i read this game has alot of old school concepts, meaning is it more like EQ1 and you camp and sit there killing mobs or more quest based like everything else out there ? |

Hey CajunGuy, Quick answer...more like EQ1, but different. For instance, the game world is dynamic...meaning there are seasons, and the flora and fauna actually change and react to them: Also, it has no Elves. But it does have strange blue creature like Avatar. Another neat feature is that it has something called the Ryzom Ring. You can actually create and play in player-made game content. The only drawback, for some, is that the population of the game is lower than most. Unlike any other MMO I know of, there has been no player yet to reach the level cap of 250 in all available skills. So, one might say, the sky is the limit! :)
Come find out for yourself! There is a nice 21-day free trial available for download on Ryzom.com...no credit card required. |

Ryzom.... Probably the best (seriously) , most complex and deepest MMO on the Market. Great ideas in this game, great "World", awesome (and unique) way to use skills such as "Prospecting", cool reason to have PVP (experience boost potions- You battle for control of the facilities), awesome exploration, etc, etc, etc. There are even "live" strorytelling events in this game (some very cool, some are ....meh.) a helpful community, etc. etc. BUT, the problem with this game is the population (its way too low) and the helpfulness of the community backfires (people hand out and share all the best Armor, Weapons, Money, resourses, potions, etc.- Meaning that you do not have to "work" for the best stuff) and the game is really top heavy. Another problem is that the complexity often scares people away (even though once grasped its very easy and intuitive) and a game like this needs LOTS of people to shine. All in all I LOVE Ryzom and I resub a few times a year to look at what the situation is.... They need to make a new "non transfer" server where everyone needs to start new- This would revitilize the game. |

If by "non-transfer" you mean that no "old players" are allowed, I´d agree that it could be a quite cool idea. But if experienced players would be able to use alts on this server, the situation would be back to "standart" in a very, very, short time. *sigh* You´re forgetting the personal experience us "oldies" do posess. Some egotistical idiots, yes i openly call them that, would sure as hell get over there and grind their way up to "better than everyone else" levels, to dominate the Outposts and "level spots". So there´d probably be even more of a gap between "old" and "new" players very soon. So, there´d be no use of a new server at all. Only if us "older" peeps are strictly forbidden to join, could new players truly experience the awesome feeling of discovering a new world and appreciate the learning of the skills and such. It was a great and happy time, back then. *sigh* After a while this would of course diminish too, those who came first would again be "older" and itd all start over anew. A vicious circle every MMO experiences. Or show me one, where more experienced players don´t in a way "lord it over" newbes. :(
CU SaM Ryzom, we dare to be different.
Do you dare to adapt? |
