They did the same with the grace period/no grace period/now we will have a grace period crap at launch also.

I predict further moronic ideas from Bioware then retracted as "listening" , seems that just can't not make the initial stupid decision , that would be too professional I guess.

They seem to have taken lessons from SOE - They are notorious for this too!

Latest thing - Prosiben - SOE "When deal goes through, US players willl only be able to play on US servers, and EU players will only be able to play on EU servers; Players "Nooooooooooo!"; SOE "Ok we listened you can now go play on any server you like!". Players "Yay! SOE the Heroes!" But EU will still have to pay 3 subs for EQ1, EQ2 and Vanguard, when only needed one sub currently, unless they change their mind again, but are being silent atm

This is just embarrassing.  It looks like one of two things: either they cannot figure out something as simple as reward all your customers who have stayed paid-up subscribers the whole time (and keep screwing it up by making it more and more complex than it needs to be), or they are nakedly trying to pad their sub numbers before the earnings report and don't really give a crap about their subscribers (throwing a token bone here to silence the outrage).  Neither puts them in a positive light.

This is wrong my thread gets edit by a moderator for saying  " swtor is a trash of a game."  This member may not had said it out right, but it's basically the same implication.

Thats far to logical and simple for BioEA.

I will not play a game with a cash shop ever again. A dev job should be to make the game better not make me pay so it sucks less.

SWTOR and it's hundred or so NA shards has 33 on low. Yes, about 1/3 of SWTOR servers are  low at 8pm  4/13/2012 with less than 3% of the remaining servers on high.

If WoW gave away free month to all players who beat their latest raid you wouldn't question it as a desperate act really considering their server population  trends or even Rift, while not on the same scale as WoW or SWTOR is doing perfectly fine with a healthy community on the vast majority of its shards.  But giving away a free month targeted at players that are finished with all of your games content when 1/3 of your servers are empty, looks like a cry for help.

Undoubtibly there are people  extremely happy with SWTOR and believe it to be a solid game and love it to death.  At least try to see the other side and ask yourself "what if" because what if this free month really is a cry for help and what if your favor game  is tanking while you ignore all the warning signs?

Currently WoW servers 55 out of 236 servers are low (23%)
Currentl on SWtOR 29 out of 123 servers are low (23.5%)

So um lol? Try harder at math?

Oh wait you guys just trolling.

Yeah but it also might be intended as a preemptive strike to tempt some more people to stay, looking at the imminent releases of D3, GW2 and TSW.

-----OR--------

MMO's are looking at retention rates.

After initial release, they get a number. Out of X players who try, Y players stay playing. So if 1000 try it, lets say only 300 stay. So games are throwing out promotionals. Using the preceding example, if they wanted 1000 players, they'd put out a promotional that would draw 3000 or so in (meaning 1000 or so would stay).

I think this is exactly what rift has done, and I believe it is what has stabilized their population.

Expect more of this. You think WoW is free up to lvl 20 for no reason?

and you think comparing a 4 month old game to a 9 year old game is biofandrome for no reason. LOL

Apparently, players with a level 50 character are more valuable than players that do not have a level 50 character.

Of course we are! ^^ Those of us with level 50's would typically be the ones most likely to come back to see new content. Or we would be, in just about any other game.  This is one of the first games that I've reached cap in, that I really have little interest in going back.  Given that I have NINE level 85's in WoW (yes, I'm quite insane...^^) thats saying something.

Guys, cut them some slack. I mean, really, I agree with most that some fundamental things in the SWTOR design went wrong. But just please stop making a fool out of yourself, by blowing small issues out of proportion. A 30 days free "returner" sub is a normal marketing method after a big patch and no sign for doom and gloom. A big patch can have some issues, all MMO had that from time to time, and a 8 hours downtime can happen.

There is enough to critizise here, but a delayed patch feature, a few hours downtime or some free play time certainly are NOT. Let's try to be rational and fair with our critique.

Holy Trinity who art in our MMORPGs! Blessed be thy speccs, as in WOW so in all MMOs!

