So? Still doesnt negate the fact that the game is a shallow, linear, pseudo-WoWclone COORPG

How many people watch Survivor or American Idol?

The shows are still crap no matter how many watch it.

Tried: EQ2 - AC - EU - HZ - TR - MxO - TTO - WURM - SL - VG:SoH - PotBS - PS - AoC - WAR - DDO - SWTOR
Played: UO - EQ1 - AO - DAoC - NC - CoH/CoV - SWG - WoW - EVE - AA - LotRO - DFO - STO - FE - MO - RIFT
Playing: Skyrim
Most MMOs are crap and the future looks bleak.

I sincerely hope you're joking.

This isn't some marketing ploy or a press release.  This is a public earnings statement being made to the investors, has been through auditors, and is reviewed by the SEC.  These numbers are real.

Also, to the person who said the numbers for SW:TOR were through the end of December, no, re-read the article... it says those numbers are through "a little over one month"... meaning since the game launched at the end of December, those numbers are reflective of their subs at the end of January (i.e. yesterday).

Both of you fail at sarcasm....I mean common, ZizouX's post was so obvious.

THANK YOU!!!!

Internet sarcasm is hard.

Well at least there is now a statement from EA which is something I was hoping to see.

I'll admit that if 1.7 million of just over 2 million sales subbed for the first "actual pay to play month".. I am pretty suprised.

Its good for the MMO market... investors aren't overly encouraged to continue investing if games fall flat.

Not really happy with the game but good for EA and their employees.

*edit* grammar thing.

Normally I'd agree with you, but given all of the hate I read about this game on MMORPG.com, sometimes I have to assume that it's not sarcasm, but in fact just pure hatred and lack of common sense!

I guess, but when someone says that he only gets his numbers from Xfire, it's a dead giveaway.

Generated does not mean retained.  I could "generate" 5 million subscribers over 3 years, but only have 200 active subscribers currently.

The report is worded very ambiguously.  First they say it's for Q4 2011 (Dec. 31st), then they mention the "a little over one month" figure.  I'm not really sure what they mean, but knowing how companies report to investors, they are probably wording the report so that it shows them in the most favorable light.

That can also be read that the "in little over one month" is referring to only the units sold.  As in 1.7 million subs. 2 million units sold in over a month.  The in little over one month does not have to apply to both.  It can, but does not mean it has to.

Mine feels like that as well, but I suspect it's because (1) the mad rush to level is dying down, (2) people are playing less insane hours as a result, and (3) I'm still only level 25 (very casual player here) so most of the initial rush is several planets beyond me.

Space Slug seems to be getting busier.  I do agree they need to at least add a option to transfer from a low population server to a higher one.  They need to figure out how legacy would transfer but that shouldn't be to hard.

according to this people seem to be migrating to about 20 servers.. so guess if you are in one of those you probably saw a population jump

Figures. Explains a lot. Thanks for the link.

To activate the game you had to add a subscription I think?

But doesn't it also say that the report is for Q4 2011?  I just don't understand the time frames for all these numbers.  No where do they say "as of 2/1/2012, SWTOR has more than 1.7 million active subscribers."

Once again, not trying to hate...I just know how companies operate.  They will try to portray themselves in a favorable light, so I don't believe anything on a financial report that can't be absolutely "nailed down."  I do believe that at some point they had 1.7 million active subs though...I don't think they would outright lie.

I guess those 1.7 mil people are not MMO-FO's.

Try to argue this please.

Oh also if you quote me and it's to argue my point, if I don't respond it means I haven't been corrected by you and/or I haven't seen it. Remember I don't mind admitting I am in the wrong. Take care :D

"Fourth Quarter Fiscal Year 2012 Expectations -- Ending March 31, 2012 "

I like this for the idiots that think EA's 3rd quarter end at the end of january.  So the 4th quarter for EA is only two months...2 is a fourth of 12?...nope EA's 3rd quarter ended 12/31/11.

Yeah, this.

If the numbers were faked, EA would be in actual legal trouble. These are real numbers since they have to be independently audited and presented to the SEC on a quarterly basis.

When our company issue report like this, we do it the same way. We have concrete number till the end of the quarter. However, the user base would be currect as the date the report is issued.

That number is derived from the highest possible number for that quarter (Q4/11). And yes, that's how they all operate.

That number has gone way down since then, just like every other MMO except for WoW in its hayday.
