But I can speak for me in the fact I want a wide open world. To explore and have alternative things to do in it. Red Dead Redemption is one of my favorite all time games and it has missions or "quests" which are well done, but there are tons of other things I can do and explore. I want a wide world. I typically only play those types of games. I deplore linear stuff. Which is why I typically like mmos along with other games. I dont care that its an mmo. I care that it has a wide open world full of experiences. Thats all I give a darn about.
Swtor? I played the Beta and it seemed far too linear to me. It had open worlds, but just BARELY so. Barely at all. So it didnt appeal to me. I sometimes wonder if thats why mmo fans love the genre so much. Its the case for me anyways. Linearity needs to die. I dont want a set path. I want to forge my own and Ive played way too many games like Oblivion and others that give me that. The first open world experience I had was? Ultima Online. I freaked. I CAN GO PLACES AND DO WHATEVER I WANT! I freaked as a kid.
Thats what mmo's and games in general are to me. I dont care if its an mmo. I want an open world. SWG from what I hear definitely had that. I think the reason people want what they call a sandbox, is because of that reason. They want a truly open world. You can have that with set quests as long as there are other things to do. It doesn't really have to be a sandbox entirely.
If you make a linear and I mean.....very linear mmo like Swtor, its a turn off to many. All I saw of that game were paths with about 50 yards of space on either side to explore. Thats it. Thats not an open world. Thats just rediculous and a poor attempt at one. |

Originally posted by Corehaven Yeah, I agree with everything you said. I would just add that I would like a world to have something for every level, so it's not just the lvl 20-25 at this map and so on. SWG also had that, I believe... |

Originally posted by MuratReis There was more level diversity per planet as a whole, but it wasn't perfect.. Pre-CU Tatooine, for example, was a dangerous place if you went more than 150 meters from the cities as a newish character. In the open desert you could be killed by Sand People spawns that were often close to low level spawns (or your low level mission you pulled from the terminals). If you traveled to Fort Tusken, it was tough even for master combat classes in the lower levels. That was the playability part level-wise, because you could pull a mission and it was the CR of the most combat skilled character in the group. So you could go to most planets and pull missions for your level. If it was one of the dangerous planets though, the random spawns had to be carefully avoided (Tuskens, Rancors, Nightspiders, etc.). Same for harvesting, you had to watch where you went but it could be done. You want to throw away your money developing something stupid, go ahead. |

Originally posted by ignore_me There was a rumor that SOE might be upgrading SWG with a non Star Wars skin then release it back F2P. No real creditability to that but a rumor I got from a guy that works in SOE's Playstation division. He also said that SOE and LA stayed in closed door talks through last August but reasons unknown to him, nor were there any inside rumors why. They kept it very tight lipped. Rumors are just that though and I would think if it was true that something would of leaked by now. I don't know if LA will allow a SWG2 or not with as much a scar as NGE gave them. +1 to crossed fingers though. |

True. That's not a bad thing, though. Another great thing about SWG is that you could go out on group hunts and kill a bunch of high level stuff and get lots of XP. Good memories.... |

Bardus, here's one question: Why did Gordon Walton leave? Please ask your source that. |

Originally posted by MuratReis Oh I liked it way better. Well you could, but you had to have your head on a swivel. You want to throw away your money developing something stupid, go ahead. |

Originally posted by Bardus Your 'guy' must not like his job. The reason I say that, I know quite a few 'guys'that work the video game industry, one of whom I went to high school with, and all he can/will tell me about anything he does at work is that he works for blizzard entertainment. I can not imaginbe SOE is any more loose with their employee policies. That, or the guy is just blowing smoke up your...well you get it, to get you to leave him alone. Either way, I find it incredibly hard to believe that even SOE would re-skin that game and try to re-release it. Granted they have done some insane things to games in the past, but I really can not see this going down. |

Originally posted by Hatefull Pure speculation and he said that too but he did act serious about the closed door talks. Apparently everyone was trying to get the scoop on it. Could of been anything from SWG2 to finalizing closing SWG to Clone Wars, who knows. |

I wish I could say the same, but I like playing games, and, unfortunately, they seem to own most of them |

After much consideration, I think most of the problems SWG & TOR experienced were due to LucasArts and its greed. The new mantra for LA is to cut corners, do it on the cheap, and try to make a cash cow. http://www.youtube.com/user/nagilumsadow |