Our daily loot grant us, and forgive us our noobness, as we forgive the noobs! And do not lead us to disconnects,

But deliver us from mediocrity, For thine is the specialization and the teamwork and the endgame, Until cancellation,

Well Bioware is the only company that cares about their player base I  see. This is a gift to those that have stayed loyal and understood what the legacy system was all about. People who didnt level atleast one toon from 50 that have been playing from launch are quite simply, out of touch. The whole premise behind legacy system was revealed some time ago and it was only logical to get a toon to 50 before its arrival. I sense that Bioware is doing this as a good gesture for those that have stuck with the game, and also as an apology for delaying ranked warzones.

You would never see Anet (wiuth questionable items in their cash shop already), Blizzard, Funcom, or any of the other big players do something so generous as give a whole month of revenue away. This is also something a failing game could not possibly do, as it would put them even more below the red.

Truly an amazing day to be a fan of bioware! They are quickly becoming my favorite company. I can't believe people are trying to twist this as a negative! Absolutely sad how far the haters will go. Bioware could do everything right from this point forward and they would STILL rant and rave their hatred upon this board.

Well, back to this amazing game with me! Cya later haters lol!

You mean the people who did exactly what Bioware kept encouraging them to do by rolling alts and playing them?

Wrong again sharpshooter. Bioware encouraged alts after completing the story of your m ain. IE getting to 50. The cost of legacy mode has been known for over a month at this point. Anyone who is able to think rationally would have been able to figure out that to fully enjoy the benefits, you need a lvl 50.

Encouraging alts after you beat your main toons storyline is what Bioware has been doing. Your awful spin does not match with reality son.

I completed my main's story at L48. I didn't grind the last two levels because it was so colossally boring and there was no point.

As long as your account has never been banned, you bought the game, have one level 50 and have paid a months sub at some point you're getting 30 days free added to your account as long as it's currently active. People who have no game time left can come back for 7 days.

http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20120412-1

I'd already unsubbed and only have a few days left on mine but i won't snort at a month free.

Edit - oh and a free tauntaun pet for those who like that kinda thing.

God I love it when I am right. I guess my "crystal ball" was on the money. Tried telling these people that this game was nothing more than a 90 day'er.

add another free 30 days and those people will just burn through any content patch in 2 weeks and then be left in the same boat.

One day these so called MMO devs might learn that you can not make mmo's like a single player game and expect people to sub for any length of time. When you make it like a single player game, its going to be played like a single player game, a month or 2 maybe 3, then its shelved.

You're absolutely correct. As soon as Blizzard stopped caring about quality, they had to resort to gimmicks for retention. Same thing in SWTOR's case, except the quality shows right out of the gate.

Blizzard had a stellar 5/6 years.

If you see no good or you see no bad in a game, chances are you are bias.

For just active players? Would think if they are trying to desperately hold people they would do all previous 50s as well to draw them back in... oh well.

No , a 30 days free for a certain subset of your paying customers but not the others is not a "normal" marketing method at all.

Offering those who have left free time to come back yes , but offering those already paying free time for having a certain level but nothing for the others is a moronic idea from a PR standpoint and they deserve the criticism they got initially , and now for claiming to "listen".

It was NOT a "returner" offer at all -

duh exactly

That is why they are not desperate, and all this doom and gloom are coming from the 1 percenters who come to this board to troll.

a) I never got anything like this in any MMO i played, and i played a lot of them

b) this is not "returner" promotion its for people with ACTIVE sub running

c) alongside this they have actual 7 days RETURNER promotion which IS common and i get a handful of them in my inbox from various MMOs i played over the years

d) this is not promotion for those that already gave up on game, its very desperate move to try to keep those that still play until they fix the game.

I cancled my subs today.

I love the Star wars unirverse, but SWTOR was not that good. The server I was on was empty all the time max I ever see on Republic Fleet was 40 players and 90% of them were to low a level to do the flashpoints I wanted to run.

I wont be going back to SWTOR, the graphics are bad, questing is just the same as any other mainstream MMO' just  wtth voice overs.

I am waiting for TSW life time sub to that game :)
