DEVELOPER.Sebastian-Persson say : Looks fairly fair but, innovation 6/10? Ya, first person only MMO sandbox with realtime combat, a free-form crafting system and a free-place dynamic territory system has really been done to death.... |

Maibe they Expect 10/10 for the best F2p system ever :))))

Sounds like just a minor objection to one subscore?
Where I come from, a 62 is a low D grade...
Well, at least he's being honest in this instance.
"I should point out that no other company has shipped out a beta on a disc before this." - Official Mortal Online Lead Community Moderator Starvault's reponse to criticism related to having a handful of players as the official "test" team for a supposed MMO: "We've just have another 10ish folk kind enough to voulenteer added tot the test team" (SIC) This explains much about the state of the game :-) |

Originally posted by heckz0r Sebastian was using the 'advanced swedish' definition of innovation. I will give him points for the crafting system being innovative. Most of the core design of the game is just modified from UO so not much innovation there (but UO is a great place to copy from none the less).

Why are people still surprised by responses like this? The best way to describe Starvault is a World of Warcraft private server type of group. Any of you who have played on a WoW Private server currently or in the past like myself understand the obvious similarities.

I love how some in that thread were upset about the value rating and the fact that it was called an extended free trial rather than a f2p game, then turn around and get into an argument with another poster because you can Try all skills to level 60 but must pay the monthly fee to take them to 100 lol.
I do think their f2p model was innovative though. The game had next to nothing for a player base left and they were in desperate need of sheep for others to kill. Now it has an influx of new f2p players that are handicapped against the pay to play players making it a win for SV. Sure you generate additional negativity, but you bloat the egos of those willing to pay and get them to shell out even more. |

Why? they don't need it to kill the f2pers. hey're sufficiently strong already.

Originally posted by MMOExposed There are only two actual developers at Starvault AFAIK - Paratus and Sebastian. These guy code pretty much everything that's in the game, but Paratus is part time. But that doesn't really matter, there are core issues with using Unreal engine + Epic mmo overlay that make using it as a seamless world a very bad choice for an egine. They could have the best dev staff in the world and Unreal+Epic would still be a terrible choice. Epic was a beta product when SV chose to use it. Of course Unreal was never meant for large scale PVP and the game has always fallen apart any time there are over a hundred people on the screen.

Originally posted by psykobilly From my understanding about the Epic engine, is that it's a baseline for you to build upon and create a world for your game to thrive in. I think that since Sebastian is not nearly a 'real' programmer and Paratus is not going to do this on a part time basis (even full time, two devs won't cut it), that the Epic solution sucks because the programmers that are using it ALSO suck.
You can have a Corvette engine but if you don't know how to add the suspension, drivetrain, etc.... it won't work very well. |

Originally posted by Shyatic Epic is not an engine... Unreal 3.5 is the game engine that Mortal uses. Epic is just some MMO add-ons so that Unreal can be used as an MMO. Most of the Epic feature set is not even in use by Mortal. The main point is that Epic was initially demo'd for _instanced_ MMO's with limited population per instance. I'm sure the Epic solution would be fine for that. Mortal used it for something it was never intended to do.

Influx? Before I was banned for having "third party tools" which turned out to be my autoit macro (perm banned still) the population was laughable. It's so bad that in major forces you have to search the entire map just to find the same people you fought the night before. At most they will have 150 players on at prime time... most of which are noobs in Tindrem about to quit the game. |
