Hi there.

I have been trying a few games lately, and I don't seem to find THE game. I ve been reading info about this and that game, and I came across Ryzom.

This is what I would like to find in a game. Please tell me if Ryzom can offer me this.

-A friendly community.

-Deep and complex crafting and crafted items that matter. Highly customizable items, desirable crafted items, not "I am using this crafted rubbish until I get that loot".

-Char diversity. No cookie-cutter, no build-of-the-month.

-Little grinding. When something is hard to get it's cos it's hard to get "per se", not becouse the drop rate of something is insanely low or becouse you need lolzillion resources or faction or gold or whatever.

-Huge world.

-Decent amount of population. Lively market. Getting mates to play with beeing easy, I hate hate hate soloing.

-Challenging encounters.

-Sandbox feeling. No gating. Freedom to move anywhere (on your own risk). I hate it when they force you to do content A to be able to access content B, or to get faction X to be able to enter area Y.

-Good performance, little bugs (ideally no bugs, but I guess a zero-bugs MMO does not exist, hehe).

I do have the impression that Ryzom can fit many of these requisites. Those of you who play this game, can you please tell me to what extent is Ryzom the game I am looking for?

Many thanks.

The community is way too friendly. It's almost wierd how happy and friendly they are.

-Deep and complex crafting and crafted items that matter. Highly customizable items, desirable crafted items, not "I am using this crafted rubbish until I get that loot".

Crafting is crazy, you can change stats, color of armor and quality. Also near every item in game is crafted.

-Char diversity. No cookie-cutter, no build-of-the-month.

Well theres four races, Since there's no skill cap you can create any type of class you want. I have a heavy armor, two handed Edge character that specialized in 2h edge crafting and Desert dig. also Ryzom has a spell customization system so if you ever run into a character that's skilled the same depending on how your spells are set up you can both fight totally different.

-Little grinding. When something is hard to get it's cos it's hard to get "per se", not becouse the drop rate of something is insanely low or becouse you need lolzillion resources or faction or gold or whatever.

Well Ryzom has a mission system that helps you raise to skill level 150 after that you can team up and hunt mobs. it's a bit grindy but people are willing to team in ryzom so it's not bad.

-Huge world.

Ryzom is massive, Take any three world of warcraft or Lotro zones and they would fit into one Ryzom zone.

-Decent amount of population. Lively market. Getting mates to play with beeing easy, I hate hate hate soloing.

Ryzom has a low population but this isnt so bad since we have a global chat so if you ask for a hunting team you should get a few people to play with. The market isnt bad its just most of the low quality stuff is given away by older characters. Like I said the community is very nice so they help newbies out with gear and other stuff. Ryzom is challenging and while you may hate soloing this game makes it interesting since mobs change spawn locations according to seasons and weather in game. Keeps the world dynamic.

-Challenging encounters.

The game has a very challenging game world with tough mobs, roaming bosses and require a team and Massive raid lairs with crazy amount of mobs and a boss at the center. Its some epic stuff.

-Sandbox feeling. No gating. Freedom to move anywhere (on your own risk). I hate it when they force you to do content A to be able to access content B, or to get faction X to be able to enter area Y.

Well Ryzom lets you travel anywhere but the mobs will be very hard. you will need to skill up to take them down. You can through trial and error get around mobs and explore 100% of the game world if you want.  Once your high skill level you wont be stuck in one or two zones since there's no skill cap.  You can level a lower skill and adventure with low skilled guildies. It keeps the game world 100% useful.

Ryzom has a great sandbox feel, fully customizable spells, optional factions, consensual pvp, Player run Events, you can create your own quests and much more.

-Good performance, little bugs (ideally no bugs, but I guess a zero-bugs MMO does not exist, hehe).

Ryzom runs great since its around five years old but it also looks pretty good. the world and weather effects are really nice. Not many bugs.

I do have the impression that Ryzom can fit many of these requisites. Those of you who play this game, can you please tell me to what extent is Ryzom the game I am looking for?

Ryzom is what you make of it. You can solo in a harsh gameworld, learn the lay of the land through gathering specializations, truely create a unique class for yourself with spells that you customized, you can be a DM and run Ryzom ring events and lead players around your own created pve content, you can take part in arena, guild vs guild and faction vs faction territorial pvp, you can boss hunt, run fame missions, fill the encyclopedia, Raid massive lairs and take donw one of the four massive bosses in game, you can run a official Event that has you changing game lore forever.

I could go on and on man. Ryzom is a fun game check it out.

Ryzom is an excellent game with a fantastic and friendly (if small) community. I'm thinking of returning to it myself; I only "quit" because the game shut down when the last company went bankrupt.

There's definitely a fair bit of grinding involved, however... quite a bit, actually. The good news is you can pick and choose what you want to grind, and/or do it with friends, so it's not as bad as in theme park games or Korean grinders.

What metalhead said

But, the game is only as "grindy" as you make it.

There are, and always will be, people who see gaining levels and PvP as the only viable content any game has got  / needs.

To them the MOBs are only there to grind their levels up to max and then beat the hell out of each other.

Every game with PvP content has these guys. It´s their style of play and if they want it that way, so be it.

But to me they´re simply cutting themselves of from a huge part of the game they´re playing.

Especially if the begin to whine, that theres nothing to do anymore, when they´ve reached max. lvl.

*shakes head*

Anyway, if you don´t want to grind, simply don´t grind.

And don´t let anyone fool you into thinking that its the only way to "be something" or "do anything" in a game.

Set your own pace and see" the path as the goal"

I´m with Ryzom since release and have nothing maxed. I simply "play".

And I love it!

Enjoy your stay on Atys!

I played this a few years ago and while I did like it I found it to be too group oriented for the size of the community. I'm glad to see it's back up and feel bad for the company that bankrupted under it.  This game is easily one of the most under achieved gems in the MMO genre. It should have been much more.
