Didn't really get a good sense of this game on the trial a few months ago as I ended up being too busy in RL to get far. Had some time yesterday and subscribed based on your comments, links etc.

Should i look for a guild before or after I leave the noob island?

Are there long term pros or cons to a particular racial or kami kara alignment?

It's up to you.

I waited until I was off the tutorial Island since I knew if I joined a guild i would feel forced to rush through the learning experience.

As for the Kami/karavan question Once you join a guild you will know whether to go Kara, Kami or stay neutral.

Most guilds do their recruiting on the Mainland.  Find out who you are teaming with, see how you get along with others and then make your decision.

There are no long term pros or cons either of the factions.  Both allow you after you reach +60 fame to get the PR TP's, and both have faction chat.

If you decide to be faction neutral, you still have access to PR, but you will need to trek in.
