Revolution through Destruction!

For starters, it's not a FPS. It's a TPS (Third Person) as the devs announce on several occasions.

Now that we have that out of the way, the devs have also stated that there will be "10's of thousands" of players per server as is usual. While I haven't read deeply into this because it is really of little consequence when it comes to developing a MMO, I am speculating that the "100" players they are referring to has to do with an area of the city, thus the enforcers will have their precincts and the criminals will have their territories.

Personally, along with my guild (or gang/special unit depending on which route we take), I am looking forward to taking over one of these servers one sector at a time until we have full control of the entire city. Then you all will have no choice but to mow my lawn, take out my garbage, and occasionally... occasionally, you'll have to fling poo at my neighbors!

No... no, not your's. Mine. Muahahahahaaa...

I AM SO DEVIOUS!!!

Not if they only wanted around 500 dedicated players! Ooooooh, yeah, I gotcha good

Each world has 100’s of these district maps so although a single action district has a 100 player limit, there is no limit to the number of other players you will encounter.

Exact quote from the site.

Bumping the quote since some people seemed to miss it.

I kind of like the 100 player limit, though I think it could be raised to 150 (Dunbar's number).
But the less there is, the easier it  will be for my old puter. :)

When APB will be release, i hope they will one day do an expansion to bring more players in 1 server like 200, 300, 500 and even more teal we get a super ultra huge city with 1000 players. That would be great.

Played DF trial for 2 weeks none stop. Check out my pvp video during trial.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJnU_JEqKRM
So you can stop posting that i played DF only for 2 weeks over and over again.

I wish they made it world pvp like WoW. Seriously. 100 pple per shard. You call that an MMO? Its just GTA on steroids. I'm outta this shithole. If fallen earth did it, same FPS style fighting, so can APB.

Fallen earth is not 3ps.....you dont get instant reaction on trigger..it just standard turn base mmorpg with guns instead of bows.

Reality Check - MAG does 256 in real time and as far as technolgy goes thats the limit. AND they force big maps so there is limited number of  players at one place to limit lag poss.

Whoever says its not possible, welcome to the 21st century.

Look at Planetside, Vendetta Online, Jumpgate Evolution, Black Prophecy

And fallen earth is a MMOFPS.

if CoD or BBC2 quake or doom is - FPS than Fallen Earth is not

maybe FP-RPG

sadly i have no exp with Vendetta Online, Jumpgate Evolution, Black Prophecy so i cannot comment

planetside has official limit 400 per world and is hardly consider lag free even in smaller battles

It's not  exactly genius more necessity. If you want grpahics mroe akin to single palyer games and heaps of player customisation and especially player customised items/clothes then you absolutely need to limit how many people are possible in a "zone" just so people's internet connections don't explode with the mass amount of information having to be transmitted to and from servers and clients.

APB's long load times when transferring between zones has most to do with the customisation and in particular custom pieces....the server has to inventory every custom piece in the zone so far and then send it  to your computer so it can be drawn there. Now if there were thousands of peopel in a "zone" APB's load times would be in the hours.

Also the more twitch based action orientated  your game is in conjunction with the more complex the graphics is another reason to limit numbers of players per zone.MMOPRG's slower paced and tactical combat made it much easier on the information needed to be sent to and from server/clients per player. But action games require much more,so again it neccesitates limiting the players to prevent massive lag.

Well this isn't a FPS either then is it? Fallen earth is a shooter. ITs a mmoTps maybe (THIRD person shooter). Whats the difference? Its same load on server, twitch based gameplay.

It wouldn't be an mmog if it was 100 people per server...

My point exactly. It is GTA on steroids. Its a great concept really, with a lot of RPG elements like progression and so on. But it is not an MMO rpg. Remove the MMO part.

To the op, the zones in apb are instanced, that simply means the first 100 folks go in instance A then instance B is created  and filled and so on, if you log out and back in you are likely to find yourself in a completely different instance, you do not share the game world with the same 100 folks every time you login, although you can change instances to mission with guildies. And trust me when I say 100 is more than enough for apb's two action zones, they feel cramped enough already and can still suffer lag with the low cap, doubling the number would be bloody stupid, Just wait until you see what the social zone is like with 200 folks onboard, good luck getting to the terminals.

MAte did ya play in Fallen Earth?

Fallen Earth is not shooter it has standard turn base mechanics for firearms.

MAG goes with 256 per side and thats enough for them to call it massive.

How many ppl group quest in wow at once? Raids are  parties of up to 40 people and no one question MMO of wow.

Massive because you have 1000 ppl to potential interact with

You don't want more then 100 people on 1 district trust me,  if you want districts with alot more then you'll be frustrated that you can't reach your mission objective because there are so many people driving around, that you'll most likely keep crashing into other cars.

Hey thats not the point they could make bigger city.

The point is that whole Massive in MO is just a illusion , you usually interact with small number of ppl at time

The whole 100 ? why not 1000 its just obsession with big numbers

thats why multi core processors are sold with multiplied mghz.

now if only the combat zones allowed 50vs50(100vs100 would just be awesome) free for all instead of this 20vs20 max poop..

it would be much more fun and chaotic..

Oh, and I can deal with the 1 hit box on players, but on cars? come on....cant even shoot through the freakin windows for crying out loud.

Most folks do not check the original posting date for topics at the top of a forum, I will guarantee you dont. As for reopening topics, frankly that has f'all to do with you, this is a public forum with a working search function, and sometimes people come across an older thread that they feel may still warrant discussion, it happens, it is no great deal, such is life on the internets.

I dont like it as well ... but that kind off make cars usefull.....

Dev said that they wont paintball ... iam sceptical but will go for pre order

on another hand you get all social interaction of standard mmorpg with whole more engaging fight  mechanics

and its pure PvP no  npc ai , no grinding and stuff. and its mission based not deathmatch so co op is king...

If the APB servers were like mmo servers than 100 player per one of those is a great idea. What I mean by an mmo server is of course a server to which your character is bound not servers in the FPS shooter sense. If your character was bound to a server there would be great potential for a community. There would be potential for the people to actually get to know eachother and their enemies. In my dreams this game will give me the feeling I felt when joining my favourite CSS server on which I played for 3 years and knew everyone. There were friends there, mutual enemies it was the closest I have probobly ever come to feel a sense of community in a game.

Played fallen earth. You aim and shoot. Not WoW style press one button.
