Ryzom News - Ryzom Returns

Posted by Jon Wood on Aug 14, 2008  | 38 comments in our forums

The new Ryzom team has issued a letter to players who are waiting to get back into their game. Ryzom has had a number of finacial issues.

In order to keep you informed on what is going on with the new Ryzom, we wanted first to tell you that we are all really very happy and very proud to work, and for some of us work again, on the magical world of Ryzom. We wanted also to sincerely apologize for not having been able to talk to you earlier. Unfortunately we had a lot of work to do to revive our fabulous planet; tonnes of terabytes of blood, sweat and tears... hard drives to recover, check, and deal with... countless Kami, Karavan, Kitins, and friends to find and put back in place, all in order to reawaken Ryzom and to prepare it for your next visit.

But now we are all very pleased to share with you our joy that the hardest part is behind us.

Yes, our servers have already been revived in a testing phase for several weeks now, and with the help of our great CSR team, we have worked hard to repair Ryzom to its former glory. We mowed lawns, trimmed hedges, pulled weeds, and fed the Yubos which were feeling very hungry and abandoned.

These past weeks we also re-opened the servers to our former Ryzom subscribers to thank them all for their patience with a totally free VIP access and as we are very happy with how this VIP phase progressed we have now decided to expand the access to our servers to everybody who already had an active account, free trial included. Yes, even if you previously only had a free trial you can now once more log into Ryzom for free with all your stored characters! The only restrictions still applied to the free trial accounts will be the level cap and the geographical limitation to the starter island "Ruins of Silan", but these restrictions will not last long either! We will keep you posted on all of this when the time comes.

ATTENTION for those of you waiting to step onto Atys for the first time, please don't forget that we are still in a re-launch and testing phase. This means that Ryzom is still closed to newcomers as the creation of new accounts is not yet permitted. If you don't already have an active Ryzom account you won't be able to play Ryzom yet.

Don't worry though, we plan to reopen the account activation pages shortly; once again, we will let you know as soon as it happens.

Thank you for your loyalty and above all for your patience. The new Ryzom team bids you a very warm welcome and is looking forward to seeing you again in our world...

Well I have to admit I've been missing the world of Atys after reading about the recent happenings with Ryzom.  I think I'll be popping in there when they open it back up to everyone, at least for a short visit.

The graphics are definitely dated, yet there's still an amazing feel to that game world.  Gotta love it. :)

@shukes33:

That would definitely be against the terms of service, but the noises that are coming from the new owners sound like the opening of new accounts is not far off.

We'll be there waiting for you, trust me. All of us are more than excited at the prospect of new people joining us on our beloved world.

And if you need a guild family to help you get started, please feel free to look me up when you get there. Same name as here :)

(Sorry for the blatant recruiting... eh, no I'm not.)

@AlienShores:

The graphics may not be *quite* as crisp as the very newest titles, but as you say, the feel is amazing. I've not found a world (save the real one) that feels so alive.

Last night I was harvesting crafting materials in the forest in a snowstorm, as herbivores migrated around me and I watched carefully for aggro carnivores hunting the herbivores. I kept getting distracted by watching the snow falling from the dark night sky through the waving branches above me, and then again as the sunrise brightened the snowy landscape.

Then I got a call for help from a nearby old friend, and hopped on my mount and led my pack animal on a race through dangerous territory to go assist. Because the mobs migrate with the changing seasons, I had to be watchful even in the familiar area, but in the end I was able to get through just in time, and we then had a great time chatting and discussing recent events and celebrating our return to our beloved home.

I'm not happy about this. Ryzom had a nice time and even "The Ring" was a nice feature, I didn't like it and players had massive problems. Maybe the main problem was that they had different publishers. I dunno but I think it's time to say good bye ;)

Do I understand you to mean that you're not happy that people who really want to play the game can now do so, or will soon be able to do so?

Or did you mean something else?

