I actually liked this game, except for it's controls, which were, in my humble and worthless opinion, the most horrible I've ever dealt with in any mmo (or even online shooter for that matter).

For me, shooting and driving are vastly easier in real life than in this game.

Maybe it's standard fare nowadays, but I can't stand having to manipulate the camera while shooting. The reticle vanishing randomly during skirmishes doesn't help and I simply couldn't muster the concentration to deal with the camera flippantly moving about during intense battles.

I can't recall in my decades of gaming ever having played a driving game with worse controls, or feeling. Driving a Porsche in this game is harder than driving a big wheeler (which I have done) in real life due to the EXTREMELY HORRIBLE response time.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I prefer a shooter with fluid response times and not having the muzzle flare clowd my vision while I'm trying to snipe somebody from 100 meters. A good example would be the style in the more recent Painkiller, the old Duke Nukem 3D, Doom 2/1, Quake etc. All you had to do was point and aim and not have to squint through a bunch of crap to see the target properly, or even make out the reticle.

While I understand that being able to have the shoulder view is beneficial, I find it extremely awkward, especially when I want to see the full 180 and have to toggle the camera about.

I simply couldn't cope with the controls, but I really did enjoy the atmosphere and the concept of this game.

Anybody else have the same issues, or is this the new model of the shooting genre?

yeh the controls do suck still, & so does the camera, but it seems to have a more

exagerated wobble, just makes me dizzy playing it, the 3rd person view pisses me

off but the zooming & wobbling of the camera hurts my eyes.

Nothing much has changed about the rest of the game...still sucks not worth a sub

This is poorly made game with no content just good graphics, Wish GTA would do an MMO!

The Deathstar destroyed planets...Lucas Arts destroyed Galaxies

i'm not seeing the problems here. i don't really feel the controls are that bad. my crosshairs have never "vanish" and the thrid person is on. by gears or war was always third person. I really don't get what u too are talking about doesn't the mouse always move the camera and crosshairs in ever shooter... tf2, counter strike just to name a few work just like apb except first person instead of third. the cars i guess handle bad if u don't use the e-brake or don't notice that if u turn a little youll turn just the right amount. just like driving ur not gunna be booking it down the road and turn and hold the wheel turned your gunna turn the wheel hit the e brake drift around the turn and then tap w to straight out.

i'm sorry but i'm not getting anything. they arent the best but nothing to really bitch about.

I think that once you actually start driving a car in real life, then you will realize how silly that statement really is.

The problem is that in other shooters you accelerate gradually. In APB you're constantly flooring and you have no control over the acceleration; you're accelerating at a maximum and can only control it by releasing the button, or tapping it, which is really annoying and completely unnecessary.

Maybe if your first shooter was a third person, then it might come naturally to you, but if you've only ever played first person POV shooters, then the controls are awkward.

Switching weapons has a delay, dependent on your latency and often times your reticle will be directly on the opposing player, yet you will be unable to fire due to the fact that your character happens to be facing a different direction for no apparent reason.

I can't remember how many times this has happened: I came behind an opponent, had him in my crosshairs, but was unable to do anything, since my camera had apparently shifted and it was BEHIND my character.

Not to mention that there is an annoying 1-2 second delay, again reliant entirely on latency, between environment interactions e.g. hijacking a vehicle, jumping a fence, etc.

The other thing that is completely annoying is the random nature of the physics engine and the actual presence of obstacles. More often than not it is possible to shoot through a grating, wall, door etc. due to there actually not being anything at all besides an aesthetic object. So to master this game it is entirely necessary to be able to know the flaws in it's engine and exploit them, which has been done to me countless times.

Lastly, do you seriously expect people to believe your profile? Maybe if you knocked a decade or two off of the age, or changed the location to someplace exotic..

Not at all at first driving was real awkward but know its so easy everything else is pretty straight forward  ? i dont see the problem maybe for new players but everyone has a lil bit of problems here and there but you over come them the first couple of days! Also one thing thats a big problem is lag if u lag ur driving goes way out of line aswell as your aiming and walking

Never experienced the reticle vanishing during skirmishes unless you mean the reticle going into extremely large mode when you hold the mouse button to autofire?

Agreed.  Its bad but I found the controls to be okay on my pickup truck.  I actually gotten used to everything with it now.  You should be thankful that they didnt go full on racing simulator style where you spin out of control and get under turns and overturns extremely easilly.

I sniped a lot in APB and I dont understand what you mean o.o  The sniper I use takes about 2 or so seconds before you can fire again so I guess I dont notice it...

Im not sure if you tried third person mode in UT3 and UT2004 but the third person mode there moves the reticle to just above your head and that if you shoot downwards, you cant see what youre shooting at.  The over the shoulder camera is normal for third person shooters so you can actually see what youre shootin. o.o  You havent tried RE4 or RE5 have you? xD

I simply couldn't cope with the controls, but I really did enjoy the atmosphere and the concept of this game.

I think the main problem here is that youre not used to third person shooters and not used to the driving style.  I was led to believe that APB driving is like GTA 4 which Ive never tried so...I cant comment on that one o.o but I do agree that the driving needs work but it is fairly bearable.

This type of third person shooting has been used in RE 4 and RE5 so its really not a new model.  o.o

I actually like the controls a lot.   OTOH I use a Nostromo Gamepad and a 9-button mouse so my opinion is likely biased on having the ability to configure them in a way that's a lot more intuitive than a standard keyboard + 2 button mouse...

Also, if you could drive in SimCity4, then you're automatically an AWESOME driver in this game :D

Some of the cars don't handle to bad and are even fun to drive.  The problem arises when lag or latency is introduced into the equation, especially if it is not constant which makes compensating extremely difficult.  Sometimes, the latency is so bad I am crashing into buildings, cars, etc that I ordinarily would not.  It's frustrating.

As far as the 'shooter' experience, yeah I feel you OP, I really do.  Again there is the lag or latency with shooting, aiming, switching weapons.  My character moves so slow and clunky.  I too miss the old days when shooters did not try to be so realistic and in the process ruin the fun factor.

I miss the old fps days with Quake style games that had very fluid, responsive controls.  These new shooter games suck azz, atleast in my opinion.  They are slow, poorly responsive, unnecessarily muddled team based games, with realistic settings and weapons.  Who the fuck cares about realism?  I play games to escape reality!
