So is this game dead or what? Is it P2P or F2P? Im curious because apparently you can still download it, so does that mean you can still play it? I heard that the servers were shut down because of funding or something. Anyway, and info is appreciated.

The game was P2P but, the download was free.

Right now we are all just waiting to see what happens. There is supposedly a buyer for the game but, no one knows just what they will eventually do with it. Must of us hope these people liked the game when it was online and we can dare hope they may actually help it. After that it will be up to the player base and if they return in numbers.

This is the 2nd time Ryzom has been in financial trouble and that usually does not bode well with serious players trying it out.

I am gamer. Hear me click.

So what happens if I download the game? Am I going to be stuck on the newbie island or has the whole game been opened up? I am personally committed myself to virtual world MMOs and would like to see this game find some kind of success. The little bit I've played in the past was good, too bad I simply gave other lesser games more time than Ryzom.

Currently playing: No MMOs. They all suck.

If you download the game now, nothing will happen, because all of the servers are down (and have been since early February).

Yeah - there's nothing on the official website re the game being down. I only discovered it had taken a dive when in February I logged in to try to renew my subscription - which repeatedly failed with no good reason given.

So naturally I came here and found the reason why...

I suppose they had other things going on, but it's a shame they couldn't have put at least a notice on their website re the game's status.

Hopefully if they do get it back up and running, they'll do a decent recruitment drive. Maybe invite everyone back with no fees for a month and seriously flog the free trial thing for new players.

I had that terrible lag problem the first time I tried it - which was a bit over two years ago I think. It was so bad I couldn't play at all. And it's a problem I've never had with any other mmo.

Tried it again a year ago (on exactly the same machine) and the lag was non-existent. They'd also radically improved the new player area - well totally replaced it. They did a fantastic job on this area, too.

I really hope Ryzom makes it through this...it's an amazing game from the little I've experienced. One thing "they" need to work on is the interface, it's the only flaw I can find with Ryzom to be honest. It isn't very user-friendly at all which can put off potential players.

As I said, I hope whoever does buy the game capitalises on the potential market and does the game justice.

What was it you didn't like about the interface? Or what would you do to improve it?

The only thing I remember being a bit unusual was the whole build-your-own spell/ability with stanzas thing, and that's just cos it was different from the norm. I thought the Silan tutorial handled that relatively well.

What I do remember finding annoying about Silan was some quest problems - particularly the lack of a quest log, i.e. you'd pick up a quest (or 5) and then if you forgot what was required to finish one, you'd have to ask on a chat channel for help. There weren't even basic details on what you needed to do in the quest log.

It's not anything specific really, just the general design that I find to be quite un-user-friendly. It just seems to be all over the place and I found it hard as a beginner to find certain options etc. The design should also be refined imho, as the different elements of the interface don't fit together. I'm the type of person who loves things neat and orderly, meaning that random bars of different sizes all over my screen is a no-no. Obviously it isn't a game-breaking flaw, but having an interface revamp would do the game alot more good than harm.

Ah I'm with you now. I thought you meant just the basic action bar.

I also remember having trouble finding certain things when I started, and had to ask on chat/guild channels. Some new players also complain about the lack of transition info from Silan (the noob area) to the mainland - in particular, the radically different nature of quests/levelling.

My experience was that the community was keenly aware of these shortcomings and picked up the slack flawlessly.

But you're right, there is room for improvement with fairly simple changes like that.

Thankfully the community is what it is, otherwise I would have seriously been lost
