STO is letting the fans design the Enterprise F!

http://startrekonline.com/enterprise/

What else could they do? If they designed it themselves they would be crucified, no matter what they came up with. This way the fans have only themselves to blame :p

Which is your favorite? Which do you expect to win?

Lol

Yeah, there are some pieces of crap, but hey- professional artist or 8 year old 'special needs' child, who wouldn't want a chance to design the single most iconic space ship in science fiction history?

There is some good stuff too. You just have to pick though them.

lol given that half of the images in the gallery appear to be stolen works from popular Star Trek websites it doesn't bode well for the fact that we're likely to get a peice of shit as a flagship.

I dare someone to submit a Star Destroyer LOL.

The other drawings look as though they were drawn by 5 year olds- the ones that is that don't look like they were stolen from those websites I meantioned.

For some reason I feel we're going to end up with a really bad looking version of a Soverign class, I just know it.

The few legit ones that are in there look alright as concept art goes and will likely win.

Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son.
Oh, I see it's too late to help you.

Meh , most of them were pretty lame in my opinion . Here's why . They took a TOS design or a Galaxy and tired to advance those designs . While retro is the currently the fad in cars , it really doesn't work for ST ship design. The design needed to progress from the Sov design and modify and improve it torward the really futuristic  ( I think it's the J ) model. The ones you favor are mainly retro, which obviously isn't the evoltionary path . It's something the designers need to keep in mind , when they were doing this and neglected.

I was going to say something not very nice, but I will say good luck to those working on designs.

The J is 5 generations away, so I think it's influence would be minimal. Many entries, maybe the majority, combined the soverign with the J. Too predictable. No one who had looked at the evolution up to the D would have believed the E to be her succesor, but the Soverign stands on her own.

Simmilarly, the B shares almost nothing in common with either the A or C.

Suggestion of liniage can be a plus, but I don't think it's mandatory as long as the ship "feels" like an Enterprise.

This one is probably the closest to what you'd recommend:

-and of my favorites, it's the least.

On the other hand, you have different fingers.

Only Roddenberry can design the next Enterprise.

No pleasure, no rapture, no exquisite sin greater... than central air.

Roddenberry never designed an Enterprise, though he did select the initial shape combinations (from a pool of hundreds) and then he flipped it upside down.

He also established a series of rules for ship design, such as nacelles must have 50% line of sight with one another (the Defiant breaks this rule.)

I have nothing against Star Trek, but all their ships look almost exactly the same..

I'd much rather see something crazy looking like this:

The mods have stated that no, it is not an April fools joke. Poor planning on someone's part though.