I really loved the character progression process with the skill-based customizable system. I even loved the community and the world. However, I never made it past the trial, because the community was so small for one, and the game centered around crafting too much, where you needed to either gather or craft to make money. I'm a strait up adventurer and want to make money finding rare treasure and selling it for loads of cash. This game doesn't seem to cater to me, so even though it is free to me now, I will have to pass. Especially since I am playing 2 MMORPGs already, plus a single player RTS game.

You downloaded the client? Where from? The download page says it is only available to VIP players - www.ryzom.com/en/download_game.html

Finally! Step 3 has arrived. Meaning that all people who had a subscription in the past, can login and play again. (Yes, also the ones who stopped their subscription.)

It's not perfect tho; this unsubbed group cannot login to the forums yet.

Hopefully next step is that new accounts can be created...

New accounts on a new server.

I played Ryzom back in the day but left  because of low population. I have no interest in playing on an existing server though. I want to start fresh with a new crowd of players forging relationships and discovering the world and advancing their characters from beginning. If they announce a new server and advertise it, players will come.

With PvE raiding it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fauning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privelege. - Neanderthal

I've heard a few people espouse a similar point of view, but it seems completely alien to Ryzom, at least to me. The "raid for shiny loot" doesn't exist. (mobs drop crafting materials or in some "boss" cases crafting plans) Players are not "targets" for anyone, except in consensual PvP. Random strangers will go out of their way to help you progress faster, not compete with you.

I've never heard of a Guild Leader favoring toadies with gear. In fact, until you get to high quality gear at the highest skill levels, virtually any gear you can use is free for the asking from any crafter. Any decent Guild Officer will bend themselves in knots to find suitable gear for any guild member and ask NOTHING in return. If you are experiencing something different, quit that guild immediately!

Simply put, basing your approach on experience with other games will only lead you astray. Ryzom ain't like [insert your other game here].

I'll issue everyone a challenge:
Join up, join a guild, play for a month. If you still feel like there's no fun for you among the people already there... well, you may be right. But for me, my first month among the people of Atys hooked me for life. And it wasn't on a new server.

There was a new server at the time. I even made a character on it. I simply had more fun with the people I met on the old server.

@Samuraisword - you played once before, so as of right now you can play for free. Come join me and maybe I can change your mind. My name is the same there.

As of now, there are three servers, one for each language.

English: Arispotle
French: Aniro
German: Leanon

I don't want to get my friends in other guilds mad at me, so I'll say that you should go play a little on the starter island before you even think of joining a guild. If you have troubles, ask in the Universe chat channel, and many helpful people will provide help.

Here's a list of most guilds, with links to guild websites where available. Sort of like that one in my sig... *wink*

aaaaand.... step 4 has arrived...

In short: a limited number of new accounts can be made, for new players, with no restrictions or level caps or something. In case you are too late, they said 'try again a bit later, as we might add more accounts to be made'.

edit: kinda makes me wonder how many steps there gonna be...

I need some help, please.

I recently downloaded and installed the Ryzom client without a hitch and was able to log into the game and play it. However, since I've logged off, I haven't been able to get back onto the game. I can log on and pick my character from the character selection screen just fine, but when I start loading into the game world, I get stuck at the same spot on the loading screen and I hear music skipping.

Any ideas?

Several days ago I downloaded the game and then was able to log in and play for several hours without any problems.

The next day, I get error 3011 that says you need a proper subscription to connect.

I thought I would be able to play free until level 21 or some such thing?  Does this mean I have to subscribe now and there is no trial.

I looked on the forums at the error post that was stickied but I didn't see anything specifically addressing error 3011.

Do you have an old account Terra? Or are you using the Trials handed out now? I am playing on my old account (without subscription) and it's working fine. Haven't tried the trial obviously though.

Terranah, I've heard of a couple of other people having a similar trouble, but don't know how they resolved it.

I'm sure, though, that the customer service people will be glad to assist. Contact info here.
