Star Wars: The Old Republic News - The Story of the Sith Warrior

Posted by Michael Bitton on Oct 02, 2009  | 10 comments in our forums

This week's Friday Update is a Developer Blog entitled "The Story of the Sith Warrior". As you might imagine, we learn about what went into the process of writing the story for the Sith Warrior class.

Star Wars: The Old Republic writer Neil Pollner describes the Sith Warrior's story:

You begin the Sith Warrior story as the apprentice of one of the most powerful Sith Lords in the Empire. Yes, you serve him, as Vader served the Emperor, but he knows that you are at your best and most powerful the more you can flex your muscles. As long as your master’s ultimate directives are met, you are encouraged to entertain your every impulse and do as you please.

Unbound and unleashed on the galaxy, you wage war against the Jedi, relentlessly hunting and neutralizing their most powerful and important players. You can leave an indelible darkness on every planet you visit or find less wanton routes to your goals, as you eliminate rivals, acquire your own minions and build your personal power base.

The enemies of the Sith quickly realize that you are the real threat that cannot be ignored. Other Sith you encounter and confront come to revere and revile you, as much as—if not more than—your master. And eventually, the Emperor himself may take notice of your exploits.

Where is this all leading? That’s up to you. You can serve dutifully and pound away by the letter of your master’s law, or you can risk plotting to someday destroy him and grab his power (as Vader reveals in his plea for Luke to join him). You can even have secret designs to redeem yourself, embrace the light and destabilize the Empire from within.

Personal power base? Very cool.   Especially if you can design it ala Grevious' base style.

I don't think they are talking about building a structure, but more referring to your power circle. Your followers.

Thus far this is the class I intend to play for my main character. I cannot say for certain because there are more classes to be released but it is certain I will likley start on the Imperial side of things. I'm a little tired of playing the hero, it's time to be the villain. I am inclined to believe that I will excell at it after all each and every one of us has a dark side. I look forward to playing with the mean kids.

Is English Neil's first language? There's some very strange phrasing and grammar choices in there, which made it difficult for me to follow.

That said, it certainly sounds interesting. How much of that actually translates into the game remains to be seen. Being Bioware, I'm not inclined to simply blow it off as marketing speak as I would with most.

Hate to drop any negitivity on this hyped upcoming title but don't the graphic look more kiddie than WoW?

Also, I am very woried about EA being the boss here. Look what happend to Warhammer.

I just hope this one delivers that's all.

You should really check out the Video posted here on the site.  While the NPCs are rather...Clone Warsish looking, the actually game and background looks amazing.  If you catch the one of the BH stepping out into Nar Shadda, the city looks amaizng, so much detail.

And it is a very valid concern to worry about EA.  But, don't forget.  This is Bioware.  They are not going to be pushed around like Mythic was, since War was almost shut down before EA stepped in, thus changing that game A LOT.

I think everyone wants the game to deliver.  Especially since it's star wars, and the past few games have been...mehhhhhhhhhhhh.

Yes, English is his first language. The guy writes dialog every day. He's trained to write like he speaks. If you're having trouble understanding what he wrote, it might help you to read it aloud to yourself.

The graphics are far more impressive than WoW's. WoW gives humans an abormally large head and all races look relatively similar. I don't think this will be the case with TOR. And I'd be more worried about what LA might do thatn EA. Just because EA's involved doesn't mean they're going to risk another MMO fudge up. People learn from their mistakes just as major companies do. Warhammer has cost more than it's made, but it's also not a bad game.

What's bad is the initial hype it acquired prior to release.
