I agree.  I purchased the deluxe  digital download for my wife and I.  I think it's a slap in the face that we don't get some features that we spent our hard earned money on.

If you spend money on a game, that content shouldn't just "disappear".  This is one of the worst F2P models I've ever seen.

When you bought the box you knew to get everything you had to pay a sub. That has not changed. The only ones that should be slapped in the face are those who can't comprehend this. Its not free enough argument for any game is just sad.

At risk of calling this post moronic, I'll just say that I (like the many who bought the game at launch and were screwed), disagree with you completely.

Well it is hard to reason with those with the "I'm entitled for everything for free" crowd. So you keep crying stuff is not free enough the rest of us mature grown adults will continue to play and enjoy the game.

At first I thought I hadn't read the OP correctly, then I realized that this guy wants all the perks of a sub without having to pay a sub just because he had a one-month sub back in the day. Dude. If you want the perks of a sub....get a sub. That's how you got them before, remember?

I want everything without paying for it! Sheesh, just pay for the sub, it's $0.50/day.

When you bought the box way back at launch you knew you had to pay around £10 a month did you not? Back at release if you bought the box but then refused to pay the monthly fee you were able to play precisely none of the game, correct?

Now they have made quite a large amount of the game free to play and youve somehow lost something?

Either go back to paying the monthly amount and get everything you initially had, and more, or dont pay a penny and still play a lot of the game for nothing. But dont tell me that by not having to pay a penny and still being able to play you are somehow screwed out of anything at all. Unbelievable.

I subscribed for one month, used the credits I had saved up from when I last played to buy all the unlocks and can now virtually play for free.  The only expense are weekly passes for flashpoints and warzones, but they are about 150K on the GTN so it's possible to keep up with those easily enough as well as it doesn't take long to earn that amount of money on a 50+ character.

There is a disconnect here between people who believe the game should be free to play and those who think it should be free to try. The game was such a colossal failure that they were forced to go free to play. At that point they shouldn't expect to be able to push a free to try but you have to pay to really play the game model and that is what this game has. At every single turn they beg you for money in this game, probably the worst FTP model of any game I've played.

The game is now free to download, and free to play. I believe if you paid for the retail version, you should get more than your standard free to play patron. This is not a hard concept to grasp... I'm not asking for something for nothing, so stop pretending like I am. I believe this game, like any other, should reward us in the same manner. My personal preference is to never play this game again...that's just me. You can continue to leave irrelevant comments to contradict my stance, but rightfully so... They will fall to deaf ears.

The fact of the matter is that a player who has purchased a retail copy does get access to more then a run of the mill, free to play player.

You can read for yourself: http://www.swtor.com/free/features

Having played as free to play, preferred and a subscriber I can say that the difference between free to play and preferred is actually quite large. Having recently come back to the game I was actually happy to subscribe as I'm growing tired of the free to play model. For me that is a personal choice much like yours is to leave the game.

Yeah when I played I looked at the free to play vs preferred and instantly bought 1 month of play so I'd get to keep preferred. It was cheap and made a huge difference. However if you want to stick with the game preferred isn't really enough, at some point you are going to have to subscribe. That isn't even the biggest issue though, it is the wide range of restrictions and how they throw them in your face constantly that bothers me. The cash shop should live in the background, not be thrown in your face constantly.

I want an mmorpg where pvp matters, my enemies are not my race or class, and community matters.

When SWToR launched, I bought the box with the required one month sub and enjoyed it quite a bit, but decided to quit like the majority of the players back then. Reading the forums here about the new patch made me interested in starting again, so I went ahead and downloaded the game and logged in to create a new character.
I wanted to roll a Chiss (species) Bounty Hunter, but this species is locked, only subscribers or cartel coin buyers can unlock this species. When the game was P2P this species was readily available for BH. For me this is just a slap in the face for a returning player, old subscriber. If you want people to play your game again, why would you create a barrier even before logging in to the actual world?

