Future development projects

Dear Players,

We are in the middle of the summer holidays and we want to take advantage of this moment to review Ryzom and its future development: What are we working on? What are we planning for the coming months?

The next months on Ryzom will be full of surprises. Episode 3 of the Saga, which will run at least an entire year, just started including the resurgence of Marauders and an alarming increase of Kitin activity. But this roleplay revival is not the only surprise that we have in store for you. This coming year will also see gameplay and dev additions, integrated as the Saga progresses:

  • Marauder city;
  • New PVP zone;
  • Faction events based on the Temple War;
  • Kitins and Marauders invasions;
  • Arrival of Gooified mobs and dynamic progression of the Goo;
  • Development of Encyclopedia v2.
Those additions, some of which have been asked for a long time, are already planned and will be developed and implemented over the coming months.

Continue to let us know your wishes on the Ideas for Ryzom forum and don't hesitate to spread the news. Showing us your love of Ryzom is our great source of motivation.

Ryzom Team

You can play Ryzom for free up to level 125 (in all professions), that's a lot of gameplay for nothing :)

Closest thing I've played to a PvE sandbox, there is PvP but I haven't gone near it yet. The community is the best I've ever come across in any game, incredibly helpful and informative and so nice to see GM's active in chat too. Has a great skill system that allows you to customise them using 'stanzas' and I love how mobs behave, docile animals tend to be inquisitive and will come and investigate, aggressive mobs are VERY aggressive and you'll see packs of animals migrating across the landscape. The starter island is well populated, highly recommend you check this game out if you haven't already.

Its better to be quiet and perceived as stupid, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

True, but given that they're apparently always on skeleton crew it's nothing to be surprised about.

Nature without Technology is little more than animals running about.
Nature without Magic is without wonder or miracle.
.........
Magic without Technology is fantasy.
Magic without Nature is formless and useless.
.........
Technology without Nature is application without understanding.
Technology without Magic is repetitious and uninventive.

Some of it sounds good, Marauder city could be interesting. Fixing goo mobs and Encyclopedia, better late than never.

But the PvP area, have they learnt nothing. There's already PvP areas in the game and they never get used, there's a PvP area in forest in or near KoD. The Lands of Umbra for PvP guild. A massive area that has no real point to it apart from the odd low boss or super node, never really gets used. Everytime they have put in a major PvP patch people walked out the game. People look at Temples now with Rose tinted glasses, a massive chunk of the player base walked.

I might give this game another go. Last time I tried Ryzom (several years ago), I was heavily into WoW and I didn't give it a fair shot.

Now that I've played WoW and several of its clones ad nauseam, I think I might be ready for something different.

On a side note, I'm amazed that this game is still going, after 2 ownership changes and even a full shutdown in 2008.

There was an overhaul of the PvP system last October, with Patch 1.10.0.  There are some players that are always tagged for PvP but the majority of the population only participates in PvP when they want to.  As for the Lands of Umbra... I think you need to worry more about the Kitin Patrol (KP for short) than PvP.
