  • Bridge Access Granted!

    Fans everyone cried out in disappointment when Cryptic Studios crushed their dreams of hanging out on their ships bridge with other crew members when it was revealed that the feature wasn't going to make it into the game (at least not for launch). Today, however, things have changed! Cryptic Studios has revealed that bridge gameplay will indeed make it into the game for launch, and will serve as a social hub where players can socialize with others.

  • Launching This February!

    Slobodan Simic of Fudzilla has picked up on the fact that Amazon.com has attached a release date to their listing of Star Trek Online, which is being listed as releasing on February 2nd, 2010. Generally, it's best to take retailer release dates with a grain of salt, but they are often pretty accurate when listed only a few months before a game's launch. As it has been previously reported, Cryptic Studios and Atari have already confirmed the game will launch in early Q1 2010.

    The lore video series continues over at GameSpot with the release of The Future Past: Part 2. The video starts out catching up viewers with the events highlighted in part one, and then fills in the rest of the gaps that lead to the war between the Federation and the Klingon in the year 2409, which is when Star Trek Online will take place.

  • Cinematic War Trailer

    A new Star Trek Online trailer is available for viewing over at GameVideos. The new trailer opens with the history of the establishment of the Federation in order to pursue to the peaceful discovery of new species and worlds, but quickly reminds us that "even those who strive for peace, must be prepared for war," and switches to some high-octane combat footage involving tons of ships, and even Borg cubes, but more importantly, a good dosage of ground combat.

    Atari and Cryptic Studios have announced today that the Closed Beta test for Star Trek Online has commenced!     It seems like progression is certainly a hot topic in the Star Trek Online community, and as a result Cryptic Studios will be hosting a devchat on the subject today at 11:30AM PST. The subject has been covered in previous editions of the Ask Cryptic series, but the developers would like to give members of the community a chance to ask questions of the developers in real time in order to clear up any remaining confusion.

  • Release Window Set for Q1 2010

    Cryptic Studios has confirmed to Videogamer.com that Star Trek Online is still set for "Stardate 2010" but in a window much earlier than many of us expected. Indeed, Star Trek Online will launch sometime in Q1 2010, and Cryptic Studios also confirms that beta is just around the corner.

    A new video for Star Trek Online has surfaced over at GameSpot. The video, which is part one in what we're guessing will be a series of videos, details the timeline of Star Trek Online, which takes place 30 years after the Star Trek film "Nemesis." Cryptic Studios was pretty smart with the video, too, as the developers speaking about the game's lore are set against a backdrop of explosive gameplay footage, so for those of us who don't care what a Ferengi is,

  • DevChat Reveals Details on Progression

    The transcript for the October 8th DevChat is now available for viewing. Apparently, a bug or something has been going around the Cryptic Studios offices and the developers weren't on hand for the chat but Cryptic Studios' Community Lead Awen and Community Representative Rekhan were there to field questions on ship tiers and player progression.
