Probably not the best place to get that kind of info.  The poster above says it is dead, however the poster below me might say it's fine.  If you glance at the server status however, most seem to stay light throughout the day.

Surely there is a way to try it out which is what I recommend.  They give free time to anyone these days.

There's only 1 med server in Europe, that's TOFN, and it's on its last legs, dead within a couple of weeks.

The rest of the servers are empty.

its doing fine - naturally you have a lot of trolls and haters in here - facts are its still the 2nd most played MMO on the market so I guess any game not named WoW is dead to these trolls on here.

WoW is dull and old, only people afraid of change and stuck in a rut play WoW.

SWTOR is dead, completely dead. Bear in mind I used to play it and still check the servers as everyone has free time right now.

I'm playing and enjoying Tera right now. All I can say is it puts SWTOR to shame in every way apart from voiceover and storyline. The PVE is better, the PVP is better, the engine isn't broken and the gameplay is actually fun. SWTOR has none of those things, 1.2 made things worse, and the game is in the crapper because of it.

I'm not particulary distressed by SWTOR's death because the clueless developers were real arrogant ****heads and the the way the game was managed and marketed with lies upon lies and mistake after mistake, it made me realise that I can get angry at seedy, crap companies like EAware.

I worry that by the time I play the game, (bought it at launch, didn’t install) the servers will be empty, but I just don’t have time to get into it right now. Maybe after free character transfers or server mergers I’ll try it, I was hoping I could wait a year, but I see less future with this mmo than any other, as the non-story content doesn’t stand out compared to other mmos coming out. Tera's combat, TSW's pvp and ARGs, Wildstar's classes, Neverwinter's combat, GW2's everything, even FFXIV 2.0s class and crafting systems are more of the kind of mmo content that generates that addiction you need to log in.

A few things to be said:

SWTOR has yet to prove it has still maintained over 1 million subscribers EA have not released any number since that early bird 1.7 million.  The old number is false data now and unfortunately I don't think we will ever see the real number, if they were growing though they would be trumpeting it trying to bring their stock up.

SWTOR in my view is not the second largest played mmorpg in the west that title goes to lord of the rings online which has a healthy base in Europe and USA, infact I wonder if League of Legends has more players than SWTOR.  If you look at it globally including asian gamers even wow comes in somewhere in the top 5, it is not no.1.

I would say just try to get onto the busiest server and don't care about rule set. Be warned though this is a failing mmorpg.  Sorry if the latter part of my statement offends you fanbois it is not meant to, it is just my opinion.

The game is losing population in Europe at rapid pace. Tomb of Freedon Nadd and The Red Eclipse servers are having some population though.

I recently rerolled to The Red Eclipse to use my free month and it has around 60-ish people on planet and 150 at fleet (Empire side).

I would not recommend buying it at this moment, since Diablo3 and GW2 are almost on the market, however, if you already have the game, why not play one character to 50?

It's doing amazing. Population is growing steadily as we simple europeans get turned on to it's novel, fresh approach to gameplay, world design and endgame longievity. The force is strong with EA.

It seems that its population is lowish but stable at least on the Republic side. A lot of people are actually hanging out in the lower level areas and in fleet. Past about level 30, the population seems to go down. I have been hanging out on Alderande and it seems a lot deader than Tattooine, and earlier areas.

I guess the Empire side is more populated, but I have not played my Empire characters in a long time.

The average population on Alderande is 9 at peak, on Tattooine a week ago it was about 12. Earlier areas can see around 20-30 people at peak, the Republic fleet has around 20-30 people on average at peak. The Jedi starting area has a solid population everytime I have logged in there (between 12-35) but the Soldier/Smuggler area is quieter. I remember the Bounty Hunter/Imperial Agent area having around 35 people on offpeak...

Everytime I log in though, outside of one or two servers at peak, the population is always light...

My biggest beef with the game at the moment is that it seems impossible to convince people to group up and do heroics. The most I can manage to scrounge together is one other person to do heroic+2, and one should just forget about flashpoints and heroic+4.

Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994.

You can check it yourself.

Go to server status page during prime time ( 20-22 ), look for European server that reaches "Very Heavy" or "Full" status (in language you prefer) and join that server.

Otherwise skip SWTOR :)

there, a link for ya:

Lol the SWTOR trolls are hilarious. Especially the Tera fanbois. That game is going to lose its luster faster than Aion. And funny someone tries to say LOTRO has a larger player base than swtor. It's free to play - I haven't logged in ages but you know they definitely count me as a player.

Facts are facts SWTOR is still the 2nd most played subscription mmorpg in the west (no one cares about Asia). GW2 would certainly knock it down a spot if it were ptp though but it will still sit in a healthy third place.

It's also the fastest declining.

SWTOR lost in 5 months what WoW lost in a year

If someone likes GW2 better than SWTOR, why would they bother continuing to pay for SWTOR? Why wouldn't they play GW2 exclusively and not have to worry about a sub fee?

people will for basically one reason.. its star wars.. oh and the complete lack of any other decent sci-fi MMO's aside from EVE but obviously a differn't type of game all around.. once another AAA sci-fi mmo comes out that actually is a decent game SWTOR has no chance in hell but lucky for them nothing is really on the immediate horizon sci-fi wise...

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

If that was the case than SWG would have maintained it's healthy population even after they implemented NGE.

Sure it ruined the game, but hey, it's Star Wars right?

Brand is good for initial sales but means nothing in the long run. And let's not forget that not every Star Wars fan identifies with the Old Republic time line. 3000 years before Darth Vader is barely recognizable when compared to the original trilogy.

SWG isn't what i really considered a "mainstream mmo" in the sense of wow and now swtor and such,  I guess I should rephrase I'm pretty sure SWTOR will hold at least Rift size amount of subs until a decent tranditional themepark scifi MMO comes along.. i know couple people who are only playing now because they have no other sci-fi mmo to turn to and are bored with the fantasy setting, I'm betting there are many many more like them
