I think this number is old by now.
What do you think the number is now (April 2012)? Since we don't have any solid info to go on, what are you basing your estimate on?
The last time I played, about 2 weeks ago, there were not very many "Heavy" servers. I have toons on America, Europe, and Australia. At peak times for each of those regions, I saw 2 heavy Euro, 3 heavy NA, and 1 heavy Aus out of the 3 they have. |

No idea, you'd probably have to research how well the game is still selling via stores to make a guess. About as much as i'd be willing to guess without doing that is that the number will be lower, but then i never expected them to be as high as 1.7mil when the announcement was made. Personally my sub was cancelled a few days ago and wont be renewed when it's due mid april, everyone else i know that plays already left a couple of months ago apart from a few and they've just cancelled at the same time as me. Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them. |

If I want to make a generous guess...1.2million, lowest guess is 800k.
Just basing it on the server population and people who cancelled sub and it has not expired yet, there is almost literally dead servers. I guess they are just not merging to keep their false hype going until 1.2 but really, no one is buying it and it is doing more harm than good. People complain they want merges and Bioware does not provide.
A game can still survive with even 200k playerbase, but knowing EA that it is not likely to stay up unless they are making huge profits. |

Here we go again.... i will never understand this obsession of sub numbers people have. I swear i never heard of this before WOW came into existence. |

Gamers seems to write on a daily basis how him/her server feels emty and many are screaming for server merges, so about numbers is pointless to speculate. But the game seems to drop pretty fast in subs, let's see what happend when the 3 month subs runs out. If it's not broken, you are not innovating. |

EA will probably announce the number in their 4th quarter report, and just like last time they gave numbers people will claim that the numbers are inflated because of trials etc. (last time it was allegedly inaccurate because it was decided they were counting people still in their 30 free days). No matter what number is given, it'll be deemed irrelevant on this forum about 10 mins after it's announced. I'd say it's possibly over a million but significantly lower than 1.7 million - assuming that all the 'I quit' posts here and elsewhere aren't just noise.

They had a "vast majority of 1.7M" at the highest point. Let's say 1.5M.
Let's say they kept 70%. That's around 1M.

It'll be sub 1 million by now, why they wont announce anything again on their numbers until the games in trouble and they're switching to F2P.
1.2 took too long to happen. |

Probably about 1-1.2mil subscribers but of those only about 800k are active players = logs in every week. Will surely be below 400k before the end of 2012. |

Originally posted by Metentso it's already been established EA had nothing like 1.7 million paying subscribers when they made that claim. They were 'counting' as [paying subscribvers anyone who had registered a credit card - and you had to register a credit card just to play the game, even the free month. They probably have 500,000 subs by now and that will soon drop to 300,000-400,000 and stay there. |

1.2m at the end of March would be a very high estimate, I have twice offered to make a public admission of wrongness here to different people if it is above that and neither was willing to commit. My broad guess is 800k to 1.2m, I think they will be doing well if they hit 1m subscribers at the end of March. The three month subs run out mid April which will be a further hit, sales are not particularly high, the game has a slightly slower stench of Warhammer about it.

Originally posted by RefMinor The problem with your estimate is that EA is the master of 'spin', and they'll be sure to wait to make an annoucement right after some new event takes place, like the roll out of the game to a new area of the world so they can always cast the sub numbers in the most favorable light as possible. And failing to find such an event, you can bet they'll just stay strangely quiet or frame it in a unique way like # of boxes sold en total.

If they had more than 1.7m, EA/BW would definitely announce it.
I got tired of seeing that number thrown up all the time in defence of how great the game is doing. If people defending this game want to talk numbers, then they bring it on themselves. People are going to ask what the sub numbers are, months after release. EA/BW are quiet about it. |
