yeah, I know. But with full nudity, they're going to HAVE to deal with an AO rating, and will have to have at least token age verification for purchase.

Not saying it'll actually screen the kiddies out, but the fact remains that it will be a product designed for a "mature" audience.

Completely and totally irrelevant. Nudity is cosmetic. It has nothing to do with gameplay. At all. All those things do described do.

It's not irrelevant at all. It's a contributing factor in the overall realistic atmosphere that the game is trying to offer. The whole is the sum of it's parts (and no puns intended here). You make ONE concession, you might as well go all the way and just re-design the game.

what I was trying to ILLUSTRATE with an exaggerative scenario (go back to wikipedia and re-read the definition of a slippery slope fallacy...I was just WAITING for you to try that argument) was that one element of realism is just as important as any other when a collective effect is desired. Every grain of sand contributes to the beach. Yes you could remove one...but why pick any particular one over another? Unless of course you had personal issues with that one aspect of realism.

 

Regardless of whether or not it's a true slippery slope fallacy, your example is most definitely a non sequitir. But that's beside the point. The addition or subtraction of full frontal nudity in a sword and sorcery game has no bearing on the gameplay, except to the extent that it's used to do stupid shit like teabag or naked zergs for the lulz. Neither of which are realistic.

And speaking of realism, why in the hell is that even an issue in a game where you resurrect every time you're killed? If we're to take this realism thing to its logical conclusion, I say when you die in the game, it's permadeath, and you have to start a new character from scratch. That's both realistic and hardcore, but I guarantee you won't see too many people in favor of that.

But again... nudity equating to realism in the game is still complete bullshit. I have more respect for the ones saying outright that they'll teabag and fight with no pants or whatever, because they're at least being honest, instead of pissing in the sky and insisting it's rain.

This reminds me of how they painted over the sistine chapel's ceiling due to how profane it was.

A horrible defacement of art, if you ask me. Of course, we're also talking about static figures in a painting that don't run around the starting zones being naked just because... Which brings me to my entire point. Nudity in the game isn't bad. It's what we all know a few people will do with it to make it bad for everyone. Society today simply cannot have nice things.

if they remove it to lower the gamer rating Owell... who cares being topless is not going to make your weapon do more damage or allow you to have increases states or survive pvp/battles better its simply a cosmetic thing like putting nail polish on ur toon... simply there to make u look diffrent... i totally would expect to see tit-zilla with a chest size of 56ZZ swinging some long wooden sword.

you guys are arguing over pointless junk im sure they will add in an option to block it out.. not hard really you could setup an ingame graphic option to disable Adult contect im sure. but the main thing is it wont do anything. it will give people some giggles and laughs for a few weeks/month(s) then become like everything else.... boring first little bit WOOT wow look at the chest on that one.. few weeks later... I still would like to see them continually push to get more and more realistic and more artistic with their graphic art design.

Lets face facts here, Generation X on are very childish generations (and a lot of the Baby Boomers too).  The 1980's created a "me society" that generally turned us all into a bunch of old children.

My father and mother are now both retired and even if they did not have pensions, they would be fine because you know why?  Instead of buying a new iPod, iPhone, large screen TV, or whatever crap made in China they try to force us into consuming, they made due with what they had.  They saved their money, not in get rich quick schemes in the stock market, but in T-Bills, bonds, and savings accounts.  (So when the dot.com bubble crashed, they stilll had their savings.  When the credit market crashed, they still have their savings.)  Responsibility and more importantly SACRIFICE are two values that no longer exist in our society.

So to answer your question, I know a lot of mental children over the age of 30.

As to the thread, I support full frontal nudity in video games.  Why is mass murder more acceptable than a little cock n balls?  (I never said I was not childlike like the rest of my generation, just some self-criticism)

Immersion? For me, it's unrealistic when I strip off my characters armor and they're wearing unremovable underwear.  No, I wouldn't be the type to run around naked in the middle of town or cyber,  but I like gritty realism.

And frankly I do think you should be able to get limbs (and genitals) cut off if you try to fight without armor.

Hey dude, I'm ALL FOR permadeath. I've been wanting a permadeath game for a long time.

I like my games realistic.

Furthermore...I obviously don't give a flaming SHIT what you or others think of me, so why would I fabricate my reasoning for agreeing with the decision to add nudity to MO? If I wanted to wack it, I would admit it. And If you remember right, I DID admit that I love tea-bagging people I kill....especially in front of their friends. Maybe you'll be tasting my pixelated parts before you know it.

But seriously....I like the idea of nudity in a game for the sake of realism. Bring on permadeath, dismemberment, permenant stat loss due to scars, the whole nine yards. Games can't get realistic enough for me.

Just a little bit of info for you guys, the game is not likely to be rated at all by ESRB / PEGI. Reason? It's released online. Most stores will only sell games with a certain rating, but since it wont be sold in stores it doesn't need a rating. A rating by ESRB / PEGI is not mandatory.

Another thing: Censoring the US version?? You know there will only be one version on release right? And thats not a US one. US players will be playing on a European server, like Darkfall.

Yet another good reason to pass on this game. Playing a PvP game on servers in Europe... Even with a 10 meg cable connection, thats not going to be a pleasant experience.

I'll respect your desire to prove your manliness by teabagging your defeated foe in the honesty that it's given. I still haven't seen enough support to justify the realism from a gameplay perspective, so I still think the realism argument is contrived bullshit, but hey, that's just me.
 

And just to reiterate, I don't care that there's nudity in the game at all. It has absolutely no bearing on gameplay for me. It's as insignificant as... well, whether or not lanterns have color tinted glass or some other insignificant detail. I just enjoy tweaking people's rationalizations because it's fun to see them get worked up over something so utterly superfluous in a game about killing people and taking their stuff. :D

Blood and gore upsets no one here, but some nudity and there you have q lot of players upset one way or another...

Really. who cares? This game have a lot of more interesting "features" to discuss than this.

Funny BTW that Mythic cut out the Daemonettes and other Slaanesh worshippers from WAR, I guess they were considered "mature". To quote Mrs Lovejoy "Will no one think of the children?"

I too have been waiting for permadeath. If people are so concerned about losing valuable finds, then make vaults per account instead of per character. Easily solvable.

The day permadeath shows up in a game is the day I finally get excited about an MMO.