I understand that F2P players should be limited in their gameplay to some extent but even limiting character races that were available to you before is a bad move for returning players and for me personally it made me shut down the game again.
Don't know if this has been discussed before but I really felt let down, it was a real surprise for me.

You cant even make a new account.  The game isn't supported.  This should have told you something - no offense.

No matter how well you sugar coat it,asking for something that no one else gets IS asking something for nothing.

There's nothing contradictory about it. You're angry because the game doesn't treat you like a special snowflake for buying the game and posters are calling you on it. If you don't care to hear negative opinions then don't start threads.

Thats awfully passive aggressive.

The F2P model is bad. Asking for it to be improved isn't bad.

Oh yes they owe me!

Being EA customer for almost 20 years, and Bioware fan since their early times, growing up on Star Wars saga, they owed me a good game they promised!

Preordering game, advertising it to all friends, subscribing one whole year to a horrible, unfinished game, that was full of bugs, exploits, lack of content, and even basic functionalities (just remember auction on release, without even a search, and unfunctional flters, lack of combat log, ui customization, all the other things), whole zones being shut down etc. etc. They owe me for playing all this time, still trusting them and hoping they will deliver in future what they promised to delivere long ago. They should give free lifetime access to all game content to EVERYONE who survived the mess they delivered on release and who kept supporting them till they went f2p. They would have done that if they had any shame, but they dont. If they did have shame, they wouldnt deliver something so horriible and disappoint so many people, and still act like nothing was wrong.

Their 'F2P' model doesnt deserve comment. Compare it to Rift or any similar game... or better dont, you will be even more angry at EA. I am pissed at them for ruining game that had so much potential, and for being shameless greedy f***s. I am now playing other games and I try to repress my memories of my SWToR time, just like a rape victim would. Cause thats what happened to all of us who played before f2p, we were raped by EA.

First your not ENTITLED to anything for free. They dont owe you anything a matter of fact you owe them $15/month if you want everything. Second any grown adult that admits they have to try and repress memories of a video game needs to either stop playing video games or get some serious help. Third we have the same ones copy/pasting the same lies about a video game they don't play but having a grown adult feel they are ENTITLED to everything for free that ea owes them something that they have to try a repress memories of a video game and compare it to rape is just sick. You need some serious help buddy, how have they not deleted your pathetic post yet?

You could not roll a Chiss Bounty Hunter at launch. Only way would be to level a Chiss Imp to 50 then it would unlock. I think it's still like that.

I'm enjoying the prolific use of the term "Grown Adult" in your posts. Be careful though, these guys will ban you for excessive trolling.

The whole Free-To-Play thing is a lie....it should be called Free-To-Try with restrictions but then no one would try it because they feel everything in life is owed them. Where did this attitude come from that you shouldn't have to pay anything to play a game? How do you think these companies are going to stick around offering free gameplay?

The thing with SWTOR is that some of the stuff that is being charged for is stupid and unnecessary. With STO I can play that more freely in F2P, but then more willing to pay for stuff as its F2P is reasonable.

SWTORs is worse because they need the money, as they are not getting enough to lighten things - not enough people are spending on SWTOR, but I bet if they did lighten things they probably would get more people buying stuff if that was the case, they obviously can not be willing to risk it.

Ah. Yes more lies from you. Swtor has more players on their lowest server on one side then sto has total. I proved you wrong on your last lie why not just give up and move on dude.

Agree fully with you. And have suggested few times would be interesting if some psychologist elaborate what drives some people to this constantly. They spend a good chunk of their life time on hating and bashing something they do not play. Well ... there have been however many times rumors about somebody get paid for this. Like some paid reviews.

About STO, it is awful to play. Would not play (again) if they pay me. Swtor is fantastic game where every button does exactly what is supposed to do. Game is rich in everything. Said this does not mean there is no room for improvement.

And must add here StarTrek as for lore and movies goes is my 1st love of all times. Only after comes SW saga (but still very high). However I do not see anything to compare between this 2 games.

Chiss Bounty Hunter is playable if you are subbed. F2P players obviously don't get all the choices a sub gets.
