Hi quick question, how big is the world in Ryzom? Is it wide open or are there closed in areas, if so how big / small are they? thanks.

World is huge and is open. there are no restricted areas. Of course some regions can be very deadly for the newvbie.

Anyway, with a bit of experience in sneaking (that's a personal skill not trainable) it's possible to travel everywhere even with a low level character. Anyway, exploration can be a challenge even for the masters, if they don't pay attention or don't know how animals behave in a region.

It's difficult for me to compare now the world size with other MMO, because since the reopening of the game, i closed everything else and I have a bad memory :).

Anyway, if you start the trial, the training island (Silan) is an average region in size, and mainland have 39 regions, subdivided in 4 continents (one for each race in game) + the underground (Prime Roots). There is also another region (Almati Wood), used in the past for events that's still accessible, despite underused.

Each continent is a different ecosystem, and all the landscape (and weather too) change over seasons to reflect them (so, in winter, the forest became full of snow, in spring is full of flowers, etc...).

The ecosystems are: forest (matis homeland), jungle (zorai homeland), desert (fyros homeland) and tropics (tryker homeland).

Prime Roots are totally different being it underground.

Players need to stop giving a crap about how big the world is in an MMO, and should question more how much content fills the world space.

Cool, thanks!  While you're telling me what I should like, can you tell what type of movies I would personally be interested in?  I'm going to the theater later, and since your not here telling me what I like, I have no idea what ticket to buy.

Gilgameesh pretty much got all the details. I can compare it to a few other MMOs though. It's not as large of a world as Vanguard, but it's definitely large. Bigger than LotRO (by the time I stopped playing LotRO) and AoC from what I can remember at its launch.

It would easily take you a couple hours to cross. When trekking with guildmates, it can take well over an hour to go from one zone's capital to another. Especially if you're trekking with some low level players, which seem to be irresistible to higher level carnivores you'll come across during the trek.

Current: Ryzom, DFO
Played: WoW, CoV, SWG, EVE, LotRO, AoC, VG, CO
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, WAR, EQ2, CoS, FE
Future: Mortal Online, Earthrise, APB

Rather than be sarcastic, take a moment to evaluate what it is that you want about a huge world. Maybe it's room to explore. Maybe it's a wider variety of things to do. Maybe it's the ability to disappear by yourself or with a small group of friends to do your own thing. Maybe it's space to build player owned structures or run player own venues in the game world.

Look at it on a smaller scale - the main cities. Most players cannot stand the sprawling 'epic' size of the main cities in many MMOs. Now if these massive cities actually had something to do in every inch of the city and had reasonable methods to travel the city, people would probably take a liking to them.

Players need to identify what they want when they say they want a massive game world and convey that message instead. It would go a longer way towards helping developers actually create the game environment or content that you want.

Why didn't you just post that to start with? His sarcastic comment was in response to your rather terse and dictatorial initial post.

The World is pretty massive.

I would say take any three zones from WoW or Lotro and they would fit nicely in one of Ryzoms zones.

As for the content in the world. Every zone is filled with mobs, mission NPCs, Boss mobs and Tribes to gain Fame with.

Certain zones have different rule sets like FFA pvp no worries though we don't have player looting so even the pvp is relaxing.

Why would I play a pathetic themepark MMO when I could enjoy a masterpiece like Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age?

I will never understand people that try to make assumptions based on nothing. The Op asked a simple question, he didn't wrote any details why he was asking that, nor you can understand his reasons, so your attempt to read between the lines thinking to understand what was in his mind, is pathetic and, mostly, totally useless.

This is a simple information question and have nothing related to all the discussion about content, cities and other useless (in this context)  considerations u have done here.

Thanks for the info, sounds great.

I like exploring, mostly VG style, but even with zones if they're bigger than WoWs and LotROs that sounds good to me.
