Mortal Online, released in 2010 by developer Star Vault, is considered a first person 'sandbox' open world MMORPG. The game features a skill-based action-oriented combat system.
Mortal Online developers eschewed the traditional class and leveling system employed by most MMOs, favoring instead, a skills and attribute system.
Mortal Online's PvP system is considered 'open world' in that players can engage one another at any time anywhere throughout the game world and the game is set to 'full looting' on the death of another player. In a twist on the traditional PvP mechanics, players face consequences for killing other players in the form of flags which change from blue (innocent) to grey (Allowed) to red (murderer).
Players can build houses and guild keeps. Forming alliances and strengthening power, diplomacy and violence, players can 'rule' entire areas of the game.
