes out. As I'm sure you're aware, this is not the finished product. Besides you could say the same about WoW and that game has 11 million subscribers doesn't it?

BH and Trooper are most likely the "Casters", if you can even call it a caster seeing as this isn't a fantasy MMO. I see a Medic being next. Remember this isn't the films so there could well be medics.

If you want this game to be like WoW you're in for a rude surprise.  Bioware would never put out a cut and paste copy of a game.  If you like WoW so much I don't recommend you ever leave it.

Trust me, I'm not in for another WoW, I was thinking aloud. For the record, I left WoW months ago and am eagerly awaiting a SWTOR. (currently playing Aion).

.... this looks and sounds awesome!  As for the other classes left, I'm guessing Medic is one of them since a lot of their classes are just copying the ones that SWG has.  Smuggler, Spy, Jedi, BH, Commando (trooper)... so I'm guessing Medic.  I doubt they'll copy entertainer.

as someone else mentioned my (SPECULATION) is that each class will have advancement and further specialization akin to what is found in KOTOR and Dragon Age. Meaning (again speculation) that you would start as a jedi then around maybe level 10 or something you choose either guardian, counselor or sentinel and have specific quests, trainers and story line develop from those. Of course the choice would also include a smaller set of specialized abillities that makes you identifiable as that Jedi arch type.  You would retain core Jedi abillities to choose from probably duel wield specializations, defense and offense mods etc. It really isn't all that different than the WoW trees and it gives the abillity to make 8 classes seem like 24 if done correctly. I find that route most believable because it is Biowares signature in recent games and they are going to use more than cut scene, voice over acting and player plot choices to put the familiar Bioware stamp on the game.

As for what the last two would be?  My guess is that they will include the ranged attack pet user like pet handler for light side and droid engineer (droid pet user) for dark or something like that. Pet users are a pretty unviersally excepted and adored class type.

My dream would be a straight up droid class and a pure caster type. I'm not super up on all the cannon and lore for star wars and maybe magic outside of the force does not exist. But I swear I remember one or two mentioned in the darth bane series but it was awhile since i read book one and two.

It could either be a Medic type or perhaps a Doctor.....atleast that's what I think it might be
