I really hope this is more of a FPS than and MMO because for one thing, FPS are usually free to play and there is no "gear" to buy. If it is going to be PvP based, I highly doubt I would be willing to pay a monthly fee, no matter how much actual RPG elements there are. Second of all I really dislike treadmill gear grinding. I don't know what the robbers are going to be stealing money and stuff for if there isn't armor upgrades and potions and stuff, so my hope is that it will be more PvP for the sake of PvP rather than item rewards which, again, has generally been buy the box and play; meaning no monthly subscription. We shall see. Also, I'm less than thrilled EA is in the picture at all. They are a good company, but they tend to rush games out from what I hear, and for multiplayer, it really has to perfect nowadays for anyone to give a crap in my opinion. Warhammer Online being an example. |

if you read up on this. 1. its not a FPS and not a MMORPG at the same time. It's a hybrid, they said this. 2. subscription/micro-transaction hybrid payment system, they're thinking about it. If they are planning on implementing a micro-transaction system. they specifically said that the items sold will not give any player an advantage over others. 3. won't have lvling system, depends on ur skill. 4. EA will not have property rights on this game. they're purely marketing and distribution. |

I certainly hope there is a subscription for the game. Subscriptions based games tend to have better staffing, support, etc. Subscription based also gives the advantage of limiting a certain class of player who do their best to ruin gameplay for everyone. F2P only encourages multiple shell accounts so you can never eliminate griefers. You are playing a video game. By definition that means you are not hardcore. |

Oddly, I've found the opposite to be true. Many free games (especially FPS multiplayer games) offer constant patches and content updates. What they don't update themselves, they allow the modding community to fill in. Whereas big subscription-based game companys already have your money, so they feel they can pretty much do whatever the hell they want. MMO gamers have come to expect to have to pay to play the games they enjoy. Once upon a time this was fine because there were not very many MMOs out there. Now that they are a dime a dozen, they really are not offering any real service, other than server rental, that other game genres don't already provide for free. |
