Ok, yes, I actually played this game for a couple of months.  I tried it when it first came out and wasn't impressed but then about a year ago I tried it again for lack of interest in any other games and suprisingly I got into it and enjoyed it.  It's strange since I don't really like quest based advancement but what the heck I had fun for a while.

It's been a while, I played around the time of the--uh, astral expansion (whatever it was called).  I hit max level and finished all the content.  I also did a fair amount of PvP although I did most of it before I got to max level.  I got up to knight rank for whatever that's worth.

Anyway I'm just bored right now and felt like sharing my opinion about the PvP matches.  There is a problem with the way it works in my opinion.  The problem is in having one player go first each round and the other always going second.  I'm sure you guys are aware of the fact that the player who goes first has a significant advantage.

Well, there are a couple of very simple ways this could be improved.  The simplest and most obvious way is to alternate which player goes first each round.

A better method but one which would require more work on the part of the dev team would be to assign priorities to differnt types of cards played to determine which player goes first.  For example: if one player selects a defensive card for the round and the other selects an offensive card, let the player using a defensive card go first.  If both players are playing a defensive card it wouldn't matter who goes first so in that case it could be random.

I would assign priorities from highest to lowest, something like this:

Sheilds spells

blades/traps

debuff type spells like accuracy reducers (can't remember what they are called right now)

minions

heal spells

damage spells

Also, if both players are playing a damage spell and the first one to play kills the player who is going second I feel that the second players' spell should still play out.  I mean there are times it would end in a tie if they both died and it seems a little unfair that the second player doesn't even get to play his card for the round just because he got stuck going second.

Ok, that's it.  Honestly trying to give some constructive criticism here even if it is a bit belated.

Hi Neanderthal,

While I understand what you are saying. I beleve the card game for Wizard101 is just fine~! They need more cards though :-D. It helps to pre plan your deck to cover both going first and last.  Also good to have a sideboard.

The card play is similar to Magic the gathering. So you should not have that much difficulty. You do have enough time to plan out and counter that devastating attack your opponent wants to unleash on you ;-D

Really?  I understand your pain...

But I do well with either first or second, it just depends, do you play defense for a couple rounds or try to defeat the other player?

It is as it says "Deck construction becomes an art."

As to the standing in PVP battle, ie. knight, warlord ect. that is just plain how well your deck is constructed to win against other wizards, not necessarly the game itself and yes some do make multiple accounts and lvl themselves to warlord status.  I have 2 decks that i use, one for pvp and one for world.  They differ only in amount of deffense, remember you must!! defend against another wizard but not the world creatures; so long as your gear is effective...

I have been playing for a couple years, started shortly after the game was launched.  Honestly the only thing holding you back in the arena is the you deck construct.  Honestly when you go first in pvp do you win? or do you have a hard time getting through the defenses of you opponent?  Or does that even cross your mind when you do go first?

What should be done when you play second in pvp, is defend to turn the tide, unless you are storm then they are mostly on defense.  But i have found that when you make a good strong stand,  in the #2 slot, you come out on top.

Really???

Look for the way out and not a way around....noob =]

hold on now...

using your sideboard in pvp is weak!!!

i know that some players use it but it shows you have no talent against a human player!!

Just my thoughts and many others in the game.  :P

When PVP first came out, I played it.... I was on the game since Day 1. And ever sense PVP came out, people have complained and complained about who goes first, and second. Yes, it's not fair, it's a game based on skill and extreme luck. At first, they didn't seperate the levels, so a level 1 could play with a level 50 (50 was the cap at the time.) Sense then, they have changed spells, and even brought in new stuff to help with PVP, (except for Henchemen.)
