Well, i guess you are entitled to your opinion, Einexile, just dont expect me to agree with you, and i AM actually playing this game right now.
Edit: I didnt play this before, and even with a supposedly low population, most people are friendly and helpful, the sense of community is strong. The game can probably survive with its present population, more folks would be a bonus both in terms for interactions between more people, and more subs could allow Winchgate to do more. I think this game is a long slow growth kind of game, as Eve was, and Eve continues to grow over time. |

Meet people from all over the world... then kill them. |
One thing to bear in mind is that the player base for this game is very, very European. I have been logging on during in the evenings from NYC and the level of activity would make me a little sad. Yesterday I logged in during the afternoon and there were a lot of people around, and the global chat was plenty active. If you are in North America and finding the game dead, try logging in as early as possible. einexile the meek |

Expecting more subscribers in a game that HAS NO ADVERTISEMENT is like expecting to charge a cellphone with no electrical outlet. |

If I recall correctly they do have plans for advertisment and have been putting together a team dedicated to that sole purpose. As of yet though I don't think anything has come of it, but that's not to say nothing will. ------------------------------------------------ |

They should have had advertisement before and during the reinstatement of sub fees. And they didn't even need to spend money. They just needed some initiative, a phone, and send some e-mails. They could have gotten TTH, mmorpg.com, Warcry, MMOsite, and a dozen other gaming sites to do interviews/reviews FREE of charge. That's free advertising, that would have gotten their game noticed by more people than the occasional forum browser who just happens to accidentally stumble into Ryzom's section here or at one of those other sites. Trying to get paying players when noone knows the game even exists just makes no sense. Because the ones who do know and are paying get tired of playing with a low pop and quit. Who's replacing them? A few stragglers here and there who maybe hear about the game through a friend, but then leave soon for the same reason the one's before them did. No advertisement, no game. And the fact Nevrax didn't learn this from the first time they owned the game really makes me wonder what other lessons they failed to learn. |

You make good points, Ryzom has always sucked the big one in the advertisement department. I just feel that the new owners have had a lot of broken pieces to pick up and try to piece together which so far they have done a good job, the new team can only do so much at once. Yes lots of (if any) advertisement from the word go would have been great. But this doesn't mean advertisment can't be introduced at a later date. The game had some really annoying bugs and interface changes that needed addressing that could easily have put off potential new players. The devs said themselves they needed time to get their head around the code and how things work. Now the game is in a better state maybe its time to get that advertisement ball rolling. ------------------------------------------------ |

It pisses me off that such a good mmo like Ryzom is being virtually ignored by the mmo community. When more people play a pos like Darkfall over an excellent game like ryzom I question the entire community. Just keep on feeding the WoW clones cash while gems like Ryzom die, Just don't bitch when unique games like this one no longer exist. Playing: EvE, Ryzom |

If you wanna try an original game with lovely atmosfear and ephorian music, give it a go I would say. I think they got a free trial that you can go on.

There is a contest underway to develop code for the game. http://dev.ryzom.com/projects/ryzom-api/wiki/Contest The prices for the subscriptions have gone down and the free trial is 21 days long (no longer restricted to Silan). Thats good to hear, the mainland can be quite different to silan. Gives players a better idea of the game. The longer time is great too, I often feel like a week or two isn't quite long enough to get a good feel for the game. ------------------------------------------------ |

The only thing left for us to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us... |
Brand new player, currently on the trial now. Been thinking about trying Ryzom for a couple of years. I'm a veteran EQ2 player and I must have logged a few thousand hours in that game. After the last few months of trying a dozen or more F2P games, I can honestly say this game leaves them all behind. Truly amazing game and I'll probably be subbing soon. As a North American player I'm hoping to contribute to the community on the English server. Good Luck to all... |

Its strange. I've played ryzom once after they made the new trial island. I subscribed to the game and played the mainland for a while. Was totally in love with crafting and resource hunting. Thats pretty much all i did once i hit the main land. Gather resources and craft all day long day in day out lol. The system rocks so much its totally addictive. The only thing that got to me was the skill grind. I never really felt like grinding and getting my battle skills up. Even though the whole skill system is awesome with customizable skills etc. And ofcourse there werent enough players to group with which was also a big downer for me. The community was great though and very helpful and also organized trips to the other parts of the world through dangerous lands full of monsters. A trip like that could easily take hours :). But now a few years later i still consider ryzom as one of the better mmorpgs out there. Even though i didnt even play it that long. There's something about this game thats really really emersive. It has so much atmosphere and uniqueness its, like others have said a zillion times already, truely a gem of a game. If only there were more players. When i think about the music and the scenery/atmosphere it stil makes me want to jump into the game just to experience it again but ah well.... Ryzom really makes you feel part of the world you play in. Its like playing in a book's fantasy story. Its huge too !! It has so many cool features like resource gathering, crafting, dont even start about exploration coz this game is crazy on exploration (i mean it takes hours to even go from one place to another and boy is it exiting with all those monsthers everywhere). The world is very scary and beautiful at the same time. Its an amazing feeling. Its simply a brilliant game and unmatched by many games. And like i said.. i didnt even play it for that long due to lack of players but i do know a special game when i see it. Total shame this game had such a bad start.

And like I said, its a vicious circle, people leaving because of too small population. How is it supposed to grow, if people don´t stay? *deep sigh*
CU SaM Ryzom, we dare to be different.
Do you dare to adapt? |

I was on a Ryzom alt account last night and Uni chat was moving as fast as Eve rookie chat lol. People are playing this game it just has a small community. Honestly im surprised people say they can find a group. It took me and my little skill rank 50 Zori healer like 10 minutes to find a hunting party that lasted almost three hours. You have to try to get a team. Why would I play a pathetic themepark MMO when I could enjoy a masterpiece like Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age? |

Yeah I got in a party with one person last night but we needed more. While im sure there are more people playing at higher levels there are not many people in the newb zones and there are a lot of Missions you need a group for and you cant really get one going. I think when this happens it most likely turns people off because they feel like they are forced to group. Which as for me I don't mind, I say the more grouping the better. I just started crafting till I can find a party for those missions though so there are still ways to play without a group.

My little newb character is around the Zori starting city and last night I had two other melee character in team with me. I made sure they had the taunt skill and we were good to go. I can usually find a team of two to four people quickly if im willing to raise healing. its a different story when I go melee but it could be done even without a healer as long as you kill fast enough and taunt off eachother. I skipped the starting island and have been grouping from skill level 10 on lol.

Yeah im still on the newb island so maybe there isn't many people on the island or something. Yeah im still trying to figure out what kind of character im trying to make. Right now Im using a sword and shield and I have a few magic spells. I kinda was going for a DnD Druid that I had in NWN.
