After a year I caved in and got this game, I was scared away from this game because of what people where saying and I'm sure it was for a good reason when It first came.

What ever the reason I have found this game fun and very interesting, I just love being a part of the Trek universe , like today I took my first trip to DS9 hung out in Quarks played some Dabo lol, anyways I think this game can have allot of potential so long as they keep adding the Trek content to make players like myself feel apart of the universe. It's not perfect but what MMO is?

I think people where just to hard on this game at first because It wasn't there vision of how a Trek MMO should be.

Bottom line, I will no longer listen to people on the forums because It came to my understanding the ones that bash the games really don't like any MMO or they would be playing a MMO instead of posting lol.

I feel that they will never be happy no matter what MMO comes out, they will fine the negative.

If you love Star trek you will like this game, If not then you where never a trekkie.

Also I canceled my WoW account after 6 years because I found a replacement : )

What is DS9 like?  Is it big, or just kind of a "stop through and check out" kind of place?

The reason I ask, is I've been a lifelong fan of the ST franchise but I ADORED DS9.  If I were to play this game, I would want to be able to RP and have set up shop there (ie, base my character there).  So what are your impressions of DS9 in game?

Speaking of which, is there any RPing going on in STO? 

Are trying to get flamed or what? There are a lot of reasons why peoplew hate this game. For me, it was the fact that they billed the game as a FvF mmorpg, but really, there was only ONE faction. The Klingons...Well, they kinda forgot about them. That, and the instanced PvP..Stupid.

But hey, whatever floats yer boat:)

DS9 is pretty sweet, It sent chills down my back when Major Kira asked me to prepare for docking, I then ran around a bit and then I entered a Bar and It was Quarks, that moment gave me some great flash backs on the show, so I played some Dabo and /lol to myself.

But Ds9 is one of the Stations you can chill on, It has a AH,trade goods, like any other MMO city or town but with that Star trek feeling.

I enjoy It, thats all that matters, I just wanted to share my thoughts on the game because I was like many, never gave It a try because of the negative feed back on that game , I hate Instance games, but I love star trek and that alone and that fact that I can play out my childhood fantasy really remindeds me of why I even started playing MMO's to begin with, you know before the Epeening, playing a game to engage yourself into your fantasy of choose and for me thats Trek.

Is it populated like any other MMO city or town, or is it you and couple of other people and a bunch of NPCs?

DS9 is main favorite place in game.

Enjoing  siting in Quarks Bar,listening many rp-er's storyes.

brw I love this game.STO is not great as Eve but STO is not bad game.

hes there for the "star trek" environment and role playing, not looking at the game as an mmo. i would suggest that most people that were dissappointed with the game wanted an MMO set in the star trek universe. what cryptic produced was a half finished poorly made (that which was in game) game with a star trek skin. if all your looking for is a star trek environment and quality/game play do not matter AT ALL, then the op is right, this is the game for you. in fact if  that is all  that you want is to have an avatar to dress up in a trek costume and RP a lts is possibly a good idea. that was not what i was looking for, i wanted an enjoyable/fun game.

if you want an MMO that you can play for more than a few weeks and enjoy, look elsewhere. if its always been your dream to dress up in a trek costume and role play a character in one of the ST shows or movies,  STO is a viable option as long as you dont expect a good game to go with it.

Given that you could get it on Amazon for $2.50 its not much of leap of faith.

A lot of people didn't like the game while a handful do ,including you. I say this in no way to invalidate your own enjoyment, but when you say that you won't listen to others opinions because they bash all MMOs that's being overly myopic. I say this for two reasons: first, that many of the reasons that people didn't like the game were consistant and not the reasons that you say you enjoy the game. Opinions on this site should ultimatly help people to make decisions about game purchases, buit that doens't mean that you can just take every opinion at face value. You find the complaints that are consistant and then compare those complaints to your values.

Secondly,  It's not fair to accuse everyone who didn't like the game as haters because you failed to filter the information correctly. I mean SWG failed to keep most of the player base that played the game, so there must of been some validity to the problems that many of the nay sayers had said the game had. I don't mean to isolate you I'm just trying to add a little temperance to your statment.

Hey, I played EVE for years, many folks think EVE totally blows, doesn't matter, I still had a great time playing it.

EVE has many shortcomings from some peoples viewpoints (lack of in flight combat mechancis, avatars etc) but it didn't matter to me, I still played it.

Same thing here, OP is having fun, even if it ends up only for a short period of time, and that's all that matters, play MMO's for the fun they offer, not for the features they lack.

Like someone else said, the game is missing many of the features that I look for in an MMORPG so I won't give it a go, playing in the Star Trek universe isn't enough of a lure for more, but I can understand why it might be for others.

raistalin69 , bverji , Kyleran what all three of you have stated is absolutely correct and well stated . The only thing I was attempting to ascertain was , how much of this sentiment was that , new car feel/rush people get when they have a new toy. That said it is a funny game , but IMO it loses that rush after 45 to 60 days for the average person. I was just curious ?

well, getting 2 months of STO for like $30? and enjoying would still be cheaper then any single player game.. that said, i never played it...

Game is still fun and I visit once and awhile. Still going to play Rift when it comes out, but I visit star trek usually every other month. there is enough addition content and new things to make it fun. As a trek fan I think it's great and obviously still allot do as everytime I log in I always see plenty of people.

It's a good trek game, not (what I wanted to see) the best but in the end it has fun space combat ,descent ground combat and a good story can be found in many of the episodes. So alas overall well worth it for those that like startrek.

I go back to this game now and then to see if it's changed for the better, determine it isn't there yet, and cancel it again. It's not about being a Trekkie, it's about the game being worth playing. And it isn't. Not yet.

I will say that I'm Trekkie enough to have a Star Trek avatar though.

 Agreed , I'lll add that it's pretty questionable how Star Trek it really is based on what Cryptic did. Skins are really not enough once you breakdown the game play.

LOL, I've been a fan of Star Trek since watching the TOS reruns in the early 80s.  Loved TOS, TNG, some of DS9, hated VOY and ENT.

And I will say that STO is utter trash as a Star Trek fan AND as a video game.

I loved Star Trek for decades.  But that doesn't mean I'm a blind fool to jump on any of the franchise's products and proclaim "If you don't like this, you're not a fan."

I'll call a product good if it's good.  But STO definitely isn't.  As a ST fan and as a video gamer.

If you really get down to what the missions are all about and how they're conducted in STO, there is literally no difference between the Federation & Klingons.  In the shows and movies, they are vastly different.  Even when the Federation is at war.

I think built-in missions in this game will only give you a few months of "fun", but they won't give you a real "Star Trek" feeling. The only way to get a real "Star Trek" feeling is to socialize with other players and become part of the community. And this is probably one of the main reasons a lot of STO fans decided to get Lifetime subscriptions sooner or later.

I haven't spent a lot of time in STO yet, but I have met a few people who have been active in STO since it's release and having talked to them, I am starting to see this game for what it is: a great place for Star Trek fans who enjoy socializing in a "Star Trek environment", experience the excitement of space buttles piloting their own vessel, explore new planets and participate in ground missions.

Having followed game progress from the early beginnings, my initial dissapointment has changed into anticipation and I'm looking forward to see what the future might bring. I think the game is already comparable to any other MMOG, all it needs now is a growing, alive and breathing community.
