Could anyone give me a brief overview of the PVP system in this game? When I did a trial I noticed kind of arena-style PVP zones. Is it all? Is there any purpose-wise PVP combat in the game? |

Ryzom has a few pvp systems in place. Faction vs faction warfare (Kami vs Karavan). GvG territorial control (basically fighting over and defending Capturable outposts). An arena system (good for player run arena events), A straight up flagging system ( be hardcore and pvp 24/7) and FFA pvp zones. The FFA pvp zones have the best materials in them so you will see people fighting over the best mats. Gear decays as you use abilities so people replace gear so crafters always have something to do. I maybe missing one or two systems. I know the Official Event teams also do pvp and pve events. Ryzom has more of a pve focus but the pvp is there to mess with as in any sandbox the game is what the players decide to make of it. Hope that helped.

searched youtube for some videos, combat looks very static. is it true? does maneuvering matter or it's pure dps vs armor?
and how much pvp is happening in fact? you said that the game is more PVE oriented, so PVP must be a quite rare incident then?

I'll be honest with you. Ryzom's community is like so friendly toward one another I feel like all the hippies of the world left woodstock and started playing Ryzom. THey are so freaking helpful that you wouldn't know this game had a outpost, territorial pvp focus at high skill levels. Most of the player dig and hunt while socializing its strange tbh. As a guy coming from a game Like eve it blew my mind that everyone was so freaking laid back. Pvp happens in this game but like any good sandbox the community is needed to flesh out a particular mechanic and the folks in Ryzom have spoken loud and clear they wanna be friends first lol. You can pvp in the FFA zones but most people dont, you can disrupt Lair raids and boss hunts and gank people but most players dont and the outpost mechanic is alot like WARdecs in Eve so people know ahead of time and make a night of it on the weekends. It's fun not used as a griefing tool. As for movement this is a near 5 year old game its combat is similar to guildwars. movement means nothing you attack run up to someone and bash the hell out of them using spells you customized yourself. It's not WOW combat but its good enough. Think GUildwars or even Aion's on foot combat and you will have an idea what the games like. It's not for everyone.

The more time I spend on Atys, the more I think it isn't a game for hardcore PvPers. PvP DOES happen, like once in a while, but it's more like an event than a regular happening. Methinks too much stability does no good to the game. We need another evil guild that is gonna gather competent PvPers and that is going to make us fear for our Outposts again. I'm not talking about a bunch of merciless asses that are going to gank you, t-bag you, gloat around while raping your yubos... we're still Ryzom, not AoC or Darkfall. Just a bunch of elite warriors that will kick our butts with style and class. Force us to get off our lazy bums a bit. I like to PvP, but right now it's so repetitive and pointless that, like a former guildie of mine would say: "I'd rather be digging." --------- |

Sherk does speak only for the International Server though. Lets just say, on the German server PvP is a bit more "serious", especially because we´ve got such an "elite" Guild that´s keeping many of our PvPers on their toes. They´re Kami, but as far as I can tell they´re not shy of stirring up trouble wherever they can. But I´m not into PvP, so my info may be inadequate. CU Ryzom, we dare to be different.
Do you dare to adapt? |

While pvp is an option i've said this over and over again. Ryzom is one of the rare pve focused sanbox games on the market. That enough should get people interested, Ever get tired of being ganked and scammed in Eve or DF? Dont want to be fully looted when you die and want a friendly community? Play Ryzom.
Edit: If Ryzom was like Eve or DF (high risk and Gank friendly) I would play Eve instead but since Ryzom gives me a unique game to play (pve sanbox) I have had a game to enjoy that has filled the void left by Pre-Cu. PLaying: EvE, Ryzom Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum |

personally I would happily play EVE if I had more control over my ship. appoach/orbit/f1, f1 only if you are in a battleship/sniper hac, completely kills that game for me. and I am not an rts guy either. probably will try DF. |

DF is a great choice, I enjoy the game even though I only play it on and off. Best thing about these sandbox games is how unique they are from not only each other but from the ten ton gorilla that everyone seems to copy these days, Wow. Want a totally different experience play a sandbox mmo. GL PLaying: EvE, Ryzom Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum |
