People seem to be blindly saying "It's awesome" before actually trying it for themselves. It sounds potentially awesome, but also sounds like once the "cool factor" wears off - it could just end up being a huge pain in the ass.

This is one of those features I'll have to wait to try for myself before I pass judgement on it.

they did it for a reason.  So you actually have to pay attention to your surroundings, and use landmarks to find out where you are.  You guys should really go to their website and read up on development before shooting down game features.  I personally used to love making maps in EQ1 and getting lost occasionally.  I like a game that does not hold your hand while you play.

I can see guilds putting together maps and keeping them from the general public, or sharing portions with an allied guild when it makes sense.  Something as simple as not putting in a mini map actually opens up a lot of possibilities in the game.

Unfortunately, having to make an effort in your MMO is a lost concept to the WoW generation as well as the people who think these game should give them full satisfaction when they only have an hour or two to play.  Mortal Online is a bit of a throwback to the days when you had to apply a little more time and effort into gaming.  If this thought scares you, the other 99% of the MMO's on the market and in development have just what you are looking for.  Don't come here trying to change this one.

If all of the other reasons for not having a minimap aren't enough to convince you, then this one should certainly do the trick!

I thank the OP for this thread. I actually signed up on this site just to post in this thread haha.

Your post reminded me of a better time for MMORPG's, Original Everquest/UO era. I remember being like 11 years old, playing a Human warrior and thinking it was the greatest thing ever, not being able to see in the dark, 4-5 hour corpse runs on 56k internet, having no map yet wanting to conquer and explore everything.

However now that minimaps are pretty much commonplace in MMO's, my interest level has dropped significantly. They don't come with the same shine and mystery that they used to and its really sad. Now that there is a game that is coming out that is so called "Hardcore" (I just call it damn fun) and it has a great dev team behind it, who seem to genuinely care, it has really excited me.

So call it a flaw, call it whatever you want, I just want to explore and get trapped in another MMO to be honest.

I like the idea of being able to get lost.
Adds to the sense of adventure and exploration.

Understandable that some people wouldn't like it though.
