Been playing for a couple of days so far and I've been impressed.

Am slowly working my way through things but I'm just worried what happens when I leave the starter zone.

I've read there are no quests as such and while I like freedom, I do like improving gear and weapons etc as quest rewards.

Have I got this wrong or will my experience change once I leave?

"No quests" is inaccurate, more like "not many" when compared to other MMOs.

However, you will not be finding improved gear via quests.  All items in game are crafted by players.  All crafted items are made from either items that are harvested by players or by the body parts that the NPCs drop(when they're killed by players).  To get better gear you will need to buy/craft it yourself.

Just a suggestion: Don't leave the starter area until you get to (at least) 20 in the four major skillsets.  And complete the four main quest lines (again, at least).  Arken is a bitch, killed him twice in two different groups and still have not received credit for completing it.  :p

gl hf, enjoy your stay on Atys!

Were you the one trying to heal my corpse on the starter island today? Could have sworn the person was named Kovah. I'm Moebiuss in game.
